Joy Notes by Pastor Joyce McCormick

You may have noticed in the church bulletin and E-notes that we had a Charge Conference scheduled for the purpose of considering one of our young adults, Katie Toalson, as a

candidate for ordained ministry in the United Methodist Church. I am so pleased to announce that the Charge Conference voted unanimously to support Katie as a candidate for ordained ministry, and to bless her continued journey toward this goal.

Katie has been discerning her call to ministry since high

school. She completed her undergraduate degree at Texas A&M and continued to search for God’s plan for her life. This past August, Katie attended a Candidacy Summit in Kerrville with other candidates for ordained ministry. She was part of a candidacy group that met monthly from August through

January of this year to discuss their understanding of ordained ministry and what their gifts and grace for ministry might be.

In February, Katie met with the Staff/Pastor Parish Relations Committee here at New Fountain UMC to answer questions that candidates for ministry in the Methodist

denomination have been asked since the time of John Wesley, the founder of Methodism. She was articulate, clear, and honest during the interview, and the S/PPRC voted unanimously to move her along to the Charge Conference for further approval.

Gospel Singer,

Cynthia Clawson,

will be in concert on

Saturday, April 7th, 7 PM

at the First Baptist Church Hondo.

Admission is free;

a love offering will be taken.

Medina County Job Corps Benefit

(continued from page 1, “Joy Notes”)

Next, Katie will interview with the District Committee on Ordained Ministry to be considered as a Certified Candidate for ministry. She was accepted to all the seminaries to which she applied, and has chosen to attend the seminary at Duke University in North Carolina. She will move and begin her coursework this coming fall.

It has been the practice of this congregation to financially support seminary students in the past, and it is our privilege to do so again. Brett Beard offered the devotion at the March Administrative Council, and his topic was sacrifice. He commented that parents, grandparents, and other family members make sacrifices for the sake of people they love. He also said that parents, grandparents, and people of the church make sacrifices for the sake of the whole

church. His topic could not have been more timely, because he also tied it in to Holy Week and the sacrifice Jesus made on our behalf.

The Administrative Council subsequently established a “Seminary Education Fund.” This fund is not specifically for Katie, but for anyone who is approved as a candidate for ministry out of this congregation and attends an accredited and approved seminary. If you wish to donate to

the “Seminary Education Fund”, please indicate that in the memo line of your check. PLEASE, do NOT specify that the donation is for Katie. That could cause tax ramifications for both Katie and the church.

The journey leading to ordination takes time, dedication, and resolve. It is my prayer that we will support Katie by our prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness as she prepares

to do the same.

I look forward to seeing you in worship and Sunday School.

Peace and grace,

Pastor Joyce

A big THANK YOU to the MYF and leader, Jennifer

LaPorte, for the invitation for lunch and to see the

movie “I Can Only Imagine”. Also, thanks to the

volunteers who drove us. Those who attended

from the UMW were Mary Heiligman, Imogene

Meyers, Doris Saathoff, and Fanelle Bohmfalk.

Thanks for a very special afternoon.

Our next meeting is Wed., April 4th at 2:00 PM in the Wisdom of the Word (WOW) classroom.

Tina Stiles will bring our program, A Sacred Space for Grief & Hope. Our hostess will be Doris

Saathoff.

On April 15th at 3:00 PM, we are to help with the service at Community Care.

In Christ’s Love,

Fanelle Bohmfalk

United Methodist Women

Since April has a 5th Sunday, we will gather at

New Fountain UMC Sanctuary for Singspiration

at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 29th.

Singspiration is always filled with good music,

but April's gathering will be even more special.

We are hosting the Singing Women of South

Texas, in lieu of our typical music lineup. This

wonderful group will share their musical

excellence just as their mission states: "to glorify

God and to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ

through music."

We invite all from the community to come and be

blessed.

As usual, refreshments will be served afterward,

so please bring finger food or a dessert to share.

Toxic Relationships

At the end of this past month, our lesson

was on “Toxic Relationships.” While we

are called to love God and love others, we

also need to understand all that the Bible

tells us about how to handle unhealthy or

dangerous relationships. In addition to the

plethora of scriptures in Proverbs regarding

relationships, our two primary scriptures

from this lesson were:

• 2 Corinthians 6:14 which says, “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what

fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?”

• 1 Corinthians 15:33-34 which says, “Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character.”

We further discussed what to do when we find ourselves in a relationship that is not in God’s best

interest for our lives, by setting boundaries and, in some cases, ending the relationship all together.

Finally, we spoke about handling it with grace, love and forgiveness.

Our March Outing with UMW

We had a wonderful outing in March as a group of 25 people including youth, chaperones and ladies

from our UMW went to San Antonio for the afternoon. We enjoyed a nice lunch together and then went

to see the movie “I Can Only Imagine.” I would highly recommend this film about a young man trying to

come to grips with the deep damage his father has done to him. This movie is about faith, redemption,

and forgiveness and I believe many of us were a little teary eyed by the end.

Seniors:

PLEASE remember that April 8th is the deadline for submitting pictures for the Senior Slideshow that is

shown annually in May. Please send your pictures to Kim Freehauf or Jennifer LaPorte by April 8th. This

can be submitted by email or by putting your pictures onto a labeled USB or a CD/DVD.

Just a reminder for May 6th, this is the day we will be honoring our Seniors during the worship service

and showing the Senior slideshow, as well as the date of our Senior Luncheon. Details will be shared as

the date approaches.

Lenten Gently Used Clothing Drive

was a Huge Success !

If you happened to see all the clothing, belts, and

shoes that were stored in the prayer room recently,

there is little doubt you would be impressed. Once

again New Fountain UMC stepped up to the challenge.

We partnered with the 7th Day Adventist and other

churches to collect clothing items to be sorted,

sanitized and made ready for those in need after

any disaster that causes them to be displaced.

Volunteers came to move all those clothes from

the prayer room to the “loading dock” in front of

the FOLC. Below you can see the truck they sent

to pick up the items from all the participating

churches. It was quite a sight!

The Great Give-Away

will be Saturday, April 14th

at the Loading Dock in Hondo.

If you have items to donate,

call Sandi Schweers (830-931-4123)

Thank You

Dear Friends,

Thank you for the generous gift we

received from you today. The support from

New Fountain UMC enables us to provide those

we serve a nurturing, Christian community and

the greatest gift of all, a personal relationship

with Jesus Christ.

Since we do not receive church

apportionments, we depend on the voluntary

gifts from friends like you. Your generosity

makes a difference! The contributions you make

to this organization are a tremendous blessing

and enable us to meet the ever-increasing needs

of those God has entrusted to us. Thank you for

enabling us to improve the lives of the young

people we serve.

Sincerely,

Allison Crawford

KAIROS COOKIE BAKE

We bake up to 36,000 cookies for a

typical Kairos weekend. Cookies are a

tangible expression of Christian love

and an indication of God's concern for a

group of people who seldom encounter

either in the course of their daily lives.

The men who receive these cookies are

incarcerated. Kairos Prison Ministry is

to share the transforming love and

forgiveness of Jesus Christ to impact the

hearts and lives of incarcerated men,

women and youth, as well as their

families, to become loving and

productive citizens of their

communities.
