Of all the French carnivals, the Dunkirk one is probably the mostfamous one, the noisiest, the craziest and the oldest one. Forweeks, some groups – the fisherbands – are looking up and down toeach other, are facing each other with sarabands and songs. Theybreak up to animate the city and eventually are coming together inone huge heart to celebrate their sailors, to honor Jean Bart andforcefully demand their sardines thrown out from the top of thebelfry.
