Greek Gods

• Greeks were polytheistic or had many gods

Zeus

• Father of all gods• Golden throne on mount Olympus• Master of the world

Creation of the world• The universe had no shape…this was called Chaos. • After Chaos there were more gods• Gaia= the Earth• Uranus=the sky.

Gods were a family

• Each had specific powers/responsibilities• Zeus-head of the family• Poseidon-god of the sea• Hera-wife of Zeus/goddess of marriage• Ares-god of war (picture to the right)

Worship

• Greeks prayed for things they wanted• To feel better if they were sick• Thank gods with animal sacrifices (kill animals)
