Robbery Remains a Threat...

Are your branches secure?

You have options. Glory has you covered.

When retail branches utilize teller cash dispensers and teller cash recyclers

from Glory, they will experience significant improvements in branch security.

The following security brief will discuss these improvements, as well as

compare the benefits of this technology vs. bullet-proof glass.

Bank Robberies on the decline

According to the Department of Justice/FBI, Bank Crime Statistics Report for 2014, the ten-year trend for bank robberies is consistently downward. In 2004, there were 7,556 total robberies involving financial institutions of all types and armored carriers. In 2014, there were only 3,879 robberies resulting in a 49% decline in robberies over that ten-year period.

Industry sources have attributed this reduction to implementation of improved branch security systems and strategies along with a greater focus on those who visit the branches with staff greeters and an overall ‘heads-up’ style for all branch staff. It is certainly more than coincidence that this significant decline in robberies aligns with the increased adoption of teller cash recycling technology that secures the cash while also enabling that ‘heads-up’ customer focus. After all, the ‘would be’ robber does not want to be recognized!

Glory can help you prepare and comply quickly with no capital expense by means of our equipment leasing alternative.

THE NEED FOR GREATER SECURITY

Branch Transformation should include strategies to make your branches more comfortable and secure for

staff and customers alike!

BRANCH SECURITY ENHANCEMENT — TELLER CASH AUTOMATION

Teller cash automation is an innovative security solution for any banking environment. Glory cash dispens-

ers and cash recyclers can provide constant vault-level security of your cash, while making it available for

account holders when needed. In essence, a secure location that has specific control procedures and activity

monitoring is provided for all branch cash. This level of cash security drives value throughout the entire

branch environment.

DRAMATICALLY REDUCE CASH EXPOSURE AND LOWER DRAWER BALANCES UP TO 95%

As an example, say you have an average of six tellers per branch with drawer balances of $10,000 each. With

Glory cash automation, all cash is fully secured immediately at the point of acceptance and the amount of cash

held in each teller drawer is decreased. Drawer balances in this scenario go from $10,000 per teller to $500 (if

you choose to keep some cash in your drawer to provide in case of robbery). The impact across your enterprise is

dramatic. Across a 100 branch network, based on the previous data (6 tellers per branch, $10K drawer balanc-

es), your cash exposure would be reduced by $6,000,000 (95% reduction) per day.

“HEADS-UP” TELLER VISION IS VASTLY IMPROVED

If a robbery takes place, how many people in the branch would notice before it was too late? Typically, not many

because your tellers have their heads down as they are focused on counting, recounting, buying, selling and are

often times reviewing drawer content during the day. They are not often focused on what is going on in the

branch outside of their own workspace.

Automating cash transactions minimizes the branch’s exposure as a crime target by increasing the staff’s aware-

ness to the surroundings and activities in the branch. This allows for a more secure environment without the

intimidation of barriers and traps. It also provides for better service delivery as the front line staff can recognize

clients that they may not serve directly with a friendly wave or a short conversation.

DEPOSIT AND DISPENSE PROCESS IS VISIBLE

All Glory cash automation solutions feature top of unit cash dispense and/or deposit. In an automated envi-

ronment, having the cash deposit and dispense from the top of the unit (vs. the side or under the counter) is

helpful for a number of reasons. For security purposes, top dispense ensures that vault-level security of cash can

be maintained for all teller positions because cash is coming from an area that other staff and security cameras

can see. Outside of security, those reasons include being consistent with other teller activities while ensuring

ergonomic movements for your staff during cash transactions.

Branch transformation and safety...A great marriage! By Tommy Loo, LEVEL5, LLC2

One key aspect of Branch Transformation

involves creating a retail environment that

encourages personal interaction between

the staff and their customer/member.

By engaging the customer as they walk

into the branch, conversations take on

a completely new meaning. Therefore,

many Branch Transformation projects work

hand-in-hand with the FBI’s new technique

for avoiding robberies called “SafeCatch”

tactics. The heart of the tactic is engaging

the customer as they walk thru the door

thereby taking away the anonymity from

a potential robber disarming them with

great customer service.

