What Is Google Instant

Google Instant is a new search engine thathelps users find information faster by showingrelevant results as a query is typed.

As users get this immediate feedback, they'reable to refine their searches more quickly andfind the results that more precisely match whatthey need.

Google estimates that Google Instant will savepeople an average of 2-5 seconds per search.

Problems

Some websites may now suffer a drop intraffic.

Result in complications for rank-checkingsoftware and impact on search demandfigures given by Google's keyword tools.

µLong tailµ search has increased, the cost-per-click (CPC) Google can charge for 'long tail' keywords is significantly lower

than that on one or two keyword searchqueries. Therefore the more people search for 'long tail' search queries, the

less money Google can charge the advertiser.

About Google Instant

Google's development uses  AJ AX todynamically serve search results as you type.

Each time a new recognizable word or phraseis typed that changes the results set in ameaningful way. Google will fetch the searchresults for that word - without you having to hit'search'.

For every search Google may have toprocess everywhere from a couple to half adozen different searches.

Impact

Users may now find something to click on beforecompletely typing their originally intended searchterm

To be visible in search results, it may become moreimportant for websites to optimize for the shorter.

For example, if a website has optimized for andholds good rankings for 'cheap car insurance UK',that term may lose search traffic as UK users find

that the shorter 'cheap car insurance' returns severalrelevant looking results, negating the need to finishtheir sentence.

Effect on paid search

Whether Google will count each refresh/change of thesearch engine results pages as an impression for theadvertiser. This increase in unwanted impressions

could play havoc with an advertisers Google QualityScore.

Google is constantly looking for ways of reducingwasted impressions for their clients with the objective

being to improve click through rate (CTR).Click-throughrate or CTR is a way of measuring the success of anonline advertising campaign, The rate at which peopleclick on an ad.

Google Instant to speed up

searches

Google users will begin to see an ever-evolving set of search

results appearing on their computer screens, potentially

changing with each additional character typed.

Google Instant will predict what a person really wants by

filling out the anticipated search terms in gray letters.

Google through Google Instant expects to reduce the time

spent on search by two to five seconds per request

Limitations

Google Instant will not work on 'iGoogle' because itcontain pages that are already covered with differentdecorations and programs plugged into other onlineservices.

Google has programmed the instant results to blockwebsites deemed to have violent or hateful material butthis restriction may trigger complaints that Google isstifling freedom of expression or unfairly screening outsome sites that were improperly blacklisted.

The instant results also could be biased toward featuringmajor brands and companies during the first fewcharacters of a request.
