Over more than 165 years, Geneva has developed a rich history of traditions. We love sharing the stories of our past, just as we love having students take part in creating today’s campus culture. Come to Geneva and add your story to the collection.

The Golden TornadoesGeneva sports teams were originally nicknamed the Covenanters, or “Covies,” a tribute to the school’s scottish Presbyterian heritage. In the 1920s, however, a new moniker began appearing in student newspaper articles. some attribute the change to a statement made by Geneva College’s Football Hall of Fame Coach Bo McMillin, who described opponent Georgia tech’s powerful offense as “a golden tornado.” Other legends say the name comes from an actual tornado that supposedly ripped through Beaver Valley and took the gold-colored roof off of Old Main in the early 1900s. But regardless of where the nickname came from, students love the mascot turbo and cheering on their Golden tornadoes.

My Generation Night (MGN)MGN is the annual student talent showcase described by many students as the most anticipated event of the year.

The Big “G”Able to be seen from nearly everywhere on campus, a giant white “G” the size of a four-story building overlooks Reeve’s Field from a hillside across the Beaver River.

Film Feststudents dress to the nines for this annual red-carpet event featuring movies written, directed, filmed and cast by Geneva students.

The Victory BellOnce used to signal class changes, team captains now ring this bell in Old Main to announce their team’s victory.
