Ideal holiday gifts for car enthusiasts

As the holiday season draws near, it’s time to plan your gifts list to maximize your budget and please your recipients. In choosing the right gifts, use the recipient’s interests as reference. Ask yourself what does he like to do? What are his hobbies? Is he into cars and gadgets? If he spends most of his time taking care of his ride, then the list below will help you find the perfect gift for him:

DVD player for the car- This item

provides entertainment on long road trips, especially for a family with kids. The screen can be mounted on the back of the front seat headrests, the center of the dash, or overhead. The latter screen unfolds with the touch of a button.

Car Navigation System/ GPS- If

you have a friend or a relative who has difficulty locating destinations, this is the right gift for him. Just key in the destination and the GPS will guide the driver on where to turn, pass or exit. The latest models in the local market are slim design, touch screen and come with multimedia functions.

Steering wheel lock- This popular

inexpensive device deters car theft by locking the steering wheel and making it impossible to turn. Other models also restrict pedal movement.

Portable digital tire pressure

gauge - This device is an ideal gift for the time-conscious individual who often drives off without checking his car’s tire pressure. The device checks the tire pressure in an instant and displays the result on a screen. It also enables the user to inflate the tires accurately.

A NEW AAP CBA IS SIGNED

Officers of the AAP board of directors and AAP union officers signed the Contract Bargaining Agreement (CBA) last October 21, 2010 in the AAP Board Room. Present at the signing were (left to right, front) national president of Fuel-Gas Atty. Jesus Diamonon, AAP president Augusto Lagman, union president Raymond Mendoza and AAP treasurer, Jacinto Mantaring. Behind them are union secretary Judy Bellen, AAP membership services manager Necitas Zornosa, AAP executive assistant Malcolm John Pausanos, HR supervisor Karen Matiga and union vice-president Melvin Pingal. The CBA aims to improve the employer-employee relationship and promote fair labor practices by establishing economic and representation aspects for

employees that are beneficial to both parties.

Motor sport stars met anew for the first leg of the Concept One Race of Champions (ROC) last October 2 and 3 at the Batangas Racing Circuit. Serving as an added attraction to this year’s Philippine Touring Car Championship (PTCC) and the Philippine Production Car Championship (PPCC) Series organized and promoted by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP), the one-of-a-kind event brought together the country’s outstanding race car drivers to compete in a Time Attack race using the Chevrolet Cruze.

Famous drivers like Georges and Louis Ramirez, Mike Potenciano, Pepon Marave, Jojo Silverio. Edgen Dyliacco, Paeng Nodalo and multiple rally champion Mandy Eduque among others relived the excitement of their glory days in motor sport as they raced against time. Actor Ryan Agoncillo, a race car drifter and star endorser of the Chevrolet Cruze, also joined the Time Attack event.

After the two timed laps, George Ramirez took the top spot

with a best lap time of 2:13.34. Coming in second place was Ramirez’s long time rival and friend Mike Potenciano who did 2:13.87. Finishing in third place was Pepon Marave who timed in 2.14.68.

According to Sammy Liuson of Concept One Wheels, the principal sponsor of the Race of Champions, the next race series will surely be worth watching since the next two legs will use two other car brands (one for each leg) with turbocharged engines and manual transmissions to make the competition more exciting and challenging.

The second Leg and rounds 5, 6, 7 and 8 of the 2010 PTCC and PPCC Series are set for November 20-21 at the Batangas Racing Circuit together with Leg 2 of the Race of Champions, using the Mini Cooper S. For inquiries, please call Mark Desales of AAP Motorsports Department at 723

0808.
