The colors of the Dominican Republic flag are blue, red and white. These colors are said to have been adopted from the Haitian flag, which once controlled the country. The colors are identified to stand for liberty, the blood of their heroes and salvation, respectively. Also, it is believed that the founding father of the Trinitarians - Juan Pablo Duarte - was the one who came up with this color scheme by altering the position of the red and blue, and adding a large white cross in symbolism of their people's faith. The Dominican Republic national flag also features an emblem in the middle. At the center of this emblem are a cross and a bible. This design could as well be due to the fact that more than 90 percent of Dominican population is composed of Roman Catholics. Aside from this unique design, only the Dominican Republic flag features four other flags within it. These four are miniature Dominican Republic flags attached on spears, each surrounding the bible and the cross. However, these four mini-replicas do not bear the emblem at the center. If that would have been the case, then there will be at least eight other visible smaller miniature flags within two of the four major miniature replicas. It is also believed that besides the national flag, the Dominican Republic also has a civil flag. This civil flag is the same as the miniature flags, which does not contain an emblem at the center. Flags and banners, including school banners, have been used for all kinds of different purposes, the main ones being identification and signaling. Flags of all sizes are flown from flagpoles of all kinds, including tall steel commercial flagpoles. Of all the different country flags in existence, the Libyan flag sure is considered one of the "special ones." Unlike any other flag in the world, the Libya flag is the only flag that displays one color only, without any other detail such as a coat of arms. This unique flag is produced from high quality materials with commonly used proportion of 1:2. At one time, Libya, Egypt and Syria formed the Federation of Arab Republics. Interestingly, all three countries flew exactly the same flag from aluminum flagpoles, which they hoped would become the basis for the banner of a unified Arab state. This had stripes or bands of the same colors and a coat of arms in the middle. In 1977, the late President of Egypt traveled to Israel to make plans for a peace treaty. Qaddafi felt that the Arab cause had been betrayed and angrily rejected the flag previously in use by the three respective countries.

Libya is considered the 4th largest country in terms of area in Africa, and the seventeenth

largest in the world today. Its capitol counts roughly 1.8 million people, about 25% of the

country population. Even though it has been independent since '51, the country has been

under rule of Muammar al-Gaddafi, who came to power through military means.

Back in '77, the country's official name was changed. Today it's officially referred to as the

"Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya," a real mouthful. 49 Signs Of A Cheating
