A pain in the neck?

Most of us suffer from neck and shouldertension from time to time. As anOsteopath and Pilates teacher, I help alot of patients with neck pain, shoulder

tension and headaches.

Consider how much of your day is spent with yourarms out in front of you? These can increase tension inthe shoulder muscles. This in itself can be painful, butcan also irritate joints and nerves in the neck and caneven cause headaches.

A simple stretch which could help ease tension, “Patthe smelly dog!”- you laugh, but patients remember it!

Reach down with one arm to the side of you, pushingthe heal of your hand downwards, as if pattinga large dog on the head. Now gently lean your

head away to the other side, taking your ear to theopposite shoulder. Hold for the stretch for 10 secondsand repeat the other side.

If you are in pain seek professional advice. Most neckand shoulder issues can be treated successfully andwill usually get better quicker when they are dealt withpromptly.

Ever since the late 18th century when FransAnton Mesmer brought the use of hypnosis(mesmerism) as a therapeutic tool to theattention of the public, therapists have been

using it as a powerful tool to help people.

The use of Hypnotherapy goes back much furtherthan Mesmer. If Mesmer were to be called the Fatherof Hypnosis, then the great, great --- grandfather ofHypnosis could arguably be the ancient Egyptianpriest, Imhotep. (I-em-hotep, he comes in peace)

Today we use hypnotherapy to help peoplewith a vast range of problems.

The 18th Century origins of Hypnotherapythen interpreted the person’sdreams to gain knowledgeabout the illnesses and finda cure.

Today we use hypnotherapyto help people with a vastrange of problems andthanks to the Complimentary

is used for cooking certain types of Indian foodssuch as Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Tikka and breadvarieties like Tandoori Roti and Naan. The heat for aTandoor was traditionally generated by a charcoalfire or wood fire, burning within the Tandoor itself, thus exposing the food to live-fire. Temperatures ina Tandoor can approach 480 °C (900 °F), and itis common for Tandoor ovens to remain lit for longperiods to maintain the high cooking temperature itis a form of oven between a makeshift earth ovenand the horizontal-plan masonry oven. Modern dayTandoors use electricity or gas insteadof charcoal.

At Chilli and Pepper the emphasis isalways on the quality of food and is

Chill & Pepper SpecialitiesBalti - Meaning and origins

Balti is more a style of cookingthan one particular curry. Theword Balti can be translated as"bucket" (i.e. a cooking pan) andsome say the style of cooking isindigenous to an area of northernPakistan known as Baltistan.

A Balti pan is basically a Karahiwhich has the shape of a Chinesewok but with 2 small round handleson either side of the pan instead ofone long handle. In specialist "BaltiHouses" the Balti is a meal in itselfwhich contains both meat and vegetablesand is eaten straight from the Karahiusing curled up pieces of Naan bread. In standard Indian restaurants the Balti ismore of a stir-fried curry containing plentyof fried green peppers and fresh coriander.

Tandoori - Meaning and origins

The word Tandoori is the adjective meaning“pertaining to the Tandoor” and is used todescribe a dish cooked in a Tandoor. The Tandoor

It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2ClearWindows. The company which specialisesin repairing windows which are steamedup, broken or damaged by replacing the

panes – not the frames has grown rapidly ashomeowners take advantage of their services.

Managing Director Trevor Skidmore feels that it’s allabout service. ‘Our product is simple. If your doubleglazing is misted up we can replace the glass at afraction of the cost of a new window, in any typeof frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’snot just about saving people money, although thatobviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggledsince last year and I honestly feel that during the goodtimes a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer careas much as they should have done. We make sure weturn up when we say we will, do the job the customerrequires and leave their house as clean as a whistle.I often get comments back from customers on howthey really didn’t expect that sort of service which,

If you work outside you'll know about taking carein the sun; sunburn, sunstroke, even skin cancerare all potential risks (and, with our usual weather, perhaps rust as well). So using sun lotions and sun

block is becoming more of a health necessity ratherthan a holiday accessory.

What you may not be aware of though is that, as ahealth protection, you have a good reason to claim

the cost of your sun creamagainst tax. With sun creamcosting around £10 a time

that means tax relief ofat least £2 per bottle/tube (up to £4 for ahigher rate taxpayer).

