Since 1978 we have had the privilege of hosting thousands of family vacations and we keep finding ways that we can improve our service. Last fall we launched a new website that we have continued to refine and improve. We hope that you enjoy all of the robust tools that it provides you in finding the perfect home for your family retreat, booking the reservation and logging into your online account to manage the details.
We listened to guest feedback and have made improvements to our check-in process as well. Not only will we begin to offer a limited number of early check-ins each week for participating homes starting this spring, but our guests staying in homes that offer Electronic Keyless Entry will be able to bypass the office check-in and check-out process entirely!
For this year’s rental guide we have added to our house maps section a new index of homes, grouped by location, to make it even easier to locate a home for your next vacation.
Our selection of homes remains the finest on the island offering more oceanfront homes than any other company on the island. Choose from a premier oceanfront estate with sweeping ocean vistas or a serene soundfront home with stunning sunset views. Entertaining the group is a pleasure with private swimming pools, poolside Tiki bars, game rooms with pool tables and wet bars and home theaters. Wireless internet access is available in nearly all of our homes and families find that the well-appointed kitchens allow for easy meal preparation and clean-up.

When you’re selecting your rental home, it’s helpful to know what vacation experience you desire. Do you want to watch the ocean’s waves from your deck at an oceanfront home or do you prefer a soundside home closer to the Pamlico playgound? Here is a guide to help you understand the differences between the locations we advertise.
Oceanfront to Soundfront and Everything In-Between
Location, Location, Location
Oceanfront: Generally have the best views and beach access. However, ocean views vary from home to home. These homes are in high demand, so book early. They rent fast.
Semi-Oceanfront: Located just one lot from the ocean, all offer ocean views. Some even have better views than some oceanfront properties. Distance to the beach and view vary from home to home.
Oceanview: All have a view of the ocean. They vary in size from large to small to suit most groups. Distance to the beach and views vary from home to home, but can offer an affordable vacation option to Oceanfront.
Oceanside: Located on the oceanside of Highway 12 and generally offer easy beach access, but do not offer views of the ocean. However, they do represent some of our best vacation values.
Soundfront: Generally our best homes for kiteboarding, windsurfing or kayaking on the sound. Sound access varies from home to home. The sunsets from these homes are the best on the island, so reserve early. They rent fast.
Semi-Soundfront: Located just one lot from the sound, offer very good to excellent Pamlico Sound views and are generally close to sound access for watersports or shallow draft boats.
Soundside: Located on the soundside of Highway 12, they can offer good water views and, in some cases, the beach is an easy walk away.
Canalfront: Waterfront homes located on canals leading to the sound. Sound access for windsports and boating varies, but is excellent in some cases.

The “tri-villages” as they are often called, offer exceptional sound access for kiteboarding and windsurfing, proximity to Oregon Inlet Fishing Center (just 15 minutes to the north) and the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge for bird watchers, a full-service fishing pier and popular fishing and surfing spots. These three northernmost Hatteras Island villages are closest to Outer Banks attractions in Nags Head, Manteo and Kill Devil Hills.

Vacationers love staying in Avon because of its beautiful, expansive beaches, full-service fishing pier, exceptional watersports access and large selection of restaurants, shopping and recreation. The historic Kinnakeet area is home to a picturesque fishing harbor. Kiteboarders and windsurfers especially appreciate its proximity to the famous Haul Over area (AKA Canadian Hole) and neighboring Kite Point.

Buxton is a serene village with shopping, restaurants, attractions, a lifeguarded beach and scenic coastal charm. Its exceptional fishing beach “Cape Point” attracts anglers from around the U.S. It’s also home to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, the country’s most recognized lighthouse. The fishing and surfing near the lighthouse are some of the best on the East Coast. There is also a maritime forest for day hikes.

Home to miles of wide beaches, horseback riding on the beach and plenty of great fishing areas, Frisco is an ideal retreat for fishermen and all-around beach lovers whose dream vacation is filled with beautiful shoreline and plenty of peace and quiet. Flightseeing tours take off from Billy Mitchell Airstrip, Hatteras Island’s only airstrip. You will find art galleries and tackle shops, seafood restaurants and plenty of island charm.

With the Gulf Stream just 12-15 miles away, Hatteras Village is known for some of the best charter fishing on the North Carolina coast. This small village has more marinas than anywhere else on the Outer Banks. Hatteras Village also has an array of galleries, shops and restaurants. Take a self-guided walking or bicycle tour through the village and you’ll be greeted by beautiful historic homes and lavish seasonal gardens. Visitors can also board the free ferry to neighboring Ocracoke Island for a lovely day trip.

Sea: To access Hatteras Island by ferry you have the choice of two ferries from mainland North
