DESIGN STATEMENT & SUMMARY

Welcome to my personal portfolio, my name is Aaron Michael Hachey. I am a published photographer and artist, with an establishing education in Landscape Architecture and Urban Design. I am inspired by the unique qualities, and various applications of nature. With this passion, I wish to integrate natural systems with urban infrastructure for a sustainable future.

Studying Landscape Architecture at the University of Guelph, I am dedicated to transforming outdoor spaces into art-scapes. My main focus is toward rehabilitation of urban environments, pedestrianization, indigenous species, botanical gardens, and eco-resorts.

I received publications in TD Friends of the Environment national Calendar, international magazine Florist’s Review “Christmas in July” issue, and Western University’s Gazette.

Appearing in exhibitions for the Art’s Project and Western’s 11th Annual Juried Exhibition, I am always searching for new ways to expose my art and photography. I love sharing a collection of photographs, revealing unique flora from around the world, or my backyard. I have shared a wide range of paintings focused on B&W portraits and Trees, a couple sculptures, and other artistic creations.

In a few short pages, I wish to share my abilities acquired over the years in Graphic Analyses, Artwork, Residential Design, Construction Details, Parks, Community Planning, and Urban Design. Blessed with an opportunity and education at the University of Guelph, my portfolio showcases a diverse application of my skills, refined and critiqued by established landscape architects.

Thank you for taking the time to review my greatest passion.

Sincerely,

Aaron FERGUSSON PARK, FERGUS, 2013

CONCEPTUAL & GRAPHIC ANALYSISHere you will find a collection of site maps, conceptual designs and urban analysis. As the starting block to design, this essential step establishes the awareness of a site’s opportunities and constraints. It communicates the site’s qualities and design in simple form. I offer samples created by hand, in Adobe Photoshop

RESIDENTIAL DESIGN & DETAILSHome is where the heart is, and I will always appreciate the intimacy of Residential Design. Here is a small selection of installed work, and a few details created during my years at the School of Landscape Architecture in Guelph.

P A R K SCOMMUNITY PLANNING AND PARKS

For as long I can remember, I have wanted to take a walk in a park I had the privilege of designing. Before realizing my true passion for sustaining the city with living infrastructure, I set my heart on creating parks for an inclusive community. I wish to create places that engage people. These include community gardens, functional trails and wetlands, natural corridors, and stepping-stones for fauna. I wish to fine-tune the balance between naturalization and aesthetically pleasing places for the people.

ST. GEORGE’S SQUARE | ROUNDABOUT DESIGN FOR CIVIC SPACE AND ROYAL CITY HERITAGE | APRIL, 1 2014

CIVIC SQUARE PEDESTRIANIZATIONGuelph recently approved the restoration of a roundabout from the cities original plan, while this proposal offers a fresh look to the square. To draw pedestrians in, the paving patterns branch out with red brick squares, with complimentary street pavers to slow vehicular traffic. The site has triumphant arches, a water feature with places to entertain and dine.

PEDESTRIANIZATIONGore Park’s new Pedestrian Promenade allows for greater usage of a large space in the Heart of Downtown Hamilton. This proposal offers a new look for surrounding streets, an alleyway, and three blocks of Urban Space. One block emphasizes on dining, recreation, and education of 18 surrounding waterfalls. The center block acts as a place for festivals, and the Remembrance Day Celebrations, while the final block is a gateway between the park and the Royal Connaught Residences.
