WATER, WATER, EVERYWHERE… With Slip’n’Slide, water cannons, and misters, campers didn’t even notice the record-break- ing temperatures this week! In fact, you might say that it’s never hot at Coleman Country! Campers Noah, James, Wyatt, and Josh in B1-5, The Branders, were doused in water fun as they slipped and slid their way across Coleman Yards. Vol. XXXI No. 6 July 19, 2013 Fun Soaks The Ranch! It is sure to be a GOAL! when soccer superstar Abby Wambach “heads” to The Ranch this Monday. How lucky are we to have a two-time Olympic gold medalist and the FIFA World Player of the Year to join us. A forward for the United States women's national soccer team, she is the highest all- time international goal scorer for both female and male soccer players with 160 goals. Campers can’t wait to challenge Abby in a penalty kick shoot-out! They hope to “get one past Abby” and score a goal, in addition to hearing about how she set goals for herself! Parents will be able to “check out” the excitement with all the media catching the highlights and plenty of photos from our own media coverage. Gettin’ Kicks With Abby You know the saying... “It never rains at Coleman Country,” well... “It’s never hot at Coleman Country!” Campers and Pardners kept cool all week long! The arsenal of water cannons were in high gear each day as campers ran, jumped, and danced beneath them to get wet. Multiple swims, the misters, the water park, bumper boats, and ice-cold water fountains were also great sources of comfort. Scheduled stops for activities at the air-conditioned Grand Play- house, Palace Theater, and Pike’s Peak (gymnastics) were hotspots (or should we say cool spots) with basketball, volleyball, martial arts, and Macho’s Mountain all in action. It was an adventure on Monday for sixth graders who spent the day at Adventureland. Our week also kicked off with Pioneer Visiting during the day as campers showcased some of their skills in and out of the water. Parent Visiting Nights this week for Scout and Explorer groups ended with a ritual Pow-Wow on the field where campers from each group presented a poster that demonstrated what they have done to “Be the Difference!” Visiting continues next week. Tuesday started with an earlier than usual wake up for campers on the optional Pocono Party overnight as they headed to their first stop, Camelbeach. After a full day at the “beach,” campers contin- ued on to Great Wolf Lodge. Wednesday was wet ‘n’ wild at the hotel’s huge indoor water park, followed by a dinner and a show at Medieval Times. B/G 7 spent part of the day on Thursday at Dave and Busters. They arrived back at The Ranch with more than they left with – carrying stuffed animals, small cuddly creatures, and other assorted items! Our week concluded with our annual Frivolous Friday. Mis- matched socks, wild-looking outfits, kooky clothes, and colorful and creative hairstyles roamed The Ranch. Prizes were awarded to campers who displayed unique, imaginative, and crazy accessories. As the water cannons formed flumes overhead, water was sprayed and the new huge mats were rolled out onto the fields today as music played, campers danced, dove, and slid their way down the waterway. Pardners were slippin’ and slidin’ on the Field of Dreams and Coleman Yards! Coleman Campers in B 6/7/8 are staying at The Ranch today for dinner before they head out to Citifield to watch the Mets take on the Phillies. Parent pick up is tonight at 11 pm at The Ranch. Camp doesn’t have to end at dusk! The lights on the field go on, and all campers in third grade and above have their chance to take advantage of camp after hours by returning to The Ranch for a night of scheduled activities. Check the schedule to see when it is your camper’s assigned turn!
