Purposeoftheposition
Thispositionisresponsiblefortheprofitablemanagementandoperationoftheschoolcanteenaccordingtothepoliciesandproceduresof{schoolname/governingbody}.Theincumbentwillsupportthedevelopmentofstrongrelationshipsintheschoolcommunityinparticularwiththestudents,parentsandvolunteers,teachers,andotherschoolpersonnel.
CanteenPolicy The{schoolname}canteen’saimsandobjectivesareto: Listaimsofcanteenre:FreshTastes,FoodSafety,overallpurposeofcanteen.
Relationships ThispositionworkscloselywiththeP&C,canteencommittee,canteenconvenor,the
schoolPrincipalandthestudents,staffandwiderschoolcommunity.
Immediatemanager TheCanteenManagerisresponsibletotheP&CexecutivethroughtheCanteenConvenor.OR
TheCanteenManagerisresponsibletothePrincipal(ifaschoolrunCanteen).Reports CanteenAssistant/sandvolunteersreporttothisposition
Stakeholders Schoolcommunityincludingstudents,staff,volunteers,parentsandwiderschool
community.
ExtentofAuthority Hasauthoritytopurchase/ordernecessaryproductsandproducetodeliverahealthycanteenfoodservice.

KeyResponsibilities Thecanteenmanager isresponsibleforthemanagementoftheday‐to‐dayoperationsoftheschoolcanteen.Thisincludesthefollowingresponsibilities: Providing leadership to canteen staff and volunteers to ensure the delivery of an
affordablefoodservicetothestudentsandstaffoftheschool; Planning, organising, and monitoring the day to day operations of the canteen,
including the rostering of voluntary workers, daily record‐keeping (as deemednecessary by the canteen policy), opening and closing the canteen, preparation andcookingforserviceandensuringallworkerssigninandout;
Ensurethattheoperationofthecanteenisinlinewiththevaluesoftheschool; Developingthenecessaryprocedurestodeliverthefoodservice; Orientatingand trainingvolunteers in the foodpreparationandotherprocedures to
deliveranaffordablefoodservicetothestudentsandstaff; Ensuring that the products and services supplied by the canteen aremarketed and
promotedtogenerateahighlevelofsalesonadailybasis; Usefoodpreparationandcookingskillstominimisewasteoffreshproduce; Ordering, purchasing and checking all supplies against invoices and delivery dockets
thenpassingthemontotheappropriatefinancialdelegate; Ensuringthatfoodproductspricesaremonitoredandvalueformoneyconsidered; ProvideareporttocanteenconvenorontheactivitiesoftheCanteen,includingsales
onceperterm; Counting,recordingandreconcilingthedailytakingsaccordingtoschoolpolicyforsafe
handlingofmoney; Ensurethatstock iskeepatappropriate levelsandastocktake isundertakenat the
endofeachschoolterm; MaintainstatisticalrecordsaccordingthepoliciesandproceduressetdownbytheP&C
executive – to expedient reconciliations of sales to purchases and to allow forinformeddecisionmakingwhenaddingortakinganitemoffthemenu;
Implementproceduresandprocessregardingfoodsafetytoensurethatcorrectfoodhandlingandhygienepracticesareperformedtopreventfoodspoilage,contaminationandsubsequentfoodpoisoning;
Ensuring all canteen workers including volunteers are familiar with correct foodhandlingandhygienepracticesinlinewithStandard3.2.2;
AttendcanteencommitteemeetingswithaP&Crepresentativeonceperterm; Co‐operatewiththeP&C,inorganisingtheordering,deliveryandstorageofitemsfor
specialeventsbeingconductedbytheschool; Ensuringthehealth,safetyandwelfareofothersinthecanteen; Securityinthecanteensuchasmoney,keys,armingsecurityalarms,lockingalldoors
andwindows, switching off all appliances (except refrigeration units) and restrictingentrytothecanteentoonlythosewhoareauthorisedtobethere;
Ensuringthatthecleaningincidentaltothemainfunctionofthecanteeniscarriedoutdaily (e.g. dusting of shelves and stock, wiping down benches, cleaning of allequipmentandfixtures)inaccordancetothecleaningproceduressetoutinthefoodsafetyplan;
LoggingmaintenanceissuesandadheringtoOH&Spoliciesandprocedures; Ensuring the canteen is vacated daily before the time negotiated with the school
Principal,havingcompletedalldailytask. Ensuringapleasantworkingenvironmentforthevolunteers. Ensuring that students are treated with respect and dignity and should any issues
arise,thesewillbeimmediatelyreportedtobothP&Candschooladministration. Identifyopportunities for linking thecanteen tootheractivitiesof theschool–Fruit
breaks,culturalawareness,themes,etcetera.
