We were faced with a huge challenge this season. To live up to our billing as current champions of the Clausura (regular) league. As every season, many important players who had played an important part in last season's success had left, especially our wonder goalkeeper, Quique. Our first objective was to build a new squad. Thankfully, we still had a good backbone of players from last year and by the time we played our second pre-season friendly, our hopes of making a good start began to grow. The newcomers showed they were as good as those who had left. Calum, Ed, Pedro, Tarek as well as the returning from injury goalkeeper Josue, contributed to a great start to the season. Our philosophy (well before Simeone's) has always been to think of winning our next game. When you have an irregular line up, with up to 4 or 5 changes every week, due to the special circumstances of our squad, you cannot have long term expectations. One game at a time. Winning our first 8 games including top rivals Banco de España, Union Seleccion and Bar Castilla (Faustos) made us subconsciously believe that we can go all the way. On day 9 we had to travel to Perales to play joint top team Bar la Piscina. We drew 1-1 but we were the better team. And from then on, we never looked back. We just kept winning and ended the season on a very high note, a 0-15 away win at Bar el Trampolin, the highest score ever in the Bunwer League. Campeones in style! The final statistics are, 17 games played, 15 games won, 2 drawn and only 9 goals conceded. Who said that British teams don't perform well in the continent?

MR BRITánICO

When did you get first get involved with FCB and how did you find out about them?It was in 1982. A couple of friends with whom I had played Glasgow College football were already working in Madrid and told me to get myself over to Madrid, and they introduced me to FCB. I also met my wife to be Alison at the same time so it was love and compatability on two fronts.

What’s your greatest memory of your time with the club? Two spring to mind. Managing the club against Gibraltar and introducing the club to the Mundialito, a sponsored tournament here in Madrid for immigrants. It felt like our World Cup.

Who in your opinion is the greatest player to have ever played for the club? There have been many and it would be a disservice to some if I didn't mention their names so sorry no names.

Is it true that you played against Sir Alex Ferguson? Could you tell then that he would go on to be such a great manager?Never played against him but met him a couple of times. On the first occasion he had just taken over at Aberdeen and we chatted about how the Rangers

Celtic monopoly could be broken.

The second time was in 1986 when he had just taken over at Man U. He was at the England Spain friendly match in the Bernabeu and he and his assistant Archie Knox didn't know how to leave the stadium. I showed them the exit. I reckon he had paid his own way into the stadium, incredible !!! Lineker scored 4 for England on the night.

If there was ever a man to whom this title was more befitting it's club legend Stuart Gibb. Stuart has been with the club since 1982 and has been with the club through good and bad times. He's been a player, a manager, chairman, treasurer, you name it, he's done it. Even though he's splitting his time between the UK and Madrid, you will still see him on the touchline whenever he can providing words of wisdom and experience to Rami, Lee or whoever will listen to him. And, he always has his boots in the boot of his car just in case there's a chance of getting a run out. We caught up with him to ask him about his time at and his love for the club.

Page 8

Page 9: Forza FCB Issue 1

What’s the biggest regret of your managerial career with FCB?They say you shouldn't have regrets in football. Apparently a certain Simply Red singer with the club for one year. Just how bad a footballer was he?Lol. It was a Mick Hucknall lookalike and the guy was not signed by me. We were leading easily in an early season game and I gave him the call to come on as substitute. He was so excited it took him about 5 minutes to get his tracksuit bottoms off and the ref booked him for timewasting! How has the club changed since you first became involved?Players but we still play Saturday mornings and socialise.

Where do you see the club in 10 years time? That depends on whoever is in charge. A club and a team needs at least one person in charge. Without that you are nothing.

How important to the Madrid community do you think the club has become? Not sure but I know it has become important to people who loved their football and had the opportunity to play a decent organised game of football against Spanish teams.

Where did the back pain or neck pain come from? Often this is the reason you least SUSPECT.... Did you know that more than 2 hours of continuous sitting is considered a mild spinal strain?

Long hours of sitting can jeopardize the lumbar spine and can even be felt up in the mid-back and neck. Back pain or neck pain is felt as a result of the curves in your spine straightening, which, over time, deform and damage the ligaments and discs in your spine that are meant for support. As well, the surrounding muscles are also put under undue strain only adding to the pain. Many things can cause spinal misalignments, most notably falls or accidents. Long periods of sitting are becoming most commonplace in today’s computer age and are linked to increased back and neck pain.

