Make their first impression the last place they look! Whether moving across country or across town, people who are relocating want to make a fresh start. According to Moving Targets, a direct marketing firm, new residents spend an average of $7,100 on goods and services directly attributable to their relocations.
Furthermore, during the first 24 months after a move, an estimated 80% of movers will likely try new products and services from local suppliers and during that time, new residents spend four to six times as much as non-movers on everything from air conditioners to takeout meals. And that makes it very important that you get your name in front of prospective customers first! Extend a warm welcome to relocated businesses and individuals new to Hampton Roads with an ad in the region’s oldest running newcomer’s magazine, “This is Hampton Roads.” Chances are, you’ll gain a new, loyal customer!

The Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce has proven efficacy in affecting change that is positive for local business. Through its full-time advocacy efforts the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce helped win the fight for an additional $880 million into Virginia’s transportation system. The Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce also supported the Medicaid reform/expansion and opposed the measures that would eliminate or change the current system that requires local school divisions to receive a waiver before opening prior to the Labor Day Holiday.

2014/2015 Military Partners
Long recognizing the undeniable impact defense spending and the U.S. military’s presence locally have on the local economy, the Chamber established several military recognition events, some dating back more than half a century, to give the business community an opportunity to express their appreciation to those who serve this country and have put Hampton Roads on the map.
But it’s more than defense spending and economic impact, it’s about the opportunity for the business community, as a whole, to celebrate and honor the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to preserve our liberty.

Small Business Development Center (SBDC)
Founded in 1990, the SBDC is the first economic entity that addressed the needs of the entire Hampton Roads region. Its goal is to provide top-flight business advice and training to both existing small business owners as well as those individuals who are considering starting their own small business. Since its inception, the Center has provided assistance to more than 10, 000 clients and enabled them to achieve more than $208 million in economic impact and create to save more than 3,000 jobs.
