FICCI, New Delhi11:45 am – 1:00 pm

A recent serial on TV has reopened a discussion on corruption in the practice of medicine. Is the practice of medicine deteriorating in its ethics? Is it because of greater ‘private’ healthcare or is this across the spectrum of healthcare as it is amongst other professions? Is this an Indian phenomenon - a country high up on the “corruption index”.

The “hard talk” will focus on this very vital issue and aim to understand reality and hopefully evolve an advisory to move the industry in the correct direction…

Universal Healthcare: Dream or Reality?

The burning need of the hour is improving the quality of healthcare in the country where 60% of all healthcare expenditure is borne out-of-pocket and public healthcare in rural provision remain close to non-existent. This requirement is very different in the various parts of our country. Whereas the value of basic health needs still is important in parts of rural India, the hood of non- communicable diseases is raising its head in urban and rural India. The diabetic epidemic is one example. How do we tackle such a complex issue? Is there a solution or are we dreaming?