The physical components of Branch

Transformation often replace the

traditional teller line with a Pod System (in

some circles named Dialog Delivery), which

encourages staff interaction with customer

using a face-to-face posture. An integral

part of the system is the cash automation

i.e. cash recyclers.

TELLER CASH AUTOMATION AS A DETERRENT

Bullet-proof glass also provides a significant visual deterrent to robbers. However

some other elements must be reviewed and examined for a fuller picture. Bullet-

proof glass allows the front line staff to feel better protected, but what does it

do for the platform personnel or those in offices? Does it potentially increase

the probability of a takeover robbery? Could a robber fire a gun through the

wood? With Glory cash automation, you can help ensure that your branch does

not become a target for robbery in the first place.

The FBI indicates that many bank robberies are crimes of “desperation.”

However, that does not mean they are not planned. Robbers will typically try to

“scope” the environment and look for trends of cash exposure, times of high

activity and finally look for the easiest targets. Bank robbers are now also asking

for the second drawer more often, as they now know this is where the larger

currency is held, typically without alarm devices. With Glory cash automation,

all cash is vault-level secured at all times in multiple areas in the branch. This is a

significant deterrent for robbery.

Once branch cash recycling equipment has been installed

and your branch cash secured, why not take action to

‘publicize’ your decision?

The first ‘audience’ is any would-be criminal. Many of our

customers choose to install signage at or near the entrance

to their branches similar to that shown at the right with

the intent of making that person aware that cash is not

exposed in this facility and it is not an easy robbery target.

Such signage can be an effective deterrent, especially for

those who “case” the branch in advance.

The other, and most important audience is your clientele.

Why not tell them about your investment in cash recycling

technology with the intention of making their branch visit

more efficient, more enjoyable and safer. This can also

be accomplished by means of a simple “Ask me about

our new cash security technology” sign placed at the

transaction workstations in your branches or a button for

your bankers to wear!

TELLERS HAVELIMITED ACCESS

TO CASHALL CASH IS VAULT-SECURED USING

GLORY CASH TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS

This customer-friendly, open branch is safe and secure thanks to Glory cash automation.

This bullet-proof glass branch offers security, but little else.

Believe it or not, this enticing customer environment is actually a financial institution lobby.

OPEN AND FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT

Open plan banking is a branch design that does not have

bars or bullet-proof glass to separate your staff from

customers. Instead, it provides an attractive environment

that your clients want to visit. Additionally, open plan

banking helps facilitate increased cross-selling and

personalized service.

Glory cash automation can make an open plan branch

both customer-friendly and secure. Once installed, your

staff can become flexible customer advisors who are free

to move around the branch, greet customers and cross-

sell products, rather than being stuck behind a glass

barrier or high counter.

A BETTER OPTION

Often times a vault door is open during the day due to frequent access, so the primary protection becomes a day gate followed by a safe

or locker. Because of this, a vault truly only provides primary security during non-operating hours. Glory cash automation brings vault-level

security to all teller positions at all times. Our cash automation solutions offer steel UL-rated chests for the constant secure storage of cash.

Essentially a Glory cash recycler or dispenser could become an extension of a main vault or replace the need for a main vault entirely. Our fully

alarmed units are similar to the time locks on a branch’s current main vault and offer such features as door contact (attempts to disengage the door

when alarmed), heat sensor (access via torch),

vibration detector (access via jack hammer)

and a timed access controller that only allows

transactions to be conducted

during set operating hours.

Additional security options offered by

Glory include a programmable

duress-dispense feature allowing a

single keyboard function to dispense

limited cash during a robbery and dual

control combination locks with time delays. INVESTMENT REVIEW

When making an investment in branch security, it is important

to consider all the benefits that could impact branch operating

costs and revenue generation. Bullet-proof glass is an expense

with few tangible benefits other than security enhancement.

Glory cash automation improves branch security, the quality of the

customer and staff experience, increases efficiencies in the branch,

contributes to reallocating resources to service and sales, lowers

balancing write-offs, and improves cash management.
