  • Glenn Ferris

Glenn Ferris was born in 1950 in Hollywood, California. He began

classical music trombone studies at 8 years old in Los Angeles. From

1964, in addition to his classical studies, he studied jazz improvisation

with the well-known trumpeter/composer Don Ellis. In 1972 he finished

his studies at the California Institute of the Arts.

His studies did not prevent the professional musical world from calling

him forth from the age of16 years old. At this age Glenn was performing

with the prestigious Don Ellis Big Band as well as performing and

recording with other musical formations. The group "Revival" was co-

founded with Glenn and trumpeter/composer Jack Walrath. Then Glenn

put together the "Celebration Orchestra," which featured some of the

most creative musicians in Los Angeles.

Besides creating his own groups, Glenn was in demand by major artists

to perform and be a featured soloist in their groups: Frank Zappa, Tim

Buckley, Harry James, Billy Cobham and Bobby Bradford among others.

He also performed and recorded with such artists as George Duke, Philly

Joe Jones, James Taylor, Stevie Wonder, John Scofield and Art Pepper.

Since 2000, Glenn Ferris has been an artist-in-residence in the jazz

department at the prestigious Conservatoire National Superieur de

Musique et de Danse of Paris.