Unfortunately, this process begins all too early in life. So maybe it’s time to ask: How many hours a day do you sit? Back pain usually strikes well after the problem first began. Is it time for you to get off the couch and get your spinal alignment checked by a qualified chiropractor (www.madridhealth.com)

In the mean time here are some quick tips:

• Your seat should be adjusted so that your feet are flat on the ground or on a foot rest.

• You should end up with your hips higher than your knees and your eyes level with the centre of the computer screen.

• Relax when sitting into your chair, making sure you have your bottom against the seat back and your shoulder blades are touching the back rest of the chair.

• Arms should be flat and your elbows level with the desk or table you are using. Use a seat with arm rests.

• Take regular breaks. Never sit at the computer for more than 40 minutes. When you take a break, walk around and stretch a little.

Now is the time to have a detailed examination by one of our Doctors of Chiropractic at Madrid Health and we promise to advise on all posture and pain related issues. We always refer to the appropriate specialist if we feel necessary and the chiropractor can’t help. Call us now on +34 655 600 689 or visit www.madridhealth.com.

mind gameSManaging your mental state before a game Have you ever turned up to a game and, despite being in great physical condition, not felt mentally ready to play? What happened? Despite our best intentions there are times when our mental and emotional wellbeing runs at less than 100%. However, one of the most amazing abilities we have as human beings is to choose how we feel at any given time. In other words,

we have the ability to control our emotional state. How?In order to do this we need to understand how our emotional state gets triggered, so here’s an example. I’m happily sitting at my desk at work when I look up and see my boss walking towards me. I can see he’s not happy. I hear him say in an angry tone, “I need to see you in my office, NOW”. What is my emotional response to this situation likely to be? Well, that depends very much on me. What I have seen, what I have heard, my beliefs and values and my prior experiences at work and with this individual will come together to trigger a unique emotional response. So how can I change that response to one that is more positive? Well, I can use a different trigger to generate a different more positive emotional response. In Neuro Linguistic Programming we call these kind of triggers anchors. They can occur naturally and can lead to a positive or negative emotional state. They are things that we see, hear, feel, smell or taste that have an association for us to a particular emotional state. Although there are some anchors that many of us might share – like the smell of freshly baked bread – they are as unique as we each are. What triggers one emotion for me may well trigger a completely different emotion for you. So what are some examples? Do you ever crank up the music to get yourself in the mood when you’re getting ready for a night out? Do you wear a particular item of clothing because it makes you feel good? If you do, then you’re already using anchors to manage your emotional state. For some of us walking into the changing room and getting changed into our kit is enough to put us in the right mental state to play. However, there may be certain times when this isn’t enough and we need an extra boost. So what can we do? If any of you have ever seen Ally McBeal, you might remember The Biscuit and his Barry White theme tune. When he felt like he needed a bit of extra confidence, he used to play a bit of Barry White in his head. He was using the song as an anchor. Music is a great way to help us manage our emotional state and having a song or piece of music that you can associate to a feeling of confidence or another positive emotional state can really help. Another option is to use our memories. The first thing to do is to identify a positive emotional state you want. It doesn’t have to be connected to the situation you want to use it in, but you do need to have experienced it before. Next, use all your senses to connect in to that feeling. Imagine you are actually there, experiencing the situation again through your own eyes. What can you see? What can you hear? What are you feeling? What can you smell or taste? The more sensory information you can gather, the stronger the feeling is likely to be. The very act of re-experiencing that memory will be enough to connect you to the positive emotional state. The great thing about using anchors like this is that we can use them in any situation for a range of different positive emotions. So, my question is, what should the FCB theme tune be …? Greetings to the FC Británico community, and a huge thanks to FCB for allowing us to “team up”. Let’s start off with a brief introduction of who I am, what I do and why I’m here teaming up with FC Británico. My name is Chris Webb and I am a Partner with The Spectrum IFA Group, based in Madrid. I arrived on Spanish shores after spending 6 years living and working in Singapore. At that point I decided to relocate my family “back west” and Spain was the destination of choice. Prior to my arrival I agreed to join the Spectrum IFA Group, a Pan European company assisting international clients with all aspects of their financial planning. To save you having to read through pages and pages of information here, you can see what we do on our website at www.spectrum-ifa.com or you can read my own articles on my “high-tech” blog at www.chriswebbifa.com To keep things simple (and the important bits you need to know)……... The Spectrum IFA Group is a founder member of the Federation of European Independent Financial Advisers (FEIFA) and hold corporate membership of the British Chamber of Commerce in Spain. We are fully regulated by the DGS in Spain and registered with the FCA in the UK. We look forward to teaming up with FC Británico - not only supporting the club through sponsorship, but also actively engaging with the FC Británico community through a presence at events and providing information on “topical subjects” within the newsletter. Our first topic of choice is the Brexit, the possibility of the UK leaving the EU. What impact will it have? Who will be affected? Is it time to panic? These are all questions that everybody is asking right now, but let’s look at some areas that concern the majority:

