GAUGE:

11 sts + 24 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm) over Rows 14 of pattern.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern andthe materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. The needle or hook size called for in thepattern is based on what the designer used, but it is not unusual for gauge to vary from personto person. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make your swatch, try using a smaller sizehook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

Making a Gauge Swatch

STITCH EXPLANATION:

yo (yarn over)1. Bring yarn to front, between the needles. 2. Take yarn to back, over the right needle to make a new loop on your needle (almost like a new st!). yo2 (double yarn over) 1. Bring yarn to front, between the needles.2. Take yarn to back, over the right needle to make a new loop on your needle. 3. Rep steps 1 and 2, taking care not to drop the first yo off the right needle, to make a second loop on yourneedle.

NOTES:

Scarf is worked in one piece in an easy drop stitch pattern. Extra loops are made by working yarn overs anddouble yarn overs. All of the loops from the yarn overs are dropped from the needle when knitting thefollowing row. The dropped sts are an easy way to create a lacy look.
