Dear Families

Goal Setting Interviews – Thank you for your involvement in the goal setting interviews over the last two days. These are really important for the children to discuss and set their goals for the first half of this year. It also shows that you value what your child is doing here at Concord.

Please return these by next Friday 13th March to go in the draw for a Family Pass to Bowl Line which will be drawn out at assembly. The Teddy Bear Hospital is a session run by Medical students, where we invite children to bring

their teddy bears, or favorite toy, along to be examined by the student ‘Teddy Doctors’. We are

excited to announce this year that we will also have ‘Teddy Dentists’.

This is fun and informal way for children to familiarize themselves with medical procedures such as taking blood pressures, temperature measurements, and

with instruments for looking into their eyes, ears and mouth. This is in the hope it will reduce the fear and anxiety that some children associate with visiting the

doctor and dentist.

We would like to extend a warm invitation to your 5-8 year old students to our Community Day. This will be held on Saturday 23rd May in the Hunter Centre on the corner of Fredrick and Great King Streets, from 11am until 4pm. There will be free face-painting,

sausage sizzle, bouncy castle and more, including anatomy and physiology

models for the kids to explore.

This is a wonderful learning opportunity for both the children and the Medical

students. More information is available at http://tbhdunedin2015.wix.com/tbh2015

Head LiHead Licece Head lice are again in the school, so please check your child’s hair regularly and treat if necessary.

When treating head lice: • Use nit combs 2-3 times a week, with conditioner. • Use chemical products (special shampoos or lotions that you can

buy from a pharmacy) – follow directions as stated on product. • If these chemical treatments do not seem to work STOP using

them, and talk to your Doctor, Public Health Nurse or Pharmacist. • Do not use more than one chemical treatment at the same time. • Do not use kerosene, fly spray or vet products. • It is dangerous and unnecessary to wrap your child’s head with

plastic bags, bathing caps or Gladwrap ® as this might suffocate your child.

• Use any natural product with caution as it may cause toxicity with a lot of use.

Detection Combing Technique • Comb the hair with the ordinary comb to remove any tangles. This

is important as combing tangled hair with a fine-tooth comb hurts. • Apply the conditioner to dry hair. Use enough to thoroughly cover

the scalp and all the hair from roots to tips. • Use the ordinary comb to evenly distribute the conditioner. Divide

the hair into four or more sections using the hair clips. • Comb each section in turn with the fine-tooth comb. Place the teeth

of the comb flat against the scalp and comb the hair from the roots to the tips.

• Wipe the comb on the tissue after each stroke to check for head lice. Adult lice are easier to see than young lice and you may see some eggs. A magnifying glass will help.

• Comb each section twice, cleaning the comb when it becomes clogged.

If you find head lice, continue combing the whole head until all the conditioner is gone and no more head lice appear in the comb. Repeat the conditioner and combing every 2 or 3 days until no head lice are found for 10 days. This may take 3 to 4 weeks.

Conditioner stuns lice for 20 minutes. Once the hair is well covered with conditioner, do not delay in combing the lice out.