• CurrencyWe all saw the pound rise up to 1.42 against the Euro around November 2015. It now stands at around 1.28, a drop of over 10%. In fact, Sterling was the first victim of the Brexit turmoil as the pound crashed amidst the growing likelihood of Britain’s exit from the EU. But this isn’t necessarily all down to a Brexit, there are other factors involved such as the UK economy slowing and the Bank of England is now less likely to hike interest rates. Both of these have a huge impact on the “true” value of a pound

finan

cial

cent

swi

th C

hris

Web

b

Page 14

Page 15: Forza FCB Issue 1

• UK PropertySome experts are predicting that a Brexit could knock over five per cent off current UK house prices. One online estate agent (eMoov.co.uk) says the average UK house price price could fall by £11,000 because of the uncertainty. They also say that it won’t necessarily be Britain’s exit from the EU that could cause prices to drop, but the ongoing uncertainty among homeowners and buyers as to what will happen next. When you look at the statistics around UK property however, even a five per cent dip would only be eating into the gains that most home owners have already made and with mortgage rates being so low, demand should be sustainable through the next 12 months.

• Stock MarketsFinancial markets have been volatile all year, but that has mainly been driven by the slowdown in China and fears over the solvency of European banks rather than the EU referendum. There will no doubt be further turmoil, but this is expected to be a short term issue and not leave any long term headaches. Leading UK fund managers are in agreement that any long term impact of a Brexit will be minimal. They suggest that there will be further volatility in the markets as the referendum approaches, but are advising clients not to make investment decisions purely on whether they think the Brexit will become a reality. Life and the UK economy will go on, whatever the outcome on June the 23rd.

• Being an Expat / What does it mean for European Expat’s?Firstly it all depends on who you listen to and more importantly who you believe. The “Eurosceptics” are talking about a brave new world with the UK cut adrift from the EU, while the supporters of the EU warn of a dark and isolated existence should Britain cut its ties with Europe.

We will be inundated with opinions from some of the “heavy hitters” in the UK. Politicians, Business leaders, Analysts and Economists are all going to be voicing their opinions on the matter, most of the information will be contradictory, just theories and opinions. Until the event it will be hard to build a perfectly clear picture. Articles are being written that a Brexit would be bad news for expats; apparently we will become illegal immigrants overnight. Whilst it might be easy to see what the fuss is all about, the reality of that happening is very unlikely. Apparently there will be a mass exodus of Expats from Europe and our right to live here becoming questionable but in fact, it is quite the opposite. According to the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties 1969, expats now have ‘acquired rights’ in their home countries, which they should hold onto in the case of a Brexit. Expats should retain their free movement rights within Europe and will retain all their rights following a UK withdrawal.Whilst this has not been confirmed in the European Parliament, earlier precedents suggest that all EU citizens should keep their rights after any Treaty changes. This was the case when Greenland withdrew from the EU in the mid 1980’s and it can be safely assumed that the same would apply to a Brexit. The biggest issue will not be for the Brits already living abroad, but for the Brits who are planning to move abroad. Only time will tell the true impact of a Brexit. The referendum looks set to trigger further turmoil as financial markets and the general public wait to see which way the vote goes. Even then the uncertainty will continue as there will be a period of time (measured in years) for the actual exit to take place. If you would like to arrange a free financial review then please contact me, Chris Webb, by emailing [email protected] or by calling me on 639118185.

