somewhere to live?

What is this scheme?

It provides cashless ‘bonds’ and other help to enable single homeless people to access the private rented sector.

Who is involved?

It is run by a partnership between H3 (Helping the Homeless into Housing), and Stockport Homes’ Housing Options Team.

This project is possible thanks to money from Crisis, supported by the Department for Communities and local government.

Who are ‘H3’?

H3 are people just like you: they’ve been homeless, and are now working together to give something back and help other people in their situation.

H3 are a constituted group; this means they can fundraise, make decisions about the way services are run, and set up projects like this one to help homeless people.

How do I know if I qualify?

• You must have been provided with a ‘non-priority’ homeless decision by the Housing Options Team in Stockport.

• You must be working with a support service, for example: Temporary Accommodation, some kind of floating support, Probation or drug and alcohol services. We will need to confirm this with them when you apply.

• You must be able to demonstrate responsibility towards managing a tenancy and your finances.

• You must be willing to give feedback on your experience of the scheme to Crisis if requested.

What will I get?

• A bond for a value up to one month’s rent.• Help with preparing for managing a tenancy, for

example advice on bills and responsibilities of being a tenant.

• Help with finding a property and speaking to the landlord.

• Help claiming Housing Benefit if you need it.• Help settling in to your property, for example getting

furniture.• Invitations to attend H3 meetings and events, as well

as opportunities to get involved with volunteering activities.

So what is a ‘bond’?

• A bond is used instead of a cash deposit to help secure private rented accommodation. This means that instead of cash, H3 Home Finder will guarantee the value of up to a month’s rent to the landlord if anything happens to you or the property.

What do I have to do?

• H3 Home Finder asks that whilst you are in the property, you save up for your own deposit. The bond cannot last forever, as we have other people to help – so in 6-12 months you will need to pay the cash deposit to your landlord.

• We can help you in saving up for your own deposit; for example working with you and your landlord and helping you with budgeting.

• We ask that you treat the property as your home. This means that not only do you get a safe and happy place to live, but you treat it with respect by not damaging the property or causing a nuisance to your neighbours.
