With the presence of structural scaffolding comes its partnership with harnesses. Used specifically on to ensure the safety of humans on high leveled portions of a building in development, harnesses are man’s best friends when they take on the skies. However, there comes a time when a fluke event happens and a person tips over the edge with a harness.

There are four phases namely – the before the fall, the fall arrest, the suspension, and the post-fall rescue.

Before The Fall

In this phase of fall protection, the first main cause is failure in compliance. No matter how secure a harness is, if it is not installed properly, it will fail to serve its purpose. Now, if a worker finds the harness to tight or too comfortable, there is a high chance that he would modify it on his own without consulting their safety officer.

The Fall Arrest Say the worker who fell off had a lengthy lanyard attached to him. As he takes the fall he will now be receiving an impact that depends on the acceleration of how far he is falling. There is no way to predict how his position will be once he reaches the end point because it will depend on the position of the latch where the lanyard it attached.

The Suspension

However, this does not apply to everything. Should the victim fall with his head first and his legs dangling above, he is expected to receive severe trauma. The only time that safety occurs in this case is when the victim falls in the upright position.

The RescueThe response time for rescuers to retrieve the traumatized body is the most life – saving part of the workers fall. As much as possible, the moment he reaches the endpoint, a team should already be on standby and actively predicting where he would land. Any injuries can then be addressed with extra precaution.