The main pitfall entrepreneurs and companies make is not paying attention to Intelectual Property and Intellectual Property rights at the early stage of their development.

But what is Intellectual Property, Intellectual Property Rights and why are they important?

“Keep your eyes on the ball” Approximately 80% of a compa-ny’s value comes from Intellectual Property and Intellectual Property Rights. Think I’m pulling your leg… Well recently Real Madrid confirmed their top spot in the world’s Football Club Rich List for the 11th year. Broadcasting and Merchandising accounted for approximately 77% of their income.

Intellectual Property is anything anyone creates. Intellectual Property Rights are the rights granted in a certain territory not to the creator of the Intellectual Property, but to the person or legal entity that registers rights first.

It is not about being a big or a small company, it is about being “first to the ball.”

Registering your project’s name, logos etc. “trademarks”, designs, innovations “patents” from the start will put you on top of the league from day one. Don’t drop points early on because it’s hard to catch up and correcting the situation can result in a lot of legal fees.

Assuming you start well then comes the problem of staying on top of the league, managing your Intellectual Property Rights. So you’ve clearly established your ownership rights over your trademarks, designs, patents, your unique creations. Then you can leverage on these valuable assets to build your business. Thus you can sell your jerseys into the Asian market, sell your TV rights into the Australian market etc. There will be no limit to what the “Britanicos” can achieve, soon you will be in the Champions League.

Stay Onside with yourIntellectual Property

And of course, if anyone infringes on your Intellectual Property Rights you have the legal foundation to show them a “Red Card”.

So please don’t get caught offside “Protect your Intellectual Property”

So what should be your next steps to begin climbing the Intellectual Property League Table, well obviously you need to speak with GP Girardi. We’d be delighted to get you into shape for the new Intellectual Property season. Giovanna is a Lawyer, specialising in Intellectual Property.

The Benefits of Bilingualism or Multilingualism

“To have another language is to possess a second soul.” Charlemagne, King of the Franks

There are numerous benefits of learning a second or even third language. From improved brain function to stronger professional opportunities, being bilingual and multilingual has numerous advantages over having just one language.

Often, once people are able to communicate in English (either as a native or non-native), they are hesitant to take on another language. It is perceived that English is the language of the world, however, in reality, only 5% of the world speaks English, while the other 95% of the world has a different mother tongue.

So why learn another language? Here are just a few reasons to dust off the dictionary and get learning:

Speak and communicate with more people, worldwide

Learning Spanish, for example, helps you gain access to four continents. It is the mother tongue in over 20 countries and is the fourth most commonly spoken language in the world.

Understand other cultures

A person’s critical thinking skills also improve as they learn to view the world through a different, more cultural lens. You can become less of a tourist and communicate with more people and feel more at home, travelling like a native.

Keep your brain in shape!

A very interesting advantage to studying another language is that it keeps your brain sharp, creating new pathways, and it also enables language learners to quickly switch between two different tasks or cognitive functions. In fact, studies show that speaking two languages reduces your chances of developing dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. Similar research shows that studying languages can improve your memory and slow age-related forgetfulness.

Get ahead in the workplace

According to MIT economist, Albert Saiz, proficiency in Spanish will pay off with a whopping $51,000 more in your bank account over a lifetime. Around 20% of Amer-icans speak only Spanish, which makes it an in-demand language for the American job market. Employers are looking for impressive resumes and being bilingual is a strong way to make your CV stand out.

Page 18

Page 19: Forza FCB Issue 1

Whether you desire to be bilingual in Spanish to advance your skill set in the job market or wish to take up the language for the cultural experience, there is an abundance of knowl-edge to be gained by taking on the valiant task of pursuing fluency. Your efforts will pay off in leaps and bounds, especially that moment when you feel comfortable in a conversation for the first time. Go and discover your second soul. ¡Buena suerte!

