It is a phrase we have each heard a hundred times. But how many of us are actually doing it? The life of a grandparent raising grandchildren feels fast-paced and complicated. Between school, work, appointments, and extracurricular activities, quiet moments seem rare. T he truth, however, is that life will always be complicated. Rather than wait for life to get easier, teach yourself to approach life with a positive outlook. Begin each day with realistic expectations, and end each day reminding yourself of what went well. Duet invites you to aend our monthly grandparent support groups throughout the Valley. Gather with fellow grandparents to share resources and brainstorm solutions to the many challenges of raising grandchildren. You are not alone in this. L et the small moments with your grandchildren become lasting memories. These moments do not need to be big and expensive. They can actually include simple activities like watching movies together at home, walking around your neighborhood, and cooking a meal together. Group Activities for FamiliesGrandfamily outings are offered to grandparents and the children they are raising. Other family members are welcome to attend outings at the full rate and when availability allows. An RSVP is needed for all grandfamily outings and special events.

L ocated in downtown Phoenix, Arizona Science Center is a hub

for science and discovery. Come face-to-face with the largest collection of mummies ever assembled. The Mummies of the World: The Exhibition features 40 real human and animal mummies and 85 rare artifacts. I t’s that time again. Join us at our quarterly movie night featuring

Captain Marvel. Come for a fun-packed, free evening. Bring your family, friends, lawn chairs, and blankets. We’ll provide the rest – pizza, popcorn, snacks, and drinks.

Movie Night: Captain Marvel

J oin us for an evening of energetic fun. At KTR, their goal is simple – to help

kids be kids. The indoor action sports playground serves kids of all ages and abilities, giving them the freedom to explore their passions. Grandfamilies will meet promptly at 5:30 p.m. to check in before our 6 p.m. start time. Grandkids and any kids at heart will enjoy a multitude of activities including tumbling, trampoline, cheerleading, parkour, dodgeball, skateboarding, scootering, and more.

C ome and experience our one-hour virtual tour and learn more about

the impact Duet has on the lives of the people we serve. Our Discover Duet tours are held on a Friday of each month at noon and we offer a light lunch. Choose a date that works for you, bring a friend, and discover more about Duet.

It’s Summer Time and We Have Funds to Burn!

A re you enrolling your grandchild in an extracurricular activity, or sending them to a summer program? We understand that finances may not always allow you to do these activities that benefit both grandparents and grandchildren. We help them

attend these programs and offer you some time for yourself through our respite care service, which may pay for part or all of the registration fees. We have extra funding, so grab this benefit today. Contact Patricia at (602) 274-5022, ext. 120, for an appointment to see if you qualify.

If you are interested in respite assistance, be prepared to: • Show legal custody of grandchildren such as

guardianship, non-parent custody, etc.• Answer questions about your unique

situation (Takes 30-minutes)• Give the name of the agency that will provide

services; include the provider’s full address, phone number, and the name of a contact person

• Give the start-and-end dates of the program and class frequency. (i.e. every Monday and Wednesday)

• If approved, it takes 10 business days to process the request
