The concept of “flavor physics” was introduced in the 1970s

Rev.Mod.Phys. 81, 1887 (2009)

Many projects for the next decade:b-Physicst-Physicscharm-PhysicsKaon-Physicsm-Physics

No projects foreseen for very long term. The future of Flavor Physics will depend on the results of the next years

CP violation

The nightmare The dream

Summer 2013

Possible scenarios in 10-15 years from now

Depending on results there may be a case for a further luminosity increase by a factor 10 of SuperKEKB

feasibility of a further luminosity upgrade must be considered based on the actual experience at SuperKEKBNo concrete idea at the moment Possibility to precisely measure channels that can only be observed at SuperKEKB: e.g. B → K(*) n n R&D will be needed also for the detector

t Physics Lepton Flavor Violation in t decays

About 2.8s from SM prediction = (0.36 ± 0.01)% (due to CPV in kaon sector)

CP Violation in t decay with Ks in the final state

From SM :

BaBar: PRD 85 031102 (2012)

CPV violation in t is expected to be tested at 0.01 % in Belle II

Kaon Physics

The goal of KOTO is to observe the decay K

L → p0 n n with the sensitivity

of the Standard Model prediction (2.49 ± 0.39) 10-11, and search for new physics beyond the Standard Model.

KOTO experiment: up to 2019

NA62 experiment: data taken starts in 2014

Measurement of the very rare kaon decay K+→ p+ n n at the CERN SPS to extract a 10% measurement of the CKM parameter |Vtd|.Aims to collect about 80 K+→ p+ n n events at the SM prediction with a signal to background ratio of 10:1 in two years of data taking.