COSLADA, CALLE DEL PUERTO DE BILBAO, 2-4

LIGA BUNWER - TORNEO APERTURA Saturday 09 january 2016

MAYCOMETAL FC BRITÁNICO DE MADRID 2 - 3

The Brits, lining up 4-5-1 and sporting their new kit sponsored by Asian Street Food Restaurant TukTuk got the game underway kicking from right to left. The opening ten minutes were lacklustre and neither team was able to retain the ball and make use of possession. With both teams seemingly content to play the long ball, a moment of magic ensued as Cant and Bosetti linked excellently on the edge of the 18 and Bosetti curled the ball superbly in to the top corner of the net. 0-1 FCB. The game had barely restarted when a defensive mix up allowed the Maycometal forward a free header from a looping throw in to equalise. 1-1. Moments later FCB lost midfield maestro Cant to injury, who was replaced by Coach Lee Fletcher. Chances were few and far between and FCB talisman Harry was often left isolated leading the line. The first half played out without incident and both teams headed in , with the Mayco´ manager perhaps the happier of the two.

HALF TIME 1-1

FCB restarted the second half with a renewed vigour and belief, with left winger Majid looking dangerous and direct from the outset. El capitano Harry flicked on a Fletcher throw in to Bosetti, who calmly beat his man and dispatched the ball past the onrushing

goalkeeper. 1-2 FCB. The Brits continued to look dangerous and front man Harry worked tirelessly in front of a midfield unit that battled and competed throughout. Fouls and underhand tactics became prominent in a game running high on intensity, and on the 70 minute mark a brawl broke out between both benches and players. After five minutes the referee restored order and a flurry of cards were brandished. Both teams were tiring and the game began to lack pace and quality. With 80 minutes played, Majid dispossessed the opposition and struck the ball on the half volley from 35 yards in to the top corner. A moment of brilliance and individual skill worthy of winning any game. 1-3. FCB, having used all of their substitutions looked fatigued but continued battling and were unlucky to allow Mayco´ a lifeline after some slack defending in the closing minutes. A goalmouth scramble resulted in a goal, and set up a grand stand finale. 2-3 FCB. In the final minute Fletcher cleared off the line, and man of the match Ally put his head where it hurt and magnificently defended a definite goal scoring opportunity. Despite the 11 minutes of added time, FCB demonstrated their quality and true grit to leave Coslada with maximum points.

FCB started off the match totally in control. They passed the ball around comfortably and the opposition barely got out of their own half. Despite having the lions share of the possession the goals were not forthcoming. The defence had nothing to do but mop up the long balls that were being sent in desperation. The breakthrough finally came when Macca shot from 35 yards and the keeper pulled off a fantastic save, however not being able to catch the blazing strike The Fox in the box tapped it in and got his first of the game. 1-0. The play continued at a pace that both Rami and Fleck didn’t approve of. So Alberto moved to midfield, Macca to CB and Alvaro to RB. The instructions were simple, intensity. FCB had the opposition frantically scrambling to stop the goals. Luigi ran through onto a perfect ball and slotted it in. 2-0.

HALF TIME 2-0 The tactics were changed at half time and the midfield went for the diamond formation. This made an already one sided match brutal.

The game was being played in the Amaviajes half and they looked no closer to getting to the FCB goal line. The inevitable happened when Andrew got his second of the game by cooly finishing past the keeper. 3-0. Confidence was growing and everyone was willing to have a crack at goal. The forth came when Jordan banged in a screamer from the edge of the box. 4-0. Changes were made with Alvaro coming off for Matt and Luigi coming off for Calum and Ali for Simon. The fresh legs kept the pressure on and FCB went for 5. It came through Alberto bursting into the box and claiming and well deserved goal. 5-0. The next change came when Macca, who had been a rock in the centre of defence all game came off for Yago. The referee seemed to be calling for offside every few minutes. Calum who had been putting the strikers through on goal, and anyone else for the that matter, for fun slotted Andrew through on goal and the Fox got his hat-trick. 6-0. The full time whistle blew and FCB came away with the bench sitting there thinking, it should have been more.

The game kicked off with FCB trying to pass the ball around with their usual skill, this was not the result. Stray passes were common and a condensed midfield did not seem to get flowing. A few chances were made but no real test of the keeper was succeeded. Bar Galicia were disciplined and played a very well organised game. They broke with long balls from defence and managed to cause the bench some distress at times. The offside rule was a particular point of contention for FCB, our strikers went through on goal and the referee blew for offsides more than Tarantino’s characters use that lovely four letter word. Zach moving to centre and Foxy to the right did not make an impact. The law of averages would suggest we were onside for some, the match official didn’t seem to agree. A disappointing first half ended at 0-0.

