notes from the new executive director

Priscilla EssertOne month has passed since I started working as the Executive Director at Vintage House.

Each and every day, upon meeting instructors and

class participants, I marvel at the energy, creativity, joy, friendship and community at Vintage House. While working in my office, a verse or two of Frosty the Snowman and the laughter of good friends meeting one another for bridge put a smile on my face.

My first month here started off with A Vintage Evening at Ramekins, and later, smells of roast turkey and stuffing filled the hallways as staff prepared for Thanksgiving dinner. We swiftly moved on to decorating and preparing for the upcoming holidays as dedicated staff whipped up rich, impactful winter offerings. This is an amazing place to work and such a treasure for our community.

As I meet the people who call Vintage House home, they ask to know more about me. So, here we go: Originally from Connecticut, I moved here 5 years ago via New York, Mexico, and Oakland. (Come on by, and you'll get the long story.) I spent the first chapter of my life as a professional musician (flute), and transitioned into nonprofit management 15 years ago. My most recent project was at the Volunteer Center of Sonoma County. I'm old enough to receive the senior discount at Sonoma Market and Whole Foods — and also to have lost both parents in the past year. That loss sparked a deep interest in all things 55-plus. I would like to change the conversation around aging and how best to support all stages of the journey.

Honored to be part of the Vintage House team, I'll work diligently to address the needs of a broader range of Sonoma Valley Seniors, while guarding the Vintage House traditions so essential to current members. Some of the changes will be subtle (moving the Holiday Dinner from the 25th of Dec. to the 22nd), and others will be more dramatic (facility upgrades, class offerings, case management).

I thank all of you for being part of the Vintage House family and I look forward to meeting all of you in 2018. Come on by and say “hello”!

2018 SONOMA QUILT SHOWThe 15th Annual Sonoma Quilt Show benefitting Vintage House Senior Center will be held on Saturday & Sunday, Mar 10 & 11, 2018 from 10 am–4 pm. Judy Baldwin, local artist and quilter will be featured at this year’s show. Judy began as a painter and "paints" with quilts (see right). “I find a fabric that would create a background for my painting, create the painting and then turn it into an art quilt," says Judy.

100-plus quilts by local quilters are dis-played at the show. The $5 admission fee is donated to Vintage House Senior Center to support their programs.
