How many Lumens?Ask the right questions and get the facts.

HIDAs anybody interested in driving lights knows, there is a large number of HID lights and kits on today’s market. What was almost voodoo technology a few years ago has made its way into Ebay and bargain bin culture. A vast number of HID products from China and Asia have flooded the market with items that range in quality from terrible to reasonable. Cold hard reality these kits and components are sold for as low as $20-30 USD or even cheaper on web sites such as Alibaba. An example is here> You may even spot the product orcomponent you are looking at.

What is inside the HID kit or light you purchased? We believe however that some resellers and worse, driving light companies are misrepresenting the actual performance ratings in either ignorance or marketing ‘hype’ via totally incorrect calculations. The nett result is the same... Customers are spending hard earned money on lights that are clearly misrepresented in lumen output.

FYRLYT believes enthusiasts have a right to know...

35W, 50W, 70W HID? What are you really getting? On HIDs, All 35 watt units measure watts out of ballast to lamp, OEM or Aftermarket (China). Note input to 35watt units is approx 42 watts. Average lumen output = 2800 /3200L. All HIDs above 35W eg /50W /70W measure input to ballast not output therefore to get watts to the lamp x 80% (ballast losses) to get approx watts. NOTE: Most Chinese HID bulbs are in the range of 75/85 lumen/watts compared to German 90 lumen/watts.

35W is approximately 42w input resulting in 35w to lamp with average lumen output of 2800/3200 Lumens50W input x 80% ballast efficiency= 40w to lamp x approx 85 Lumen / watts (China) = 3400 Lumen output70W input x 80% ballast efficiency= 56w to lamp x approx 85 Lumen / watts (China) = 4750 Lumens outputFYRLYT 150W = 5000 Lumens of proven reliable German quality. Additional benefit of low bulb cost & simplicity.

Performance, versatility and durability... In one.

Consider what really makes a good driving light?

Remember, a lights output is the SUM of its PARTS!

FYRLYT is deliberately not HID or LED... Read on.

Just like cars and trucks there are many choices for different uses. FYRLYT has designed a single hyper performance driving light with ®distance without sacrificing all important volume. Our German xenophot bulb produces a light source to maximize driving safety with

consideration to minimizing glare to combat eye fatigue over long distances often experienced by professional drivers and travelers.

A driving light is not a spotlight. Nothing is more irritating or worse, fatiguing, than driving behind a bouncing column of light even if you believe it can light up a kangaroo or a moose at 1 mile as the salesman excitedly told you or a well meaning internet forum poster is claiming. It is not what is at the end of a ‘laser beam’ that you should be concerned about! Let’s get back to basics. Your vision at night is compromised and indeed as you get older that condition increases commensurately with age. At an average cruising speed of between 55-70MPH (85-110kmh) what is important is the effective illumination in the immediate 500 yards (450m) in your field of vision to hopefully give you enough time to react to a ‘situation’ of not what is just in front of you but to the side as well. To design a quality light output that has distance and peripheral volume to that distance is quite a task. Our tuned reflector and bulb delivers what we believe to be the ideal driving light in all areas and beyond with no compromise. No bright hot spots or harsh glare... Just quality.

This is where many people are often misled by advertising hype based on misinformation at a rudimentary technical level. You cannot deny the laws of physics and it is within this reality that FYRLYT designs its products.

1: BULB (incandescent, HID or LED - All very different!)2: REFLECTOR (shape, thermal tolerance, reflectivity and durability)3: OPTICS (lens & other surfaces - optical values and durability)

It is possible to have a high output bulb with a compromised reflector and or lens/filter design that results in poor light output performance for the task of driving. Additionally, product durability is defined by the housing and mount design, materials and manufacturing. FYRLYT chooses a pragmatic design approach on combining all relevant features into the best possible design and outcome for a specific purpose.

Surprised? Our design team was set a high standard to achieve... ”Simply create a halogen light that will outperform HID & LED in the form of a hyper-performance driving light. Not just distance, but volume and quality of light for long periods of driving.” The end result is one we believe has set a new benchmark.FYRLYT has shown that you can get the simplicity and reliability of Halogen with better than HID performance and of course the associated cost savings. It is now time for the market to decide.

HID is a case of buyer beware. Ask questions! We are not saying HID is a bad choice and indeed we do not rule out the possibility of utilizing it if it were to offer a superior lighting solution. We have examined many HID ballasts and bulbs that commonly originate from Asia whilst noting a widely held point of view amongst experts and forums that the quality is a bit "hit and miss"; with ballasts malfunctioning, bulb colour temperature variants and problematic bulb arc points and corresponding profiles.

Photos that tell quite a story...We appreciate some maybe skeptical about our claims and that included many of our first customers in Australia. Truck drivers and experienced 4wders were often steadfast in what many of them believed about driving light performance, especially in HID and the recent increase in wattage offerings, 50W and 70W. Some refused to believe that FYRLYT could match their larger sized reflector lights in light output and distance. We can only do so much in print or photos etc and the reality is perception is subjective. However, without fail, people who see FYRLYT in operation for the first time are generally overwhelmed and find it hard to comprehend the quality of light, distance and volume.

Shootout & ConclusionsWe took a series of photos opposite to compare FYRLYTagainst what many people consider premium driving lightsrenowned for performance. At a distance of 60 meters (65yds)we aimed a single unit of each @ 14V. Remember the 24V 150WFYRLYT is easily run on a 12V system using our DC-DC convertor.Remembering these are single units, it is easy to see the broadvolume of light from the FYRLYT in comparison to the very tightspot of the others. The FYRLYT is in its SPOT mode with the option to change to SPREAD with a push and twist of the bulb holder in seconds. Remember the 150W FYRLYT is a true 5000lumen output.