HALF TIME 0-0

The half started with FCB looking to break the deadlock through passing with more speed and intensity, Fleck’s favourite word, but it was not meant to be. It continued much the same way the first half did, frustratingly difficult to watch as BAR G went about putting in tough tackles and raising a few eyebrows on the sidelines. Bruised and battered FCB did not give up and continued to look for a way through. Foxy came off for Alexis, who put some of that dribbling prowess to good use. Then Alex came off for Alvaro and Alberto went to CB, Alvaro played some fabulous passes through the defence but alas it was becoming a nightmare of a day. BAR G went through on goal and should have scored were it not for some great defending from the lads at the back. Finally Ali came off for Macca who tried to pressure the tired legs on the field and came close with a strike from distance. It ended 0-0 and the coaching staff were as dejected as the players. Some real thinking would need to be done in order to ensure this is never to be repeated.

Before the day the permutations of FCB´s visit to ninth placed CMFC were clear; 7 points from the remaining three games would guarantee them the league title, with BLP sitting precariously in second spot. Before kick off a minutes silence was paid in respect of ex Chairman Roger Marlowe who sadly passed away earlier in the week after battling against illness for a year.

It was a first half to forget as FCB made the trip west to play CMFC at the Hippodromo. A recent dip in form was on show for all to see in a lackluster opening 45 minutes. The Brits got the game underway kicking from right to left, lining up 3-4-2-1. FCB started slowly and were unable to break their opposition down, who openly admitted they would settle for a point in order to boycott the potential title party. FCB rarely threatened and looked jaded in the opening 30 minutes, making little use of their superior possession. The only chances created in a forgettable first half were through KEITH and THOMSEN, who both had a fantastic game adapting excellently to the new system.

HALF TIME 0-0

The management team made changes and reverted back to the familiar system of 4-4-2.The changes worked, immediately FCB looked more threatening and lively, with central midfielder Mellon running the show on and off the ball. FCB had a goal disallowed for an alleged obstruction, and this was the turning point in a second half that FCB dominated against a quickly tiring opponent. Centre back Hyner attacked an in swinging corner and reaped the dividends of seeing his header hit the back of the net. 0-1 FCB. Moments later, after a fullry of chances, MAJID converted another set piece to make the game 0-2. A sigh of relief could be heard around the stadium. It was that very sigh of relief that cost FCB a clean sheet, as CMFC scored with on the back of a very slow counter attack, slotting home past the otherwise untroubled keeper.1-2 FCB. FT

But for the 3 points, it was another disappointing day at the office for FCB. But as the old cliché goes; “points win championships, not performances”. FCB entertain AD Carrozas at home on Saturday in the penultimate match of the season, looking to take one step closer to being crowned champions.

The game started with FCB moving the ball well apparently finding space with ease. They pressed high and made the opposition make mistakes regularly. Sadly that ran both ways at the beginning. Jordan and Ed pressed and won the ball well on the left and Rama kept it quiet on the right with some calm defending. Foxy pressed across the front with Luigi in hot pursuit. Then a corner was given. Zak stepped up to swing it in and naturally had a dig, not the first time he has scored from the corner and it won’t be the last. 1-0.

HALF TIME 1-0

The second half began with total dominance from FCB and they attacked at will. Their fast forwards were no match for the stalwart

defence. The second came through Calum who volleyed home a cross from Jordan. 2-0. Time for some fresh legs. Foxy came off for new Andy and Rama off for Macca. This change kept the pressure on and they couldn’t hold out forever. Macca had a shot from distance but to no avail. Then it happened, Zak slotted the ball into the far corner. 3-0. Alvaro on for Alberto and Rodgers came on for Ed and then the onslaught began anew. Macca burst into the box and cut back for Zak who came very close to his hat trick, but the ball sailed wide by a hair. The barrage of assault continued until the referee called time on a game that would only have one team coming out on top, a performance the score line does do justice.

