    Whenyoupurchaseadedicatedserver,youareactuallyleasingaserverbox,whichyoucanconfigureandsetupaccordingtoyourpreferences,thatisphysicallylocatedatourdatacenter.

    SECURITY INFORMATION Comparedtosharedhostingaccounts,adedicatedserveroffersmorepowerandmoreversatility.Youcanrunandinstallvirtuallyanythingonyourserver.However,withthisaddedcontrolcomesaddedresponsibility.

    Youareresponsibleforthesecurity,backup,andmaintenanceofyourowndedicatedserver.Wedonotbackuporinstallfirewallsonyourdedicatedserver.

    REPROVISIONING YOUR SERVER If,atanytime,youwanttoreverttoacleansetuponyourdedicatedserver,youcanreprovisionyourserver.Reprovisioningerasesallofthecontentonyourserverharddrive.Yourserverreturnstothestateitwasinwhenyoufirstpurchasedit.

    YoucanreprovisionyourserverusingtheDedicatedHostingManager.

    2. UnderHosting&Email,selectDedicated/VirtualDedicatedServers.

    3. ClickLaunchManagernexttotheserveryouwanttoreprovision.YourDedicatedHostingManageropens.

    4. UnderSupport,clickReprovisionServer.TheReprovisionServerpagedisplays.

    5. Ifyouchooseto,enteranewhostnameandusername.Thesevaluesdefaulttothecurrenthostnameandusernameforthisaccount.

    6. Enterandconfirmanewpassword,andthenclickContinue.

    Youwillreceiveaconfirmationnoticeonceyourserverisreprovisionedandreadytogo.Typically,yourserverisreadyinlessthanfivehours.

    CHOOSING A HOST NAME, USER ID, AND PASSWORD ThefirsttimeyouaccessyourDedicatedHostingManager,youllneedtocreateahostname,userID,andpasswordforyourserver.ThisistheuserIDandpasswordthatyouwillusetoconnecttoyourserverinthefuture.ItsagoodideatohavethisinformationreadywhenyoulogintoyourManagerforthefirsttime.

    Choosing a Host Name Theservershostname(alsoknownasyouraccountname)isauniquenameforyourserver.Ifyouhavemultiplededicatedserveraccounts,yourhostnameswillhelpyoudifferentiatebetweentheminyouraccountlist.Yourhostnamecanbeanything,aslongasitmeetsthefollowingrequirements.

    YourHostname: mustcontainbetween315characters. muststartwithaletter. canonlycontainletters,numbers,singledots,orsingledashes. cannotstartorendwithasingledotordash. cannotincludeanyspacesoranyotherspecialcharacters.

    Choosing a User ID YouruserIDistheprimaryIDthatyouusetoaccessyourserver.ThisistheuserIDthatyouusetoaccessyourserverfromanSSHorSCPprogram.

    YouruserIDcanbebetween4and32lowercasealphanumericcharacters.YouruserIDcannot:

    beginwithanumber.

    containspaces.

    containsymbols.

    containcapitalletters.

    OurdedicatedserversalsohavealistofreservedtermsthatyoucannotuseasauserID.Thesetermsarelistedbelow.

    Choosing a Password for Your Server Thisisthepasswordthatyouuse,alongwithyouruserID,toconnecttoyourserver.Thisisalsothepasswordthatyouusewhenyouusethesu - rootcommandtogainrootaccesstoyourserver.

    Tokeepyourserversecure,werequireastrongpasswordforyouraccount.Astrongpasswordisapasswordthat:

    containsbetween714characters.

    ismadeupoflowercaseletters,uppercaseletters,andnumbers.

    doesnotbeginwithanumberorsymbol.

    doesnotcontainbackslashes,colons,singlequotes,doublequotes,spaces,dollarsigns($),ampersands(&),orthecaretsymbol(^).

    doesnotcontainyourusernameorthewordadmin.

    LOGGING IN TO YOUR MANAGER FOR THE FIRST TIME Onceyouvedecidedonahostname,userID,andpasswordforyourdedicatedserver,youcanlogintoyourDedicatedHostingManagerandfinishsettingitup.

    } To Finish Setting Up Your Dedicated Server Account 1. LogintoyourAccountManager.

    2. UnderHosting&Email,selectDedicated/VirtualDedicatedServers.

    3. Nexttothededicatedserveraccountyouwanttosetup,clickSetupAccount.

    4. OntheAccountSetuppage,enterthehostnameforyourserveraccount.

    5. Enteryourusernameandpasswordforyouraccount.

    6. ClickContinue.

    7. ConfirmyoursettingsandclickSubmit.

    OnceyouclickSubmit,yourservershouldbereadytouseinapproximatelytwelvehours.Youwillreceiveanemailconfirmationmessageassoonasyourserverisready.

    Aftersetup,youcanuseSimpleControlPaneltoconnecttoyourserverandmanageyourdomains,email,andDNS.Ifyouareamoreexperienceduser,youcanconnecttoyourserverusingSSH.Formoreinformationaboutconnectingtoyourserver,seeConnectingtoYourDedicatedServeronpage 4ofthisguide.
