From Planning to Execution – How to Ensure Your Strategy is Actionable

“Without strategy, execution is aimless. Without execution, strategy is useless” . It does not matter how much time and effort we spend in developing the best strategic plan ever. If we don’t consider execution while we develop it our likelihood of success will be dramatically impacted. This is what I will talk about, how we need to incorporate execution into our strategic planning process to drive results. From engaging all the right partners at the right time to assessing the readiness to assimilate change and execute. This presentation will be a brief journey along what I’ve seen works in a fast-pace environment that we live in today.

De-broing Your Brand

For many young tech companies, moving from the start-up bubble to the mainstream presents a common branding problem: how to make a company that was once the sole domain of a handful of men in their mid-twenties into something that resonates with a diverse range of consumers and employees, without sacrificing authenticity. Looking at cases from across the industry and drawing on lessons learned at SoundCloud, this talk will answer the question: how can we de-bro our brand?

In January of 2013, Molly assumed the role of VP, Contractor Sales after 18 years of diverse experiences across multiple functions and businesses. Currently, she is responsible for leading the commercial strategy that focuses on influencing end users for the primary customers. Career Strategies: Success in Challenging Industries

Strategy, what does it really mean? Simply, it a carefully devised plans of action to achieve a goal. Successful companies invest time and money to develop a well formulated strategy. Successful careers must also have a strategy. The key to a business successful strategy is to be keenly aware of relevant markets, future trends, and competitors. They must also have self awareness of their strengths and weaknesses. And lastly, companies need to stay true to their core principles. As you manage your career, the same principles should exist. Building personal strategies in industries can be particularly challenging. I will share my insights and experiences as an executive in the construction industry, where less than 10% are women, and even less at the executive level.

She has over 10 years of early phase and post-marketing drug development experience spanning across the medical device and pharmaceutical industries. Dr. Parham has held consulting and senior leadership roles in medical affairs, business development and project management within major research-based companies. She has experience as an attending physician within major academic anesthesia departments, including Harvard Medical School, Tufts University and Boston University.

Balancing Strategy & Operational Excellence

Facing loss of patent exclusivity and increasing challenges in regulatory approval the pharmaceutical industry has had to rethink its strategy for success. Operationally optimizing how work gets done and focusing on managing limited resources is not enough. Having a linked R&D and commercial strategy along with operational excellence is critical in the post blockbuster era. Strategic thinking cannot be isolated to just senior leadership; from individual contributors to teams it should permeate the entire organization. To move from hypothesis to the creation of a new drug requires developing a scientific strategy, a commercial blueprint and focused operations.

The Death of Sales, and the Rise of Customer Focused Strategies and Solutions

Sales as we know it is dead. Coffee is no longer for closers. Our customers are well educated about our products and services, know all of the features and benefits, and unless you can challenge them to think differently, your product is a commodity and can no longer command the premium price it once did. How do we change our strategy to create and market our products and solutions to meet the demands of the new normal? How do we create a companywide culture focused on solving the problems of our customers? How do we create scalable solutions that will solve the problems of our entire customer base, and not just one key customer? The world has changes dramatically over the past decade, and the trend will continue. Our customers will be more and more empowered with information, and thus our strategy to meet their new needs will have to continue to evolve. We will discuss how to create a sustainable customer focused strategy that leverages the core competencies of your company to sustain profitability in this new environment.

Barriers to strategy implementation and why they exist in companies and departments (culture, process, policy). How you can identify them, and moreover, how to climb over, knock down or … walk around them. My personal perspective from Philips.

The New Woman Venture Investor

We’re entering a golden age of the Woman Venture Investor. Successful Women VC’s are starting venture firms at unprecedented levels. Women in angel groups doubled over the past year. And women Influencers and Consumers are coming together as investors around companies, teams and products they believe in, using their social networks to help them capture markets. As more women leverage their financial and social power to green light and grow companies, they’re doing it in distinctively different ways. Expect to see an expanded view of success, and new entrepreneurial icons beyond the engineer in a hoodie. This is good for women individually, for entrepreneurs and the economy. This session explores how we can engage, grow and benefit—as influencers, investors or entrepreneurs--as women step up to back and invest in companies they believe in.

Brand Evolution: Driving Strategy and Transformational Change Through Culture

For a brand to last through the test of time, it has to evolve with its consumers yet stay true to the legacy the brand was built upon. Evolution, or more plainly said, change, is difficult, especially when the magnitude of change on a company is transformational. Omnichannel, the concept of enabling customers to interact with your company anytime, anywhere, on any device for anything is the latest transformational change retailers must master. At Saks Fifth Avenue, the intersection between strategy and change is developing the right culture.

It's a New Dawn, It's a New Day, It's a New Life and I am Woman

Women needs are considered in the marketing plans. At the same time Women identity is innovating… Their perception of life is changing. It’s a new dawn,it’s a new life style… We are going through a Speed and Technology Era, Environmental challenges, Scarcities… Colonies in Space Projects… It’s a new world… How are we going to shape our future? What should women do now to drive and to make that change? Let’s think about it in Women in Strategy Summit.

Emi has a BA in International Studies from Middlebury College, a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University School of International Affairs (SIPA), and an MBA from Columbia Business School. She loves living and working in her mountain hometown of Asheville, North Carolina.

Mothers Hard at Work: A Modern World Dilemma

As a natural baby products company that believes in breastfeeding and attachment parenting, we constantly strive to maintain a balance for our working parents, especially mothers of newborn infants. Although staffing through cycles of pregnancy, maternity or paternity leave and return to work poses a challenge to both small and large organizations, we view this challenge as an opportunity. In traditional cultures, new mothers’ work included caring for their children; however, it was not limited to this – they had many other tasks to complete at the same time. We believe that as a company, we can create new ways of working that not only support, but also leverage the gifts of working mothers.
