About the SpeakerDr. Beverly J. Robinson

Dr. Beverly J. Robinson is Vice President for EnrollmentManagement and Student Affairs at Albany State University.She was previously the Provost at Palm Beach Community Col-lege, the first African-American in this position. As Provost, Dr.Robinson was responsible for the Western Region of PalmBeach County. She had overall responsibility for the daily op-eration of the Belle Glade campus, which housed a 466-seat per-forming arts theatre. Dr. Robinson was also responsible formanaging four off-campus sites, including a technical educa-tion center.

Dr. Robinson also served as Associate Vice President for Ed-ucational Centers and Community Development at CentralFlorida Community College in Ocala, Florida, where she hadadministrative oversight of the Hampton Community Outreachand Preventive Health Center and the University Center,which housed bachelor’s and master’s degree programs for 10state universities. She was responsible for college-wide diversity initiatives, government re-lations (serving as the legislative lobbyist for CFCC) and community development. She wasthe first African-American lobbyist for the Community College System in Florida. Dr. Robin-son was the driving force behind the development of the present Hampton Community Out-reach and Preventive Health Center. The center served the preventive health and educationand training needs of CFCC’s three county service area.

She has received numerous awards and in 2007 was the recipient of Success magazine’s“25 Most Influential and Prominent African-American Women in South Florida Award.” Dr.Robinson was the first African-American appointed by the late Florida Gov. Lawton Chiles toserve on the Commission for Education Reform and Accountability.

Dr. Robinson is best known for her ability to assess and successfully implement exem-plary programs at rural branch campuses and revitalize distressed communities. She workedsuccessfully with the sugar industries to develop the Sugar Technology Institute, the onlyprogram of its kind in North America where students can earn an Associate Degree in SugarTechnology, a Community College Certificate in Milling or a Community College Certificatein Processing.

Dr. Robinson has served as an adjunct faculty member at Lake-Sumter Community Col-lege and Florida Community College at Jacksonville. She is presently on the graduate fac-ulty of Webster University.

The youngest of ten children, Dr. Robinson has one biological son – Minister Cleveland E.Robinson, II, a recording artist and author who resides in Nashville, Tennessee – and twoadopted sons – David, a senior at FSU majoring in concert piano and biology, and Frederic,who lives in Atlanta, Georgia.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS SPECIAL PRESENTATIONSThe Irene C. and O.C. George Scholarship in the amount of $2,100 is presented to one full-time student from the

College of Business and one full-time student from the College of Education in his/her junior year with a minimum

GPA of 3.0 who graduated from a high school in Albany, GA, or Metro Atlanta. Irene C. and O.C. George are both

graduates of Albany State in Education and Business Administration. Artexas Davis, daughter and scholarship admin-

istrator, is also an Albany State alumna. All are former resident of Albany, GA. Each scholarship recipient will receive

$1,050.