Saturday saw Rami Majids´ blue and yellow army retain the Bunwer championship for the first time in 43 years. Knowing that 3 points would seal the deal the Brits swept Bar El Trampolin away, hitting 15 goals without reply in a comprehensive demolition of the leagues basement boys. Kicking from right to left it took less than 5 minutes for FCB to take a one goal lead, with El Capitano Harry tapping in from close range. Two minutes later the lead was doubled after Harry grabbed his second of the game with a cool finish. When Mcleod grabbed his first goal of the season from inside the 18 yard box the proverbial floodgates opened.0-3 FCB. Moments later a superb 25 yard strike from Alberto flew in to the top corner, making it 0-4. Harry grabbed his hat trick seven minutes later after bursting in to the box and dispatching the ball past the keeper. Alberto grabbed his second of the game with some great foot work and a cool finish. Moments later Harry grabbed his fourth of the game. Mellon and Cant added to the tally before half time, meaning the Brits headed in in complete control and 0-9 up.

HALF TIME 0-9

Wholesale changes were made at half time, and super sub Fox scored with his first touch drilling the ball past the keeper. Harry made it 11 shortly after, before Hyner scored following some great individual play. In the closing minutes both forwards both scored to add further insult to injury, with Harry grabbing his double hat trick and Hyner capping a routine victory off with his hat trick. 0-15 full time. It was an emphatic performance from FCB who finished off the season unbeaten, in the process picking up 15 wins and 2 draws from a possible 17 games.

FCB finished the first half of the season as second highest scorers, bagging 79 goals, averaging over 4.5 goals a game. In contrast Majids´barmy army only conceded 9 goals on the road to the title, that’s one conceded every 1.88 games, by far the divisions best. After Saturdays’ demolition of last placed el Trampolin 43 points separated top and bottom spot. A fantastic half of the season all round.

fc británico de madrid MAYCOMETAL0 - 2

FCB started their pursuit of their first ever Clausura trophy on the back of their retaining of the Apertura against form side Maycometal. The game started off with a simple 4-4-2 formation thanks to Mike Basset (Fleck). From the beginning MAYCO´s game plan was simple, get free kicks or hit Javi (the Mayco striker) with the long ball. The former worked soon into the first half when a soft challenge from Alex ended in a penalty and a yellow. The first of many “fouls” to come. Josue stepped up and in cat like fashion saved the ill-gotten penalty. Still 0-0. FCB tried to break down the defense, but it was proving hard work as they were organized and motivated. The Stalemate continued for the first half with neither team looking likely to score even though the Brits had most of the ball. The FCB defense held out with Cris, Alex, Rama and Macca easily handling the attacking threats.

HALF TIME 0-0

The second half began with FCB looking bright and fresh, passing was flowing and the break seemed to be coming, the woodwork was rocked a few times but no goals. Then disaster struck. Alex got a second yellow and an early shower. Fabian came into help out the back 3 and the attacking continued. A cross from a free kick saw MAYCO´s striker guide a glancing header into the far corner 1-0. Luigi came off for Foxy, Macca off for Liam and Alvaro for Ali. FCB continued to attack and show why they are champions. Sadly another set piece saw three unmarked men at the back post line up to put the ball in the net. A disappointing game ended 2-0 with the Brits wanting to respond in a strong fashion in the next fixture.

FCB started like a bat out hell at the whistle. Macca and Rama pushed high and wide working with their wingers, Ed and Jordan re-spectively, as per Fleck’s instruction to make the compact defensive unit of Animales break rank and allow FCB in behind (Phras-ing). The first 20 mins continued this way with the opposition barely getting on the ball as Callum, Zak, Ish, Tally and Ed dispossessed the Spaniards in midfield. They tried the long ball, but Alex and Christian were more tan up to the task. Zak opened the scoring with a well-deserved goal. 0-1. The second goal came in quick succession, again Zak get-ting behind the organised defence and bagging another. 0-2. Then FCB backed off and started to play with too much con-fidence. The Spanish side took the oppor-tunity from a poorly cleared corner and hammered the ball into the bottom corner. 1-2. They nearly repeated this feat in iden-tical fashion but FCB were let off the hook.