You may not be aware that, as a healthprotection, you have a good reason to

claim the cost of your sun cream against tax

Tax tips - The Taxman will help protect you…If you're self employed then your accountant willprobably already told you about claiming, but if youare employed you will just need to keep receipts andclaim the total on your tax return.

Make it less taxing…If any part of your travelsare business related (doingbusiness banking when you'reout shopping etc.,) make sure to claim the full travelcosts (the mileage, parking etc.,) even if you travel ona bicycle you can still claim 20p per mile (up to 45pper mile in a car). It may not seem worth the bother, but even a couple of trips per month can add up toenough from the taxman to pay for a meal out onceor twice a year… the taxman's always taking, so gethim to contribute something back for once!.Contact Linles Accountants on 07593 612 646and ask for Les RobinsonEmail: [email protected]

Many pets can have lots of fleas and suffersurprisingly little irritation but others willhave an allergic reaction to this saliva.

It's flea season again,as many of our patientsare currently telling ushow itchy they are.

Fleas are small reddishbrown insects. The adultslive on your pet and whenthey bite they are actually drinking blood. The eggsand larvae live in the environment. Did you knowthat for every flea you see on your pet there willbe hundreds of young fleas in the carpets and petsbedding waiting to jump onto you or your pet?

When the flea bites its saliva contains chemicals thatstop the blood clotting to allow them to suckthe blood. Many pets can have lots of fleas and

suffer surprisingly little irritation but others will havean allergic reaction to this saliva. These poor animalswill be severely troubled by as few as one or twofleas, and will lick and scratch their skin makingit red and wearing the fur away. This irritationcan continue even after the fleas have gone.

In addition to biting humans and irritating your petsskin, fleas also carry tapeworm eggs so if your pethas fleas he or she will likely also have tapeworms.

The secret therefore for appropriate flea controlis- Treat your pet for both fleas AND tapewormsand treat the environment as well with anagent that kills all the eggs and larvae.

We hope you have aflea free summer!

What are these Hybrid Cars? Hybridcars are part battery-electric and partconventional cars. The underlyingprinciple of all hybrid vehicles is the

use of a temporary energy storage device (usuallya battery), which enables the mainengine to be operated at close to itsmaximum efficiency. Two types of hybrid drive have beendeveloped. 'Series hybrids' use acombustion engine to generateelectricity, which powers an electric motor so providingmotive power. In 'parallel hybrids', the wheels can beeither directly powered by the engine or from a battery-powered electric drive-train. In both types, when theengine loading is low, the excess energy is stored forlater use. When more energy is required, the mainengine and the energy storage device work together todeliver the required power. In this way, hybrids provideimproved fuel economy and reduced emissions.

Are hybrid cars betterfor the environment?

Most hybrids operate in electric mode at low speeds, which makes them ideal for urban driving. Batterystorage enables the use of regenerative braking whichtops up the battery during braking, further reducingoverall fuel consumptionby around 20%.Performance ofhybrids is similarto that of aconventional carand acceleration isbroadly comparable or evenslightly improved.

From the outside, most hybrids look little different fromother new conventional models. At low speeds, youmay also be aware of the lack of engine noise (whilein electric-only mode). All hybrid cars currently on theUK market use conventional petrol and an advantageof petrol- (and diesel-) fuelled hybrid cars is that theyrequire no change in fuel and so use the existing UKfuelling infrastructure.

After Brands Hatch the races came thickand fast in the Toyota sponsored MR2Championship. Briar Hill Engineeringtransplanted the engine and gearbox for

freshly rebuilt units and Barnett Motorsport headed toNorfolk for rounds 3 and 4.

Barnett Motorsport update the lottery of the races car 36 left standing 10th inthe Championship.

Donington was a very hot affair and round 7 was adouble distance double points race. The car workedbeautifully and Rob drove exceptionally to recordanother top 6 finish in class even after two red flags. He now stands 7th in the Championship out of 56in class.

Next we go into the summer break with rounds 8 and9 held somewhat closer to home at Silverstone on the28th August if you’d like to get out and support Rob athis home track. This leaves time to make some tweaksto the car and carry out general maintenance.

Snetterton was dry and very windswept and the carstarted to show the promise expected. Even with aslipping clutch Rob piloted the car home to a seasonbest 6th place finish. Mallory Park was up next forrounds 5 and 6 and with the gearbox and clutchsorted the team were full of hope. It turned out that aboat would have been a better option but despite
