PARTS & SERVICEWe now ask customers who wish to place parts orders or arrange a service/repair call out, to contact their local

depot using the telephone numbers listed below.

We are restricting access to our parts showrooms, offices and workshops. Please call us with your parts requirements and we will prepare your order for collection. Let us know when you are on site by calling the main

depot number and we will bring your order out to you or let you know where the parts can be collected from.

In addition, we can deliver parts to you, which will help customers who are unable to collect from our depots. Parts can be left in a pre-agreed safe location. We will notify you by text message when we have made the

delivery and take a photo of the goods to record the time and location.

Please call the service manager at your local depot to arrange service or repair call out. Our service engineers will observe strict hygiene and social distancing protocols and we ask our customers to assist in keeping our

team safe.

Impressed by their work ethics and manufacturing facilities following a tour of their factory Pottinger grassland equipment has now become an integral part of farm manager Richard Hughes’s machinery fleet and silage making routine at Birdsall Estates since last year.

Birdsall Estates is an impressive 7000-acre farming enterprise situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds. Alongside the estate’s arable cropping, grass is also grown as a break crop. A further 1500 acres are also down to permanent grassland that provides silage for 1300 suckler cows plus followers with up to 3000 cattle housed on the estate at any one time.

The man responsible for looking after the farming operation along with his dedicated team is Farm Manager Richard Hughes who has worked on

the estate in various roles for the past thirty years, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather.

Identifying tasks on the farm that can be made more efficient through shrewd machinery purchases is a key part of Richard’s role and last year following a visit to the Pottinger factory he decided to streamline the estate’s silage making operations.

“When the estate still had a dairy herd twenty years ago, we were clamping silage using a trailed forager,” says Richard.

“When the dairy herd was phased out, we moved to a mowing, baling and wrapping system which worked well but I felt we could improve the routine further.”

“Given our sizable arable acreage it’s essential we’re completing our two cuts of silage between May and July so we can commence our cereal

harvest in a timely stress free manner,” he explains.

To maximise the use of the estate’s largest and most powerful tractor that spends most of its time completing arable work Richard invested in a set of Pottinger Novacat X8 ED triple mowers to make use of the tractor’s reverse drive function.

“I ordered them through The Russell Group in late 2018 and they were set up and ready to go when we commenced silage making in 2019,” says Richard.

“So far they’ve proved to be very reliable, easy to adjust and maintain, and they certainly maximise the manoeuvrability of such a large tractor.”

“We can square off field corners much more efficiently and we also have the spreading kit fitted to improve wilting timeliness.”

The Novacat X8 ED features and 8.3m working width and the central mower can also be used with the tractor’s front linkage too. Richard has also invested in a high performance Pottinger TOP 842C twin rotor rake featuring

hydraulically controlled working widths between 7.7 and 8.4 metres.

“We’ve also a eight rotor Pottinger tedder on the way from Russells and a McHale Fusion to speed up baling and wrapping this year too,” says Richard.

“Their service and level of professionalism has been fantastic and I look forward to continuing an excellent working relationship with them.”

The Russell Group are pleased to announce they’ve added the equipment of Austrian cultivation and precision seeding unit manufacturer Einbock to their impressive machinery portfolio and inventory.

Einbock were founded back in 1934 when Leopold Einbock began manufacturing a range of cultivators from his blacksmith’s shop in Dorf an der Pram in Austria. As his business expanded, he was joined by his son, Leopold II in 1949. The company first began exporting its cultivation equipment in 1978 whilst a year later Einbock introduced it’s highly regarded Chopstar line of inter row cultivators.

During the late eighties Einbock began developing a range of tined weeders which would form the basis of its well-known Aerostar line of weeders. In 1994 the company moved into grassland care with a range of harrows matched to

pneumatic seeding units they christened the Pneumaticstar line.

From the late nineties Einbock experienced a significant surge in growth with the expansion of their manufacturing facilities and office space. In 2016 and 2017 they developed their first sister companies away from Austria in both France and the USA. Export now accounts for 80% of their business.

In Austria Einbock boasts 40,000m2 of manufacturing and office space allied to the employment of 200 staff. The factory is fully sustainable being powered by wood chip and photovoltaics with a strict recycling policy in place.

At present Einbock produces a whole host of specialist inter row hoes, weeding systems and row-crop cultivators. The company also builds an extensive range of both primary and secondary hydraulic combination cultivators up to 7.8 metres in working width.

Other notable products include a range of mechanical and pneumatic seed boxes capable of being retro fitted onto any of Einbock’s front and rear mounted cultivators and inter row equipment.

A key product The Russell Group are keen to promote are Einbock’s range of hydraulic folding grassland harrows designed for weeding, levelling, and aerating. Without the seed box these harrows are known as the Grass Manager and Grass Manager Pro. They’re designed for use on tractors featuring both category one, two, and three linkages with fifteen models represented across both ranges from 1.5metre to 12 metre working widths.

Specified with four bearing mounted support wheels and up to eight sections featuring a maximum 480 tines the lighter weight Grass Manager harrows are designed for tractors with up to 90hp. The heavier duty Grass Manager Pro range feature six support wheels

and are designed for use with tractors up to 170hp.

