Beginning June 2 and going through August 25, we will only have one service of worship on Sunday mornings.  Our Sunday morning schedule will be Bible Study at 9:45 and worship service at 11:00.  Our Sunday and Wednesday evening service schedules, both beginning at 6:00 and open to everyone in the church, will remain the same.  There are several reasons we believe this is the best thing for our church to do during the summer months, but the primary reason has to do with the unity and community of our church.  While we do everything we can to maintain our unity and community with outreach and mission opportunities, times of fellowship, Fifth Sunday services, and Sunday and Wednesday evening services, it still happens that people in our first and second services don’t interact and know each other like people in a church should.  God has also blessed us with a number of new members over the past few years, and this will be an opportunity not only to worship with people you haven’t seen in a while, but maybe you haven’t had a chance to meet yet.  We normally have two services for good, biblical reasons.  Offering multiple times to worship on Sunday morning has allowed our church to grow and minister to people we might not otherwise reach.  The summer months are a time when our attendance normally dips a little, however, as our college students go home and many of our people take the time to travel, so this is an opportune time to come together for a few months and then go back to our usual two-service schedule in the fall.  I look forward to worshipping with you all in our combined services this summer, and hope that you will be praying for God to do a mighty work in our church during this time.

God bless, Pastor Gary

The church is invited to the AWANA Picnic on May 5th at 6 pm at the Humphrey Pavilion in Veterans Park. The church will provide the hotdogs, chips and drinks. Please bring a side dish or a dessert and join in the fun!

Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.  Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest." Matthew 9:37-38.Mark your calendar for May 19 at 6:00, when the Praise Notes Children's Choir will present "Hallelujah Harvest" in our evening service.  The kids will be walking us through the Parable of the Sower and the Words of Jesus to show us that we need to be ready to be workers of God's harvest.

5 th Friday Food Delivery for the “Wiley House”

  First Baptist has been contacted

about providing food to the Wiley House on the 5th Fridays throughout the year. This house is for the homeless

single adults in our community. The average number to provide

for is 8-10 people.  It can hold up to 17 people, but that is rare. The residents can check in after 6:00pm, and must leave by 8:00am each day. Other churches that provide food are the Christian Church, Nine Mile Presbyterian Church, and Methodist Church.  This would be a good mission for First Baptist.   Please pray about how you could support this project.  Your support would require help with cooking food, purchasing items, donating money, delivering the food on Fridays.  This could be a project for a Sunday school class, youth group, ladies group, or as individuals looking for some way to serve. The fifth Fridays include: March 29, 2013 – food provided by Murphy WMU ladiesMay 31, 2013August 30, 2013November 29, 2013 Monday through Thursday the men or women go to the soup kitchen. Because that facility is closed on the weekends is the reason for requesting your help with food.

This would be five times in the year 2013. Director Brad Shephard said he would let us know that day how residents might be there but just to plan on 8-10.  He would give us the combination to the building if it is locked. What to take:  Always a hot dish such as a 6 quart crock pot full of spaghetti, soup, chili or something on that order.  They will clean the pot and it can be picked up the next day or on Monday morning. No food is available during

the day on Saturday or Sundays, so bread and sandwich fixings are needed for the residents to fix a sandwich to take with them when they leave at 8:00am. Brad Shephard purchases canned spaghetti, variety of meats, soups, etc. for Saturday and Sunday evening. Food suggestions to provide on 5 th Fridays and Saturday/Sunday sack lunches6 quart crock pot of hot food2 gallons of milkBread, meat and cheese for sandwichesPeanut butter and crackersCereal, Breakfast BarsFruit, Applesauce cupsCookies, small individual bags of chips The approximate cost is between $50.00-70.00 each time.

If you would like to help with this local ministry, there will be a sign up sheet in the foyer.

Church Family, We feel so blessed from day one of my diagnosis! The battle that we are facing we aren’t alone. Knowing God is beside us and our church family is behind us this is a comfort.

God has provided all of our needs. There have been too many blessings to count. I don’t want to leave anyone out if I listed them. I haven’t been able to work full-time due to the cancer and liver disease. I honestly have to say without the church family helping us I’m not sure where we would be. The result a heavy burden lifted from me and I’m able to concentrate on fighting and staying positive through this journey.

When we are faced with the unknown it can be extremely unsettling. Please pray we give our anxieties and fears to God.

“Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you. I will help you.” (Isaiah 41:10)

We appreciate everything!Kim, Kalie & Kassie Bass

Dear Church Family, Thank you for the flowers Ann Ruffel brought me for my birthday. They are beautiful and I really enjoyed our visit. Ann, you brought a ray of sunshine into my home that cloudy day and I thank you. May God bless each one.
