This book does not claim to be a complete treatise, but consists essentially of a survey of modern work on enzymes. It is mainly concerned with the kinetics of enzyme reactions and gives a full account of the effects of enzyme and substrate concentrations, hydrogen ion concentrations, and the· mathe- matical theory of the course of reactions catalysed by enzymes. Later chapters deal with recentwork on specificity and the purification of enzymes. A full bibliography is appended. The biologist and the physical chemist will both be grateful to the author for his able review of current work and ideas in this important field. Handbook for Veterinary Surgeons. By Fred Bullock, LL.D., Barrister-at-Law. Second Edition. London: 1930. Bailliere, Tindall and Cox. Price 5s. 4d. post free. This work was first published in 1927, and it is very satisfactory to learn that the demand for it has necessitated the preparation of a second edi- tion. The latter is almost double the size of the first, and the new matter adds greatly to its value. The comprehensive character of the information given in the book may be inferred from the titles of its principal chapters : Administration of the Profession, Rights and Duties, Professional Conduct, Legal Responsibilities and Duties, Post-Graduate Studies, Taxes and Insur- ance, Government Services. The work is mainly designed for recent graduates, and for them it may without exaggeration be said to be indispensable, but it can be most strongly recommended to all members of the profession, whether engaged in ordinary practice or employed in the public service.

This work was first published in 1927, and it is very satisfactory to learn that the demand for it has necessitated the preparation of a second edition. The latter is almost double the size of the first, and the new matter adds greatly to its value. The comprehensive character of the information given in the book may be inferred from the titles of its principal chapters : Administration of the Profession, Rights and Duties, Professional Conduct, Legal Responsibilities and Duties, Post-Graduate Studies, Taxes and Insurance, Government Services.

The work is mainly designed for recent graduates, and for them it may without exaggeration be said to be indispensable, but it can be most strongly recommended to all members of the profession, whether engaged in ordinary practice or employed in the public service.
