Recent EventsLegendary mix engineer Bob Clearmountain came to Full Sail’s campus recently, speaking to a packed house in Full Sail Live 1. Clearmountain’s lecture touched on his legacy working with artists like David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, and Paul McCartney, and gave students insight into the recording industry’s evolution and future.

In May 2012, Full Sail University and WWE launched a partnership to bring live tapings of WWE NXTto the Full Sail campus and create a scholarship fund for students. In the years since, this partnership has resulted in hundreds of hours of practical production experience for students, multiple career networking opportunities for students and grads, and hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarship awards.

Refl ecting on this unique relationship, Full Sail President Garry Jones says, “We are humbled by the continued dedication from WWE in recognizing the eff orts and dreams of our students. Collaborating with WWE has elevated the education experience here at Full Sail University by creating many opportunities for our students to be mentored by some of the best minds in the entertainment production industry.”

Full Sail has made the foray into the world of eSports with the recent announcement of Armada, a collegiate eSports team open to all students. The organization will unite existing student clubs focused on competitive gameplay under one single unit, and give students the opportunity to compete against other universities in games like Overwatch, League of Legends, Super Smash Brothers, and more.

Anyone can join Armada. Members can look forward to a variety of extra-curricular activities – from viewing parties to campus-based tournaments. The team will function similar to a student club, with an additional roster of seven individuals representing Full Sail at collegiate-level events. As collegiate team members graduate, the team will act as an incubator for new talent.

The initiative to bring eSports to campus was spearheaded by Mobile Development Bachelor’s Lab Specialist Hoyt Dingus. He hopes to engage students across campus and provide a fun, competitive environment for networking among peers.

“The idea is to ignite pride on campus,” says Hoyt. “Armada will engage a sense of camaraderie and give students something to root for and rally around. It’s something they can look back on with pride after they graduate.”

Through project-based curriculum, students in this program will gain real-world experience as they focus

on the constantly evolving needs of the industry. They’ll also get ongoing feedback from a team of

faculty who are active professionals themselves.

Recognized as one of the industry’s top sports broadcasters, Dan Patrick was heavily involved

with the development of this program.

“I’m regularly being asked how to get into the industry, and I was meeting college graduates who weren’t

getting practical experience as part of their degrees...”

...This program is designed to develop

well-rounded grads who are just as strong

on camera as they are behind the scenes.

He cites Full Sail’s agile approach to curriculum as a deciding factor to partner up.

“How we consume sports is changing almost daily. What’s important is what’s important now. Is it going

to be important in six weeks, six months from now? We have to be able to adapt. That’s the beauty about

Full Sail. We adapt to what the industry is doing, and that helps the student,” he says.

Brandon Moore:Graphic Designer for

the Miami Dolphins

2009 Digital Arts and Design graduateBrandon Moore made a name for himself working on logos and brand identities for various clients. Now, he’s bringing his skills to the Miami Dolphins.

“I don’t know that I believe that design can be timeless, but that’s what I shoot for,” he says. “At the same time, I’m all about breaking through the status quo and fi guring out ways for us to stand out from everyone else. We’re about evolution rather than revolution.”

Mix Engineer and Full Sail Hall of Fame Inductee Leslie Brathwaite has worked with top-tier artists like Pharrell Williams and Jay Z. Now, he’s added another juggernaut to his client roster with the release of Cardi B’s debut album, Invasion of Privacy.

“She’s the most authentic person, and she’s really fun to be around,” he says. To get the project turned around quickly,

Leslie enlisted the help of another Full Sail grad – Mastering Engineer Colin Leonard.

“Colin’s been my go-to mastering guy for a couple of years now,” he says. “When the head of Atlantic, Craig Kallman, asked if I had any recommendations for mastering, I immediately thought of Colin because not only does he do incredible work; he’s also fast.”

Avengers: Infi nity War smashed box offi ce records to achieve the best opening weekend of any movie in history.

20 Full Sail grads worked on the fi lm, including Hall of Fame inductees David Farmer (Sound Supervisor) and Juan Peralta (Re-recording Mixer). This marked David’s third project for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he spoke to us about what the experience was like.

“I was lucky to be teamed up with a great crew that has worked on many Marvel properties as well,” he says. “We knew there were lots of new sounds to make, including Thanos’ Infi nity Gauntlet, the Infi nity Stones, the ships, location ambiences, and more.”

Graduates Work on theRecord Breaking Film‘Avengers: Infinity War’

More than a dozen Full Sail graduates worked on Steven Spielberg’s new fi lm, Ready Player One. Taking on roles from

VFX assistant to NASA clearance coordinator, these 16 graduates from our Film, Computer Animation, and Recording Arts programs contributed

their talents to help take this popularbook to the big screen.

To celebrate the release of the fi lm, an exclusive screening was held at Regal Winter Park Village Stadium for Full Sail students, faculty, and staff . To add to the excitement, guests enjoyed a VR

experience before and after the screening and had a chance to win giveaways from the fi lm.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is the newest installment in the Star Wars franchise, and tells the origin story of the series’

roguish hero, how he ended up piloting the Millenium Falcon, and, of course, how he teamed up with Chewbacca. The action-packed fi lm featured the work

of several Full Sail alumni, including foley editor Dee Selby (1994 Recording Arts grad), Assistant Re-recording Mixer James “Jeff ” King (2012 Recording Arts grad),

and Stereo Compositor Alex Bonacci (2013 Computer Animation grad).

The magazine, founded by award-winning journalist Sharon Waxman in 2009, had this to say about Full Sail:

“Full Sail grads come back to the Florida campus to share their lessons in the new Behind the Scenes series–most recently, Baby Driver production coordinator Steve Cainas and Microsoft Mixed Reality Experiences director Cordy Rierson. Maybe next year it’ll be Steven C. Miller, who started his career the minute he graduated, shot his debut Automaton Transfusion in nine days, sold it to Dimension Films and now works on Stallone and Schwarzenegger’s Escape Plan 2 and his third film with Bruce Willis, First Kill.”
