Sapphires

Potions and Poisons A rather excited class of Year 4 pupils

ventured into the woods last week to learn about poisonous plants and create

some imaginative potions. Led by Julie Hanson, a National Trust warden, the

group identified and discussed poisonous plants such as hogweed,

hemlock and stinging nettles, all of

which can be found in our local environment.

Next, the children were given a potent

imagination potion which helped them to gather ingredients for their own potions.

The final ingredients were carefully added – a heaped blade of enchanted

powder and a capful of magic liquid, causing the concoctions to fizz, froth

and gurgle like fizzy drinks. Finally, the children had to complete their potions

by writing labels using lively and expressive vocabulary.

The class had a truly memorable time and would like to thank Julie for

preparing such inspiring activities.

Emerald Class

Our focus for the next few weeks will be 'Celebrations' - the children will be

exploring the theme of celebrations through art work, games, drama, history

of celebrations, recipes and music.

Friday17th November

Morning ramble around Godolphin.

Non uniform with wellies or walking

boots.

Next Friday, in support of Children in

Need, we would like to invite our pupils

to take part in a ramble around

Godolphin Woods. To raise some money

for this worthy cause, we are also

planning to hold our very own duck

races during the morning.

Ducks can be purchased for £1

and will be on sale in the playground

before and after school next week. All

profits will be donated to the charity.

We are aiming to sell 200 ducks and

therefore encourage parents, family and

friends to purchase ducks of their own.

There will be separate races for children

and adults, with prizes to be won!

PTA

Christmas Card Fundraiser

Christmas cards and gift through Class

Fundraising will accept a late order for

any parents still interested.

Order forms outside the office. Closing

date Monday 13th November.

£89.70 was raised at the Halloween

cake sale at the end of term. An

enormous thank you to all those who

supported us.

Sports Update

Badminton

Two Godolphin teams took part in a Y3/4 badminton skills festival at Helston

Community College last Friday. The

pupils had to complete a series of 8 activities designed to test their skills,

speed and teamwork, trying to score as many points as possible in 3 minutes.

Both teams performed superbly, with our ‘B’ team ending up as the

tournament winners, and our ‘A’ team finishing 9th out of the 11 teams

entered. The ‘B’ team will now be joining the school’s Y5/6 team at the

Peninsula Finals on Friday 24th November. We wish both teams good

luck! Thank you to Mrs Kirk for helping with this event.

XC League With 4 races now complete, Godolphin

look to be in a strong position in the Helston & Mullion XC League. The

school is currently 2nd overall out of the 21 schools that have taken part, and are

leading the weighted points category which is calculated according to the

number of children on role in KS2.

The school’s success is a result of the continued commitment of all of the

determined children who have taken part in at least one race, as well as the

enthusiastic families and friends who

support our wonderful young athletes. We now have a long break before the

next league race which is scheduled for Tuesday 27th March 2018.

Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra

Trio

On Wednesday afternoon the school had

some very special visitors – a trio of

players from the Bournemouth

Symphony Orchestra came to perform,

playing a variety of music, from classical

to popular. Their performance was so

inspiring and the children were really

encouraged and uplifted. Here are some

of the things the children said after the

concert.

Emerald Class

I liked it when the horn played the Star

Wars music. I want to play the flute when I am older

because it plays lovely music.

I liked the ‘swan music’ because I like feeding the swans.

I liked the big double bass. I liked the sound it made.

It made me feel happy. I like the flute when it goes all soft.

It made me want to cry. I was so happy.

Diamond Class

Amazing/Brilliant/Fabulous

I think I’d to learn an instrument now.

I think I’d like to do that for my job. I want to play like that so I’ll practise

more.

Sapphire Class

The music was fantastic and I really enjoyed it.

Fascinating I liked how they kept in time with each

other. It was like they had loads of energy

inside them and I could watch it a million times.

Zircon Class

It really paints a picture in your mind.

It was inspiring. It was simply brilliant!

I wanted to be them.

A big thank you to Seb, Darcie, Tom and

Esmee for making our guests feel so

welcome.

Breage School needs your help.

Please could you help in giving Breage

School’s votes to win a new playground

a final boost? They are currently number

4 so need a concentrated push for votes

this week, as voting ends at 11.59pm on

Tuesday 14th November 2017. It only

takes a minute to vote, each email

address you have can be used to vote

once and anyone aged over 18 who is a

UK resident can vote. Being such a small

school means it is going to be a real

challenge for Breage to secure the most

votes so every single vote will add up

and will be very much appreciated.

FOOT'S CHARITIES COFFEE MORNING

FRIDAY 24th NOVEMBER

10am - 12noon

IN GODOLPHIN CHAPEL

Please support this event

and our local schools

Refreshments, cake stall and raffle

ALL WELCOME

The Foot's Charities is a local charity

with the following objectives:

'For the advancement of Education and

the relief of those in financial need,

hardship and distress in the

ecclesiastical parishes of Breage and

Germoe'

On 16th May 1857 Mary Ann Foot, a

widow from Devonport, made a will in

which she instructed her executors to

set up a fund which would provide an

income of £10 a year.

She died in 1858 and her wishes were

carried out by setting up four charities.

Unfortunately over the years the income

of these charities became less and less

valuable due to poor administration, and

was left in a bank account and not

distributed.

Since 2001 the Trustees of the Charity

have each year distributed the income of

the fund to St Breaca Church of England

School, Germoe Community Primary

School and this year (2016) to

Godolphin Community Primary School.

This has been in the form of a small

grant for teaching aids enabling the

understanding of the Christian Faith as

well as other Faiths. There has also

been a presentation each year of a Bible

and/or prayer book to those moving

from primary to senior school. This

year we changed to key rings and data

sticks - a sign of the times !!

Christmas Shoeboxes

A big thank you to those who have already bought filled shoeboxes into

school - our collection is growing. The last date for bringing boxes into school

is 18th Nov. Please put in the school hall.
