If you love animals this club is for you!Have you ever wonderedwhat can I do to protect endangered animals? Join the club, find the

answers and take ACTION!!! Meet like-minded friends as we research endangered animals from

each continent! We will also develop a service project to raise awareness of the plight of native

endangered species. Get up close and personal with some of these creatures with a hands-on

visit to Fountain Rock Park & Nature Center. Along the way, we will learn about careers working

with animals as we visit the local wildlife preserve and zoo. All the while, we will read some

fantastic fiction and share book reviews of our favorite books on the subject. Make a

difference. Change the World. Protect nature. Join the Endangered Animal Club today!

What is the need for the program?

The Endangered Animal Club meets the needs of our community in that it provides a program

for Elementary School age children. The Endangered Animal Club makes a connection to the

FCPL Mission Statement in that it will provide facilities and an environment which connects

people to ideas, experiences and information. This club is part of the SPRING 2013 schedule.

Who are the potential community partners? I feel that building community partnerships is a winning equationfor all participants. I am very excited to work with following community partners:

Fountain Rock Park & Nature Center 8511 Nature Center Place Walkersville, MD 21793

This local park & nature center will provide a hands-on connection to a native endangered species the box turtle. Participants

will learn about the plight of the box turtle as well as developing a service project to help protect this native species.

Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo 13019 Catoctin Furnace Road Thurmont, MD 21788

Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the behind the scenes activities at this local preserve & zoo. They wil

also learn about a variety of careers working with animals. Participants will also have the opportunity to view a variety of non-

    native endangered species.

What are the steps to setting up the event?

#1. Develop a general overview of the program.

#2. Publish the event in FCPLs BookMarks program guide.

#3. 1 month prior to event, contact and schedule with community partners.

#4. 3 - 4 weeks prior to event, promote through in house displays, lobby banner, fliers at local businesses & elementary school.

#5. 2 3 weeks prior to event, promote on facebook & twitter.

#6. Develop a specific syllabus which provides the topic, date, time, and meeting location.
