Wanted to block further aid to Britain

At one point had more than 800,000 members

AMERICA FIRST COMMITTEE

Authorized the President to aid any nation whose

defense he believed was vital to American security

FDR immediately began sending aid to Britain

Eventually, aid was sent to the Soviets as well

LEND-LEASE ACT

The nations which needed American military

equipment were running out of money to pay for weapons

Lend-Lease allowed nations to pursue their war efforts

with the idea that they would pay back their debts

to the U.S. later

WHY DID ROOSEVELT ASK CONGRESS TO PASS THE LEND-LEASE ACT?

The protesters sued their roles as mothers to attack the aid bill as a threat to

their sons’ lives.

By praying, they hoped to appeal to the lawmakers

religious beliefs by equating religion with pacifism