HALF TIME 1-2

The second half started well, passing and movement were ample. Animales equal-ised with some luck and a lot of determi-nation. 2-2. Macca was taken off for Foxy

who went in at right midfield. Christian was taken off for Liam who went in at centre for-ward. Animales managed to get another as Hutch was beaten from distance, 3-2. FCB could not believe what had happened, they let a two goal lead be overtaken. The game descended into the inevitable slow paced game that Spanish sides love when they are in the lead. The frustrating play got to the Brits who were losing patience. Then disaster struck as Alex went down in the centre cir-cle after a challenge and in the chaos got a boot to the head, intentional or not, those on the side lines could only see madness en-sue. He rose to his feet in a rage and was giv-en a red card by the referee for his conduct. His second yellow in two games. A 10 man FCB acquitted itself well by attacking relent-lessly. Jordan did well in this spell by defend-ing well and then attacking with pace. The break came when Foxy took a pass well and with his second touch banged it into the far corner, simple, reliable and effective, ex-actly what we have come to expect from the player. 3-3. Try as they might the fourth goal would not come and they game end-ed in a disappointing draw. The title hopes for the Champions were now unachievable.

It was a typical March day in England on 14 March 1973. The Braziallian team Santos were touring England and were due to have games against Chelsea and Spurs. Their first game on English soil however was a match against the then-mighty Plymouth Argyle.

An hour before the kick-off thousands were already throng-ing the terraces and thousands were milling around outside. Home Park had never witnessed anything quite like it be-fore. After all, it was only a friendly.

But this was a once in a lifetime occasion to see the world’s greatest footballer turning the clock back a few seas ons, and it seemed as if every football fan in the West Coun try wanted to be there on the night Pele came to Plymouth.

In a strange twist of events before the game the Santos team refused to take to the field until they received their share of the gate receipts in hard currency.

Eventually the game got underway and Mike Dowling need-ed just three minutes to lift the roof off the Santos net with a blistering drive. Derek Rickard promptly made it two with a deft header which Santos claimed was offside. Their goal-keeper raced half the l ength of the pitch to argue with a linesman. When Claudio later fumbled the ball Jimmy Hinch accepted an easy chance to make it three. Argyle players were taking it all much too seriously for the temperamental Brazilians who were so upset that they threatened to call it all off again if the referee wasn’t replaced at half-time. Pele, the ambassador, put his diplomatic skills to work to restore calm in the dress-ing room corridors. He then returned to the pitch to express the mesmerising talents the fans were still waiting to see.

Pele’s close-control dribbling, passing and shooting sparked a Santos revival. But his only goal was from the penalty spot. Edu swerved through to seize a second goal. At the final whistle hundreds of youngsters swarmed on to the ground. The prize of Pele’s shirt went to Johnny Hore but he and the rest of the team had been warned that this special souvenir was booked for pride of place in the boardroom. Alford tells a lovely story about the beginning of the game’s second half, when Pele hit one from the halfway line. The next time he saw the ball it had crashed against his crossbar and was falling accidentally into his arms. Alford is a very modest man and didn’t tell me the final score. But we looked it up. Amazingly Plymouth Argyle won, 3-2. Now that’s something to tell your grandchildren.

Vice captaian Jordan Maston give us the background about the sala team and his opinion on the season so farFC Britanico play in the IFL league Madrid 5-a-side, the league has been going since 1988. Over the last three seasons we have won a number of trophies. In 2013/14 we won the second half of the league and picked up the league cup. In 2014/15 we managed to retain the title of league champions, coming down to the last game of the season battling with close rivals Los Becarios who were hot on our trail.

The team has a wide range of nationalities: British, French, Spanish, Belgian and even Brazilian. The team captain Cyril, the crazy Frenchman, and vice captain Jordan have both been playing since FCB re-entered the league in 2013 and they are so proud to have lifted trophies over recent years. Henry, who has also been there since the re-entry, has even sponsored the team and the league cup with Best of Britain and has played an important role in getting the team re-started, bringing players like Alberto, Danilo and Miguel in to the team who have all strengthened FCB.

This season has been disruptive and we have had to say a sad farewell to some key players in the team, our striker, Brazilian man Pedro who has moved back home, the big right back Barry who is starting an new adventure in England, and the latest, long time player Simón is starting a new life in London. They will all be greatly missed, they are all “cracks”!!! As we say goodbye to some great players we also welcome some new ones to the team, Ali who is becoming our top goal scorer, Hussien who is always there to assist and Nacho the rock at the back.

This season has been a slow tough start for the FCB team, losing major key players and riddled with injuries throughout the start of the season has meant that results have not gone the way that we wanted. Despite only having three wins in the first half of the season we are not out yet, we are excited to kickstart the second half of the season and retain our title as second division champions for a third year in a row.
