The first building on what is now called Union House was the National Museum from 1863 to 1899, designed by Reed and Barnes (the museum moved to its present site in Carlton Gardens in 1899). In 1910 the Student Union established the site as their base, and renovations and extensions to the building were done in post-WWII decade. Little of the original building remained today.

Named after a former vice-chancellor and Antarctic explorer Sir Raymond Priestley, the building was built in the 1960s following what was then popular Brutalist style.

Redmond Barry building, named after the first chancellor of the university. Built in 1961.

Designed by the firm Reed Henderson and Smart in the neo-Gothic style, Baldwin Spencer building was built in 1887 to house the university’s Biology department. The building was designed to have a well-lit and ventilated space for its experiment and dissecting room. In 1920 department of Biology were renamed Zoology and a wooden shed for horses were built nearby to the east.

West wing of the building was added in 1963.

The Old Commerce building was built in 1941, its western façade originally from an 1856 bank designed by Joseph Reed. In 2014 the new MSD building was completed on the site, only the western façade remains today.
