LED: Complete Light

The rods and cones in the human eye are sensitive to light generated around 507nm (scotopic) and 555nm (photopic).

Most conventional light emits light greater than 555nm wavelength. This light is observed by the cone receptors in the eye (photopic vision) and is measured by most lux meters.

The rod receptors in the eye also receive light (scotopic vision). This light, from the blue end of the spectrum around 507nm and is more normal to the human eye.

While conventional light tends to emit mostly photopic light, LED light is both scotopic and photopic and more suited to human vision.

What about Lumen Output?

Comparison of LEDs to conventional light based on lumen output is only partly insightful.

Since LED lighting is a revolution in light technology, all of the light is focussed by lenses. Light is directed not scattered.

Thus the rate of effective lumens is much higher since many conventional fixtures suffer from reflector loss of up to 50% of lumen output.

LED: Technical Background

Advantages of white light:

LED is Different:

LED light is different, the light doesn’t flicker and the lights don't ‘blow’.

It is healthier as it is less likely to induce headaches and won't rapidly lose its brightness like fluorescent lighting.

It is revolutionary in its cost savings, on average 70%, it is greener and it is safer.

With a 10 year lifetime, LED cuts maintenance and replacement costs dramatically - the savings from maintenance alone can cover the replacement costs over the lifetime of the light.

LEDs are compatible with PIR sensor systems and emergency fittings. The fact they are ‘instant-on’ means that LEDs are programmable to only be on when you need them - saving you even more and extending their lifetime.

Unlike PL or CFL lighting their life is not shortened by repeated short switching and they will spark within 0.2-1.0 seconds at 100% output.

We understand. You want the cost savings of an LED luminaire. You don't want added hassle of external gear, drivers, power supply units and wiring.

We don't either. At Frontline LED we are pioneering the next generation of LED lighting with their Direct Connect LED lighting range.

Many LED lighting providers required customers to purchase additional control gear, drivers and install parallel circuit. This units were necessary to convert the mains current to 12v, 24v, 36v DC in order to run the LED lamps.

Aside from being expensive, it is just timeconsuming and difficult. This is no longer the case thanks to Frontline LED's revolutionary LED Direct Connect system, which has made our LED products perfectly suited to retro-fit and new-build installations.

Using cutting edge engineering Frontline LED's LED Direct Connect range are units that will connect directly to the AC mains out-of-the-box. Saving you time and money.

Installations

TESCO Ireland

In 2009 Frontline LED won three tenders to supply Tesco Ireland with LED lighting for retro-fits in car parking, delivery and display lighting.

Working with Tesco Ireland, Frontline LED helped them to achieve over 75% savings on power consumption in their car park, delivery yard, loading bays and their display spotlighting.

Tesco Ireland installed over 110 FLF-030s in loading bays nationwide. They also installed a range of FLF-090s, FLS-090 and FLS-060 in car parks and delivery roads across Irish stores like Ballinasloe, Newcastle-West and others.

Tesco Merrion and Tesco Clarehall also installed FL-3818 LED spotlights with Track Lighting adapters cutting the power consumption per unit from 70w to 18w.

In 2010 we are working with Tesco on a new build store to supply FL-T418 LED tubes as well as FLF floodlights and FLS streetlights with LED Direct Connect.

Using 1190mm of FL-B24 LED bars to replace 4ft 36w fluorescent tubes, Vodafone and DCS were able to remove fluorescent pelmet lighting and cut consumption by 60%

Punchestown RacecourseIreland's famous Punchestown Racecourse recently installed 20 FL-D7020 downlights in the Presidential Suit of the Hunt Stand. Going for LED instead of 2x26w downlights is saving €3,000 alone on this install.

University College CorkIn partnership with Medlocks Ireland in 2010 Frontline supplied 12 FL-D7020 downlights for newly opened laboratories in Universit College Cork.

Cork Institute of TechnologyAlso in partnership with Medlocks Ireland, Frontline has supplied 44 FLF-090 Floodlights for CIT replacing external 400w Sont lighting at a saving of 75%.

Galway ClinicThe Galway Clinic, a private hospital, has begun working with Frontline on a pilot installation of our FL-T518 units to assess a potential LED retro-fit in their hospital. Thus far our units (representing a 60% saving) have been installed.