Why does FYRLYT havemore volume & intensity? It’s the combination of the horizontal filament bulb with the filament tuned reflector and optics. Too tight a spot with a defined edge is very fatiguing to drive behind for any length of time. Our design team designed the output to meet all vital criteria that professional drivers and enthusiasts have been asking for and will really appreciate.

Many assume that HIDwould be a clear winner?Going back to our information on HID ratings you can see that the HID lumen ratings from 35/50/70W actually achieved are still less than the 5000 lumens we are utilizing. Therefore to be blunt the answer is NO. What confuses some people is the effect of glare and the fact of looking into an HID type light source is typically blinding. Additionally the misconception of whiter light being more effective which does not withstand scientific or physiological scrutiny. Once past 4300K you are in an area of advertising hype and diminishing returns. As the designer and manufacturer we are naturally very firm inour convictions relying on sound research and never being afraidto ask questions and listen to the market. By challenging the status quo we believe we are offering a product of extraordinaryperformance and long term value.

150W? Power draw? The reality is a pair of 150W bulbs will draw 300W and some people will decree the sky is falling! The reality isthe majority of vehicles can manage this with no issue.Consider how many vehicles you see with 3 or even more 100W lights? This mind set may have once been relevant but times have moved on since old fashioneddynamos and early generators.

150W too hot? Really? Yes, high wattage halogen bulbs generate heat and in any light with a plastic reflector or lesser engineered materials or design you will have issues with high thermal loads. However, FYRLYT was engineered from the ground up to operate in these conditions without issue. Additionally our German 150W 5000 lumen bulb has 30% more Lumens/Watt than generic halogen. Fact not fiction.

FYRLYT Lights are Rebuildable • We want you as a customer for life on or off road!

The Filament Tuned Reflector FTR has been geometrically optimised to realise the full potential of the Luminous Flux produced by the light source, directing more light where it is needed. Manufactured from aluminium with a robust base and hard top coat, the FYRLYT reflector possesses exceptionally high spectral reflectance whilst being scratch, chemical and heat resistant.

The lens has been designed to be readily replaceable without tools, making lens covers redundant. With FYRLYT the lens and cover are one and the same. This eliminates the compounding light losses induced by the 2 redundant plastic to air surface transitions that come with transparent lens covers. This with the reduction in operating temperature is valuable in maximising light performance. The simple lens removal also allows for the bulb to be changed from the front of the light if the mounting limits rear access.

Management of the operating temperature of high performance lights is crucial. FYRLYT has integrated a quick release system for fast bulb change with a high performance aluminum alloy heat sink, manufactured from T6060-T5. This feature is an essential component in facilitating the use of high performance light sources whilst maintaining acceptable operating temperatures.

The Integrated Spread or Spot beam, provides two factory set beam patterns in the one light that can be adjusted to suit the driving conditions in seconds by pushing and rotating the bulb holder.

® The Gore Vent breather reduces the possibility of water ingress when operated in moist air whilst paradoxically providing a seal if the light is submerged. This is achieved by its breathing characteristics which provides a means to maintain a near to equilibrium air pressure to that of ambient by releasing pressure caused by the temperature rise when the light is in use. Conversely it allows an inflow of air when it cools to eliminate the creation of a significant vacuum within the light.

The billet machined Aluminum Alloy (T6060-T5) base maintains its impact strength at extremely low temperatures unlike some metals and plastics, whilst providing exceptional resistance to vibration. This ensures the light maintains the set position in the most adverse operating conditions. In addition it provides infinitely variable adjustment within a 25mm (1.0") range.

The hard coating applied to both the lens and reflector optical surfaces provides improved chemical and scratch resistance to the base materials, maximising the longevity of the optical performance of the light. When comparing other lights, ask if their reflector and lens are hard coated?

The fasteners and spring in FYRLYT are manufactured from austenitic stainless steels for optimum corrosion resistance. FYRLYT considers every potential scenario and utilizes the best grade of materials for durability.

FYRLYT, side by side with our friends & family on

and off-road. Heading beyond 50,000 plus strong! From the outset FYRLYT was destined to be different. After more combined years in the industry than we care to admit to,it continues to evolve in a way that never ceases to amaze us and others. We concluded it is the result of one dynamic. That of sharing a common passion that unites all regardless of location or culture. Yes we have a business to run and with it many default challenges but what empowers us is the real value of relationships and becoming the product of choice to the informed enthusiast who is seeking the best possible auxiliary lighting for their vehicle. We only began the Facebook fan page as our virtual camp’ FYR’ in April 2011 and yet by November 2011 we are expecting to be at 50,000+. Not a ‘typo’... Fifty thousand plus! There will always be room for you BUT bring your own marshmallows... Oh yes, meet Mr Benson...

35W is actually 42W input resulting in 35W to lamp with average lumen output of 2800/3200 Lumens50W input x 80% ballast efficiency= 40W to lamp x approx 85% Lumen/Watts (China) = 3400 Lumen output70W input x 80% ballast efficiency= 56W to lamp x approx 85% Lumen/Watts (China) = 4750 Lumens outputFYRLYT’s 150W Xenophot = 5000 Lumens output

But don’t forget, this is just the light source! Final achieved output is its relationship with the reflector and optics.
