Blessed Are The Pure in Heart Peter Latonab. 1968

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.Blessed are they who suffer persecution for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

O blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.O blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

O blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.O blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

O blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.O blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

O blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.O blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

O blessed are you when the world reviles you and persecutes you and utters all manner of evil against you for my sake.Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven.

    (Matthew 5: 3-12)

Like as the Hart Healey Willan 1880-1968

Like as the hart desireth the water brooks,So longeth my soul after Thee, O God.My soul is athirst for God, yea, even for the living God;When shall I come to appear before the presence of God.Like as the hart desireth the water brooks,So longeth my soul after Thee, O God.

    (Psalm 42: 1-2)

Like a Deer That Yearns for Running Streams Peter Latona b. 1968

Like a deer that yearns for running streams,My soul longs for you, my God.

My soul thirsts for God, the living GodWhen can I enter and see the face of God?My tears have been my meat day and night, As they ask me every day, “where is your God?”

Those times as I recall I poured out my soulWhen I would cross over to the shrine of the Mighty One, to the house of God,Amid loud cries of thanksgiving,With the multitude keeping festival.

Deep calls to deep in the roar of your torrents,And all your waves and breakers sweep over me. By day may the Lord send his mercy, And by night may his righteousness be with me! I will pray to the God of my life.

Why are you downcast, my soul, Why do you groan within me? Wait for God, for I shall again praise him,My Savior and my God.

    (Psalm 42: 1, 2-3, 4, 7-8, 11)

Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring Johann Sebastian Bach1685-1750

Through the way where hope is guiding, Hark, what peaceful music rings.Where the flock in thee confiding Drink of joy from deathless springs!Theirs is beauty’s fairest pleasure, Theirs is wisdom’s holiest treasure.Thou dost ever led thine own In the love of joys unknown.

Come and Taste Alice Parkerb. 1925

Come and taste along with me consolation flowing free, from the Father’s wealthy throne, sweeter than the honeycomb.

I’ll praise God and you praise God, and we’ll all praise God together;we’ll praise the Lord for the work that he has done, and we’ll bless his Name forever.

All that come with free good will make the banquet sweeter still;now I go to mercy’s door, asking for a little more.

Goodness, running like a stream through the new Jerusalem,by a constant breaking forth sweetens earth and heaven both.

O, return, ye sons of grace, turn and see God’s smiling face.Hark, he calls backsliders home, then from him no longer roam.

    (Text: John Leland)

    v. In Paradisum from Ten Preludes on Gregorian Chant Melodies Gerald Near b. 1942

Verily, Verily I Say Unto You Thomas Tallis1505-1585

Verily, verily, I say unto you:except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man,and drink his blood,ye have no life in you.Whoso eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life;and I will raise him up at the last day.

For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.

    (John 6:53-56)
