Universal Electronics General Information Training

IntroductionoThis presentation was created as a general guideline for

several topics that are important for UEI Production

Employees to know and understand

oYour Department Supervisor will provide additional training

to help you succeed in your specific work area(s)

TopicsoGood Documentation Practice (GDP)

oStatistical Quality Control (SQC) Data Entry

oIdentifying Material

oFirst in, First out (FIFO)

oMaterial Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)

oReduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS)

oTool Calibration

oElectrostatic Discharge (ESD) Log

Good Documentation Practice (GDP)

oDefinition of GDP

oWhy Do We Need It?

Good Documentation Practice (GDP)How to Correct Mistakes Using GDP:

1: Draw a Single Line through the mistake

2: Write correction nearby

3: Initial and Date the correction

Good Documentation Practice (GDP)If space is an issue, use the Footnote Method:

1: Draw a Single Line through mistake

2: Near mistake, draw a “1” with a circle around it

3: Somewhere there is more room on the page, draw the circled numeral you chose earlier

4: Write correction next to footnote

5: Initial and date correction

Good Documentation Practice (GDP)Other Important GDP Facts:

oBlue or Black ink is Required on all UEI documentation

oThere are two correct ways to sign UEI documents:

-your full first and last name (John Smith)

OR

-the first initial of your first name AND full last name (J. Smith)

SQC Data Entry

oDefinition of SQC

oWhy Do We Need It?

SQC Data Entry – Form

SQC Data Entry - Defects

Material IdentificationoAll material used at UEI is identified through the use of a label or bin card (Component ID labels, Receiving Labels and Bin Cards)

oLead-Free (RoHS) material is identified with Green labels

oIt is important that the identification labels remain with the components and assemblies throughout the manufacturing process

Material IdentificationoIf material is unmarked or doesn’t match the label, bring the non-conforming material to your Supervisor’s attention. Use a Non-conforming Material Report (NMR) and Red Reject Tag to mark the material

oNon-conforming material that is RoHS must still be marked with Green labels. An additional Red Reject Tag shall be attached along with RoHS-identifying tags and labels

FIFO

oDefinition of FIFO

oWhy Do We Need It?

FIFO

oWho Must Follow FIFO? EVERYONE!

oPull Materials from:

Left to Right Front to Back

MSDS

oDefinition of MSDS

oWhy Do We Need It?

MSDS – Labeling and ExpirationAt UEI, the MSDS Log can be found near the Stockroom

Check For the Following before using a Chemical:

oLegibility of the label (can you read it?)

oExpiration Date on label

NOTE:

If Expiration date is two numbers, it is the month and year (6/16)

If date has three numbers, it is the month, day, and year (6/15/16)

If label is unreadable or the item is expired,

DO NOT USE - Give item to Supervisor!

RoHS

oDefinition of RoHS

oWhy Do We Need It?

RoHSRoHS and Leaded (PB) assemblies must stay separate from each other!

UEI uses many ways to label and identify RoHS material and work areas, using the color Green:

oGreen Anti-static mats

oGreen Bin Cards

oGreen tape on tools

Tool Calibration

oDefinition of Calibration

oWhy Do We Need It?

Tool CalibrationHere are just a few things that are Calibrated at UEI:

oSolder Irons

oESD workstation mats

oScales

oGauges

oVoltage Meters

Tool CalibrationoCheck for Calibration stickers on your work tools before you start a job

oIf a tool calibration is expired, DO NOT USE the tool

oNotify your Supervisor of the expired calibration immediately

ESD

oDefinition of ESD

oWhy Do We Need It?

ESDSome examples of what UEI uses to prevent ESD damage to our products:

oWrist Straps

oShoe Grounds

oESD workstation mats

oSpecial Floor coating

ESD

oUEI’s Policy and Procedures require us to test

our wrist and heel straps Daily - And they Must

Pass - before handling ESD-sensitive items

oBe sure to Sign off on ESD Log before leaving

the Testing area

ESDIf your wrist or heel straps fail the Daily test:

oEnsure inner straps are making good contact with your skin

Note: DO NOT cut the inner straps, it can effect how they work!

oUse Antistatic lotion (provided) on wrist and/or ankles

oThoroughly dry the bottoms of your shoes if they are wet

oReplace old or worn straps (contact your Supervisor)

Summary

The topics discussed today all play an important part in

the success of our company.

It takes everyone working together to make UEI great!
