Congratulations on a fne win,a great way to get your titlechallenge back on track...It was wonderful! The start was reallyimportant, and we got the lead. Ihave to say thanks to the team, myengineers and mechanics, because Ihavent had any reliability problemsthis season. This weekend we racedreally well, we showed that wedeserved to gain the lead in thechampionship. Maybe we deserveit at the end of Singapore, but Imlooking forward to going there andghting for the top position withall the other drivers!

You had great pace today, and onlyhad Leimer with you... were youworried about him at all?

The pace today was 10 times betterthan yesterday, and I cant explainwhy! I was disappointed yesterdaythat I was gaining the leadership ofthe championship, but I didnt racewell. Our pace in the rst few lapswas not so competitive, so I droppedto sixth and was not happy! Buttoday we were one of the quickest;maybe Leimer was a bit quicker at

the start of the race, but at the endwe were better. If Leimer had takenthe lead at the beginning then hemay have won, but in the end I gota good victory. It was important toshow that we are a real contender forthe championship. To beat us, theywill need to make a really big eort.

So, its 25 points between you andLuiz now... how important is thatgoing into the fnal round?I dont know! [laughs]. Its important, because Im leading now, and Impositive, because my car is fast.I will go to Singapore, a wonderfulplace that I have never been tobefore, and it is a street circuit, whereusually Im strong. So right now I amne, and I hope to be ne also at theend of the weekend there.

Ater a antastic weekend oeeder series racing at Monza,it seemed only right that thetwo stand-out drivers o theFormula 1 main event shouldalso be GP2 graduates.

Lewis Hamilton, the 2006GP2 Series champion, scorched toa famous win in front of the tifosifrom pole position. The class actof the eld over the weekend, theMcLaren driver simply never lookedlike he was going to be beaten.

It was looking for all the worldthat Hamilton would be followedhome by the Ferraris of FernandoAlonso and Felipe Massa. However, that was before a clever strategiccall by Sauber saw Sergio Preztake on the option tyre for the nalstint and catch the cars ahead ofhim. At one point the Mexican hada 1.8 second per lap advantageover the scarlet cars.

Checo dispatched rst Massa andthen Alonso to take second place

and secure himself in the heartsof Ferraris fans as the man theywant at the Scuderia in theimmediate future.

Nico Rosberg had a battlingrace to nish seventh after losingseveral positions in the openinglaps. Kamui Kobayashi fought toninth with Bruno Senna taking thenal point in tenth place.

Hamilton now trails Alonso by37 points with seven rounds of theseason remaining.

There was something o aninevitability about round 11o the 2012 GP2 Series. Evenor a hopeless motor racingromantic, it was all just tooperect. The theatre o speed,o racing dreams Monza. The heart o Italian racingheritage, and at the middleo its 2012 story, two Italianracers who wear their heartson their sleeves. They justhad to win didnt they?

feAture rAceLuca Filippi returned for hishome race, and after qualifyingthird on the grid, the storywas ready to be written. Andso it was, just as it was alwaysscripted, that Luca Filippi shouldrise above his rivals to take themost incredible victory againstthe odds at home, beatingJohnny Cecotto and MarcusEricsson. But of course, Filippisincredible and emotionalreturn was a victorious subplotto the bigger issue thechampionship.

It was a story which took anearly spin, as Luiz Razia retiredfrom the race after contactwith Fabio Leimer. The Brazilian

would be found guilty of causingthe accident and handed a gridpenalty, thus ruining any chanceof a good result. His main rivalDavide Valsecchi meanwhileturned in a sixth place nish toline up on the second row of thegrid for Sunday.

sprnt rAceJust as his countryman hadblasted through to victoryon Saturday, so Valsecchidominated proceedingson Sunday to take a hugelyemotional win at home, hissecond in GP2 at Monza. Leimerbattled well to take second

place, with Jolyon Palmer third, making it a good weekend foriSport. However, it was one toforget for Lotus, as the teamscored just two points forEsteban Gutirrezs ninth placenish on Saturday.

Valsecchi now leads thechampionship by 25 pointsheading into the nal roundin Singapore, making him thehot favorite to take the driverschampionship in a fortnightstime. Tighter still is the battlefor the teamschampionship, with DAMS leading Lotus bytwo points with just oneweekend remaining.

No one likes to beconfused for other people, butit must be particularly gallingfor a race driver, especially onetrying to make a name for himselfin the F1 paddock. every gp2 race IslIKe a home race!

