Aeropro A220/A240/EuroFox Rudder Pedal Centering and Rudder Trim Systems Aeropro airplanes are excellent cross country aircraft with great comfort and stability. However, the rudder does need constant attention to keep the slip ball centered. Having covered well over 10,000 miles cross country in Aeropro A220, A240 and EuroFox airplanes, including several trips of over 1000 miles, I felt the need to address this issue. I came up with an effective device to keep the ball centered without pilot input at a chosen airspeed and fitted it to my A220 tailwheel aircraft. Once Aeropro owners found out about my system, I was asked to produce first one, then many other Rudder Pedal Centering Kits. All owners with the system fitted so far have been very pleased with the results. Next came my development of the Rudder Trim Kit to enable stable feet off pedals flight at varying speeds with the slip ball centered. Description of the Rudder Pedal Centering Kit. The centering kit is designed to hold the rudder pedals in a preset position during cruise flight. This is achieved by a T-bar pulling two centering arms to a preset position. The position of the two arms is adjusted so that at a given cruise speed, with feet off the rudder pedals, the slip ball remains in the center. Once the arms are set, the ball will only center when the aircraft is stable at the given airspeed, engine speed and loading. Changes to any of the parameters will result in the ball being out. As with all yaw stable aircraft in the climb or descent, rudder will need to be applied to achieve a centered ball. The following photo shows the fitted centering kit in an A220 (taildragger) Aerotrek. Description of the Rudder Trim Kit. The Rudder Trim Kit is an accessory to the Rudder Centering Kit, it is not effective unless the aircraft is also equipped with rudder centering. The Rudder Trim allows the pilot to trim for yaw and to center the slip ball in flight at stable speeds between 80 and 120mph. This is achieved by effectively shortening and relaxing the left rudder cable thereby applying rudder away from the preset position. Rudder trim is achieved by turning a trim wheel mounted on the panel.
