Don't let preparing for fall prevent you from enjoying these last few weeks of summer. Remember, cold rains and gray skies are just a couple months away. In the spirit of squeezing the best out of the end of August, here is a list of five fun foodie things to do in and around Rochester to enjoy the end of the lazy-day season. 1. Bike for Treats - Nothing says summer quite like ice cream. If you're watching your waistline in anticipation of the more sedentary winter days, hop on your bike and earn that treat by heading north on the Paint Creek Trail. Stop and grab an ice cream cone at Paint Creek Cider Mill Café, sit by the river, and soak up the sounds of the cicada. 2. Dine Al Fresco - Head over to Mind, Body & Spirits for an excellent meal and a glass of organic wine on the rooftop patio of this highly acclaimed, certified organic restaurant. 3. Support the Locals - The Rochester Farmer's Market offers far more than just seasonal veggies. Shoppers will find baked goods, gourmet foods, and gourmet coffee. It's hard to beat a fresh scone and pint of raspberries for breakfast. 4. Sip and Shop - Bean and Leaf Café on the corner of Main and University, takes their patrons far beyond the typical mocha latte and iced chai. Grab a cup of your favorite free-trade coffee drink or one of their many interesting teas, tell them it's to-go, and meander down main street with your favorite pal. 5. Pick a Peck of Peaches - Raspberry season is here and if you've never eaten a just picked, sun- warmed raspberry, now is the time to take a trip to Miller's Big Red Apple Orchard, Greenhouse and Cider Mill. Pick a pint, a peck, or whatever strikes your fancy; but don't miss the satisfaction of harvesting your own summer produce.
