Implementation Strategy

Our goal

To engage at least 100 eye hospitals

to perform at least

one million additional surgeries annually

by 2015.

Our purpose

• Expand high quality, high volume, sustainable eye care services available to 200 million people

• Strengthen Seva’s Global Sight Network to mentor partner hospitals through high- performance hospital management and outreach

• Bring services to more women and girls

Formal Training

• Receive postgraduate clinical training– Ophthalmology– Ophthalmic Nursing and Assistance

• Receive training for managing hospitals– Operations Management & IT– Community Outreach

Advising & Mentoring• Service development and advising to local

and regional eye hospitals

• Experienced personnel mentor other hospitals in sustainability models– Amplifies the number of high-quality, high-

efficiency eye care hospitals

Local Research• Conduct research to assess regional eye

health needs of the population– Clinical and Public Health

• Evaluations of hospital performance

• Publish findings to advance blindness prevention and treatment

Libraries & IT

• Create and maintain a resource center with library resources at Network hospitals– Online and print medical libraries– Web-based benchmarking – Telemedicine– Distance learning

Regional Capacity Development

• To support the Network, Seva will provide– Infrastructure (classrooms, etc.)– Equipment (computers, database, etc.)

• For regional personnel, Seva will– Train personnel to execute core functions– Support personnel to further knowledge

Advocacy & Goodwill• Advocate eye care service delivery

spanning from local to national levels

• Community outreach– Increase eye care & jobs for women & girls

• Help to ensure needs for– Supply chain security & political support– Networking with local & global medical

societies

Results• 26 million to be screened for eye health

• 2.6 million to receive sight restoring surgery (1.6 million being women and girls)

• 8 million to receive corrective eyeglasses

• 200 Million able to access quality eye care

• Millions of women and girls attend school, return to work and/or care for their families

Who We Are• For 30 years, Seva has been a leader of

sustainable healthcare and development community programs

• Seva and Global Sight Network hospitals performed over 500,000 cataract surgeries and screened 3 million people for eye health last year