All of the harrows are constructed of strengthened steel tubing and reinforced gusset plates. Adding a seeding unit to the harrows turns them into the PneumaticStar for reseeding grass with four models available from the basic MD to the Pro-STI that feature’s Einbock’s Speedtronic control unit, and parallel guided hydraulic level control system.

Having been impressed with the build quality and reliability of their previous Pottinger TOP 762C twin rotor rake, Richmondshire farmers and contractors Robert and Jack Stones upgraded to a new version with additional bogey wheels last year supplied by The Russell Group at Leyburn.

Alongside running their 250-acre livestock farming enterprise that features 60 suckler cows and 350 sheep, father and son team Robert and Jack Stones specialise in silage making across Richmondshire and North Yorkshire.

The silage services they offer are

centred around a pair of forage wagons with a third brought in at peak time. They also carry out snow ploughing around the Swaledale region and also look after 12,000 acres of moorland.

Pottinger grassland equipment has become an integral part of the Stones’ business since they invested in a brand-new twin rotor rake three seasons previously.

“I was working for another local machinery dealer who had the Pottinger franchise at the time,” explains Jack.

“The Pottinger grass kit appeared to

be well put together and thought out so we decided to purchase a TOP 762C rake for our own business.”

“Given the remote, steep, and often awkward terrain we’re expected to make quality silage from, we have to be certain that the equipment we’re investing in is tough enough for the job,” says Robert.

The Stones’ first Pottinger rake achieved an impeccable reliability record with only a couple of tines needing replacing in three seasons work. It persuaded them to invest in a new six rotor Pottinger tedder as well. That along with a visit to the Pottinger factory to witness their manufacturing processes first hand convinced Robert and Jack to maintain their brand loyalty and replace their existing rake with a new mid-range Pottinger TOP 762C from The Russell Group last year.

“We were hugely impressed with the

attention to detail, manufacturing processes and staff professionalism during our tour of the factory, which gave us the confidence and reassurance to invest in the new rake through Russells,” says Robert.

Key features specified by the Stones’ on their new TOP 762C rake included agricultural profile BKT 15/55-17 tyres for additional stability on steep ground, whilst a set of adjustable bogey wheels mounted to the front of the rotors help keep them level and avoid digging into uneven terrain.

The TOP 762C also features a steered chassis, and an Ackermann style rear wheel steering system giving an impressive 73 degrees of steering angle. The hydraulic adjustable rotors are capable of working between 6.75m and 7.5m and are fitted with 13 arms each.

“In the short time we’ve used it it’s been a superb rake, bomb proof and easy to maintain.”

“The additional bogey wheels we requested help us to make excellent swaths on some really tough terrain,” says Robert.

When 4th Generation dairy farmer Sean Nicholson decided he wanted to move away from contractors to complete his silage making he turned to The Russell Group and POTTINGER for the solution. Sean explains to us why he invested in a POTTINGER EUROPROFI 5010L Combiline forage wagon.

After crunching the numbers on his family’s 300-acre farm that supports 200 dairy cows in the Nidderdale region of North Yorkshire, Sean Nicholson came to the conclusion it would be far more beneficial to complete his own silage making and move away from the reliance on contractors.

“Whilst there was nothing wrong with the work the contractors were completing for us, I was keen to take control of our fuel costs, and make silage when it most suited us rather

than all at once,” Sean explains.

“I wanted to establish a system where we were lifting 30 to 40 acres of silage in a day on our own terms, when the grass was ready to maximise the sugar levels.”

“The goal was then to make silage every four to five weeks from our first cut which tied in with our policy to graze between February and November.”

“I also wanted a longer chop length and the only way to achieve this successfully using our own kit was to invest in a forage wagon,” says Sean.

The Nicholsons have bought the vast majority of their equipment through The Russell Group at Boroughbridge for the last five years, building an excellent working relationship with them in the process.

Three seasons ago the Nicholsons invested in a three metre POTTINGER NOVACAT 302ED mower and HIT 6.80 tedder. Having been impressed with the build quality, they decided to remain loyal to the brand and purchase a 50m3 capacity EUROPROFI 5010L Combiline forage wagon.

“We opted for the mid-range EUROPROFI 5010L forage wagon as it was the largest model we could use successfully behind our New Holland T6.165 tractor,” explains Sean.

The 7.1 tonne 5010L sits in the middle of the EUROPROFI range and features a tandem sprung axle chassis with a steerable rear axle for excellent manoeuvrability. Sean’s example is shod on low profile Nokian Country King 710/35 R22.5 tyres which he says deliver fantastic comfort and stability.

“We’ve lifted around 350 acres with it so far and have been impressed with its reliability and performance thanks to the robust pick-up and gearbox driven rotor, along with the automatic

loading system” says Sean.

“We’ve invested in a proper block grinder to maintain the knives and we’re also in the process of improving our clamping system with a press to maximise the efficiency of the forage wagon further.”

“If everything continues to go well, we may consider trading up to a larger tractor and higher capacity wagon in the future.”
