Luminus has triumphed again - this time in the prestigious Sustainable Communities Awards, beating more than 200 entries across the country. Luminus received the award for positive action on Oxmoor, a deprived area. Working in partnership with the district council and police, Luminus has made Oxmoor a safer and cleaner place, providing essential services for residents and is now looking to the future to build upon this success. Judges from local government and health services said the quality of entries was higher than in any previous year. They said, “Luminus had good engagement with partners, showing excellent consultation planning with strong links to their surrounding street scenes and using modern methods of construction with regard to energy and recycling. Following their new design, Luminus saw evidence of a reduction in anti-social behaviour.” Luminus Group Chief Executive, Chan Abraham said, “These prestigious awards celebrate the contribution organisations make within their communities. Given that publicly- funded services, like the NHS and councils, are the main players, the impact Luminus has had is particularly notable as the only independent housing company to achieve an award. “It marks the continuation of a great year for Luminus, following our success as an “extraordinary” three star Best Company 2009. This award focuses on issues that are priorities for 21 st century Britain - reducing anti-social behaviour, protecting the environment and creating positive community spirit in neighbourhoods. In 2009, our year of Transformed Lives and Excellent Outcomes, this award is a powerful encouragement to all organisations to strive to make a positive impact for good. We hope it inspires others and will serve to share the benefits of our experience more widely.” ISSUE 8 MAY 2009 Luminus praised for building Sustainable Communities! Luminus is a finalist for Procurement Team of the Year and Tenant Empowerment Team of the Year, beating strong competition to get to the finals.

The prestigious event’s winners will be revealed at a glittering awards ceremony at London’s Hilton Hotel on 10 June.

Inside Housing’s events director Ted Stevens said:

“All the finalists have done brilliantly in getting this far. Well done to Luminus for getting shortlisted. The competition was really fierce with well over 50 entries in some categories.”

Luminus Group Chief Executive, Chan Abraham, said, “The Luminus theme for 2009 is Transformed Lives and Excellent Outcomes and our first four months have strongly validated this. Examples include ranking 12th in the Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to work for and gaining three stars ‘extraordinary’ in Best Companies 2009. Two shortlistings in the Housing Heroes Awards adds to this success. At Luminus, we believe all our people are heroes and we are proud that our Tenant Involvement and Procurement teams have been recognised as heroes by reaching the final of these prestigious awards.”

Luminus has been shortlisted from more than 300 entries in two categories of the UK’s Housing Heroes Awards, that spotlight people and teams doing great work in the housing sector.
