race day information oFF island runners: Runners and spectators staying off-island
are urged to arrive no laTER THan 6:30aM To aVoiD MiSSinG
THE 8 aM RaCE STaRT. Runners will be directed to parking areas near
FreshfieldsVillageandshuttledtotheracestartviamotorcoach.Shuttle
buses begin at 5:30am.
on island runners: Runners staying on Kiawah island are strongly
advised to use the provided shuttle service or to walk to the race start.
The shuttle will depart every 10 minutes from the Straw Market (for
West Beach Village guests) and at the Sea forest Drive entrance to
Mariners Watch Villas (night Heron Cottages, Windswept and Mariners
Watch villas) beginning at 5:30am. Guests staying past the Vanderhorst
GatemayparkinthesoccerfieldsatNightHeronPark,thenwalktothe
race start via the bike path.
breakFast: Town Center Market located at the race venue will be
open the entire weekend. on race morning, breakfast will start at 6am.
The Market also offers a wide variety of grocery items, sandwiches, pizza,
beverages and wireless internet.
race startPersonal artiCle storaGe: Tents for article storage are
located on either side of the finish line. Markers and masking tape are
available to label your items. Please note this tent is unsupervised; refrain
from leaving valuables.
raCe start: Race start is located on Sea forest Drive between The
Sanctuary entrance and East Beach Conference Center entrance. Please
line up by pace. Race starts promptly at 8am!
PaCers: Therewillbeeightdifferentpacegroups,rangingfromafinish
goal of 3:15 hours to 5 hours. Pacers will be throughout the starting line
to help organize runners. Please be considerate to others by lining up
accordingly.
race Course informationWater stations: Water, Gatorade, oranges, bananas and port-o-
lets will be located approximately every two miles, as well as at the start
andfinishlines.AteachAidStation,volunteerswillhandoutwaterfirst
and Gatorade second. Volunteers distributing Gatorade will be wearing
yellow jerseys.
Course: The course will be marked with signs, chalk and race
monitors. Digital clocks will be placed at key mile markers for split times.
droP Zones: new for 2013 Help keep waste out of our wetlands and
forest. This year we are initiating Drop Zones for your trash. immediately
following each water station you will see a ‘Drop Zone’ sign followed
by an ‘End Drop Zone’ sign. We ask that all cups, fruit peels, GU packets,
clothing, etc. be deposited only in these areas. Consolidating trash on the
course will ensure that nothing escapes into our natural environment. We
greatly appreciate your help in protecting Kiawah’s wildlife!
MediCal: Medical personnel from Trident Sports Medicine, Charleston
CountyandRoperSt.Franciswillbeavailableatthefinishlinemedical
tent and on the course to assist any runner in case of an emergency.
Post-race informationresults: Half Marathon and full Marathon results will be posted at
the finish line Celebration Tent. Results will also be posted on Kiawah-
Marathon.com & rmssports.com.
Finish line Celebration: There will be a fantastic finish line
Celebration featuring a carb re-load buffet, beer and live entertainment
by Unkle funkle. The complimentary buffet is available to bibbed runners
only - please keep bib visible. Wrist bands for beer can be purchased ($5)
for non-runners at the info table adjacent to the beer trailer.
aWard CereMonies: inside the finish line tent, friends and family
members are welcome to join runners at 11:30am for the Half Marathon
awards ceremony and 1:30pm for the full Marathon awards ceremony.
lost & Found: for articles lost in and around the race venue, please
check at the information/t-shirt pick-up desk in the lobby of the EBCC.
To claim articles that are lost or left on the course, please go to the
nature Center at night Heron Park beginning Sunday at 8:45am. Call
843.768.6001 for information.
runPiX.CoM: 2013 race results will be entered into the Runpix
system to provide innovative post-race statistics. This link will be available
on KiawahMarathon.com beginning the evening of December 14th.