The GP2 round at Monza the temple ofspeed was a truly Italian affair with twoItalian winners: Luca Filippi and DavideValsecchi. Pirellis home race is all the morespecial, as Monza is less than half an hours

drive from the companys Milan headquarters.Pirelli has been based in Milan sinceGiovanni Battista Pirelli founded the companyin 1872, but the Italian tyre makers head officemoved to its present site, in the Bicocca districtof the city in 1907.

The companys buildings were housedwithin the Pirelli Citadeloff Viale Sarca, shapedlike an ancient fortress, which can still be seentoday. By the end of the 1930s, the factory hadreached its peak in size, and by 1950 had over12,000 employees. It was a real village, whicheven had its own railway line to transportproducts between the warehouses.

In 1962, a fire destroyed a large proportionof the factory, and with the onset ofautomation, new factories opened thatwere more suited to modern productiontechniques. Throughout the 1970s and 80sthe original factory declined, so it was clearthat drastic action was needed.

On 26 April 1985, work began on ProjectBicocca. The old factory buildings were pulleddown and a new cutting-edge research anddevelopment headquarters was created. Atotal of 20 architects from countries as farafield as Japan and the USA contributed to theproject, once more giving Pirelli a stunningheadquarters. It was in these high-techsurroundings, that Pirellis Formula One andGP2 programmes were born in 2010.

All the research and development for theGP2 tyres takes place in Italy, but the tyresthemselves around 20,000 of them per year are produced a t Pirellis specialized facilityin Izmit, Turkey, and transported via Pirellisdedicated distribution hub at Didcot, England.

So while the heart and soul of Pirelliwill always be in Milan, it is today a trulyinternational company employing over34,000 people and with a presence in morethan 160 countries.

Of course were proud of our Italianheritage, and we were delighted to see Lucaand Davide win at home, explained PirellisRacing Manager Mario Isola. But we treateverybody absolutely equally and we havea very international outlook. Just within ourcore team that travels to races, we have ninenationalities who speak 14 languages betweenthem! Its great news for us, as it means thatalmost every race is a home race really

Evans grabs titlE from abtItaly // race 1 wInner: danIel abt // race 2 wInner: tIo ellInas

    tomoow comEs today

Not even Hollywood would have bought adrama this improbable. Four drivers enteringthe fnal weekend with a shot at the title: thelong-time leader Mitch Evans, Antonio Felixda Costa, Aaro Vainio and outsider Daniel Abt.

race 1When Evans took pole, the look o dejection onda Costas ace spoke volumes. But Evans frstrace lasted just one lap. An early retirement, hesat in the pitlane dejected. The title was allinginto Da Costas lap until, suddenly, his Carlinstuck in gear. He tumbled down the order, outo the points. Vainio ran home third, but hadimproved his fnal sector under yellow ags.

An immediate penalty, no points. But Abt hadwon. All he had to do was win again

race 2Evans started last, Abt eighth, but took thelead. Evans ought his way into the points, but a puncture dropped him to the back anddashed his dreams once again. Abt was passedby Tio Ellinas and Evans was champion or alap... until Abt retook the lead. With two laps togo the Cypriot ought back and Abt could notrespond. The German was heartbroken, but thevery picture o grace in deeat; Evans was thechampion. Somehow, against the odds, Evanshad done it. You couldnt have made it up!

The GP3/13 was nally unveiled to theworld at the nal round of the 2013championship, in Monza. The paddockbuzzed with throngs of journalists, drivers and team members all eager tocatch a rst glimpse of the new car .

The second generation car eatures anaturally-aspirated 400hp engine comparedto the current 280hp and the recentdevelopment tests have shown that thecar is expected to be at least three secondsaster than the current model. The GP3/13also enjoys a new nose, sidepods andengine cover.

The car was fred up by Red Bull RacingF1 driver and MW Arden team boss MarkWebber, who seemed to enjoy the newexhaust note, and jokingly waved the crowdto move out o his way so he could drive thecar out o the hospitality unit.

GP3 Series CEO Bruno Michel was

delighted to see the car launched.I am very proud o this new generation

car, he said. Our main objective was tomake sure that GP3 remains the best wayto prepare young drivers or the next steps,GP2 and F1, which is why we designeda more powerul and more selective car

that, among other things, reduces the gapbetween GP3 and GP2. In order to do so,we careully assessed the dierent singleseater categories below GP2 and took intoaccount observations rom our drivers andteams. Were convinced that the way wevepositioned the GP3/13 is the right one orthe next three seasons.

Even i the car has evolved, the costswill be similar to beore. That was key. Theteams will not have to buy a new car. Wewill provide them with a development kit.It was quite a challenge seeing how theaerodynamics and the engine are dierent. And speaking o the engine, we go rom280 to 400hp or the same price.
