Dear Dr. Piety,

I was a student in your early-morning intro to philosophy course in 1999, and I spoke with you a couple times about living abroad. I had beenaccepted to the Peace Corps and couldn’t imagine moving my whole life overseas for a period of years, and you talked with me about yourexperience working and researching and living overseas as a Kierkegaard expert. Turns out I really liked living abroad, and after two years inBangladesh with the Peace Corps I joined the Foreign Service and have moved my life to China and South Korea and back to China and thento Burma and now Jerusalem. I don’t remember if I ever thanked you for your words of encouragement regarding moving abroad, but you gotme at a critical moment in my life and helped steer me toward what has become a very fulfilling way of life, and I’m very grateful for yourcontribution to it. I’m on a little summer vacation right now in Copenhagen and see Kierkegaard’s name everywhere so was thinking of youand how our meeting affected my life, and just wanted to say hello and thank you. I hope you are doing well.
