explain how Greeks believed that gods and goddess controlled nature and shaped their lives.

explain how Greek poetry and fables taught Greek values.

explain how Greek drama still shapes entertainment today.

explain how Greek art and architecture expressed Greek ideas of beauty and harmony.

Assessment

Students will be assessed by completing a graphic organizer and foldable.

Accommodations

In order for the lower level students to achieve, cooperative learning will be used and the students will

be allowed to work with their peers to complete their graphic organizer. The teacher assistant will also

be available if needed.

Instruction

Present the lesson content:

This lesson will be presented through direct instruction, and a graphic organizer.

Review the past learning:

Yesterday we began looking at the culture of ancient Greece. Today we will see exactly how they still

influence life today.

Focus:

Ask the students:

- What are some examples of Greek architecture?

- Can you think of any influences today that originally came from the Greeks?

Purpose:

The purpose of this lesson is to inform you about the culture of ancient Greece.

Objective:

Upon completion of this lesson, the student will be able to describe how the Greek influences still shape

life today.

Instruction:

1. Introduction Activity/ Bell Ringer

Read and Answer the questions from the World Literature Section titled, “Icarus and Daedalus” (page

164-167) and Answer questions 1-5 on page 167.

2. Return students KWL Chart

3. Powerpoint Notes and Lecture (Outline will be provided to students)

Reading 5.1 Sheet and Read Section 5.2 on pages 168-173.
