One Thousand Thank Yousby Teresa Bell Kindred from NanaHood.com

If I had one thousand “thank yous”I know just what I’d do.I’d box them up with hugs and kissesAnd send them straight to you. There is no way I can repay youfor all the love and support you gave to me.You were my biggest fan, my most loving criticMy lighthouse when I was lost on the stormy sea.I miss your love, your laughterYour kind heart and gentle touch.I miss you every day, so very, very muchBut I think I miss you most in MayWhen flowers bloom and mothers are honoredEvery blossom, every Hallmark card reminds meTo give thanks to God aboveFor the years we shared togetherAnd the power of a mother’s love.

Today begins my new working life. Finally serene. I have discovered that there is a time for everything, a time for understanding, a time to do ”cleaning,” a moment to feel free. This is my time!

Thanks to my FAMILY that helped me and pushed me in the right direction. And in this new and FREE DAY, here are Fiammetta's and my OUTFITs for the Baptism of our Tommaso. A white and blue outfit. A romantic outfit. An outfit suitable for all ceremonies. What do you think? HAVE A SPECIAL DAY. Mine will be really special!! - Fiammetta

Find Clothes That Make You Feel FabulousEach day when you leave the house how do you want to FEEL? By tapping into the way you want to feel you can then choose clothing that achieves the look you desire but ultimately makes you feel great. Choose your words and narrow them down to the three that are most important to you. Once you've got your words take them to your closet and ask yourself if your clothes make you feel like the words, ie. Chic, Professional, Sophisticated. Here is a personal example. One of my words, is unique. One way I use my wardrobe to make me feel unique is with shoes, in particular, animal print shoes! No matter what the season I've got a shoe that makes me feel unique. In order to love the way you look you don't have to be born a style genius. Just figure out how you want to feel.

Fort Zachary Taylor cannon.

The Artis-Naples recently announced an exciting new partnership for local 3rd-5th grade students to “link up” with Carnegie Hall and the Naples Philharmonic. This partnership unites the classroom with the concert hall and invites students to learn about the orchestra by becoming a part of it themselves. Students learned to play an instrument in their classrooms and then performed with the Naples Philharmonic.

My son Jake joined his Chorus class and attended the event. Luckily I was invited and got to experience the beautiful interaction between the musicians and children. My favorite songs were Symphony No. 4, and Fortuna. It always amazes me that music from the 1800s can still inspire and produce such timeless beauty.

Rhythm, passion, intensity and drive are all a part of music. - Naples Philharmonic Conductor

During the song, Fortuna, the large screen showed the words for the children to sing along with the Coordinator. The Coordinator did it all: he announced, sang, played a musical instrument, and organized the event. The combination of children singing, the orchestra playing, and his amazing voice was magical.

I'm glad I was able to be a part of this event and I look forward to when my daughter is in third grade so she can experience the fun and entertainment. Before we left, Ms. Shore gathered the Estates Elementary kids and had them stand for a photo. It just so happened that the conducter and the coordinator jumped in and joined the priceless photo!

and gives it rest, heals the heart and makes it whole,

Q: How can I complete my goals?

A: Enjoy the JourneyIf you work really hard to achieve your goals but don't enjoy the journey, you're delaying the essence of life. Committing to your goals doesn't mean you slave away at work you dislike, celebrating only the destination. A real abiding commitment means that you love what you do each day. You are at least as passionate about the path as you are about the results. If you love the path you're on, your passion motivates you to keep taking the next step.

But passion alone isn't enough. Passion requires focused direction, and that direction must come from three other areas: your purpose, your talents, and your needs.

First, purpose and passion go hand in hand. If you don't know your life purpose, your passion won't be guided by conscience. Many criminals go this route -- they are very passionate about certain actions, but those actions aren't motivated by a higher purpose.

When your passion and purpose point in the same direction, it means you fall in love with the path of service. You love what you do, and it also contributes positively to the world. This creates a synergy, which increases your passion manifold. This is a natural consequence of doing something you love to do that you know is making a difference.

Action: Dream your life, then live your dream!

Memorial Day’s almost here---time to look for recipes to fill the table for that festive family meal. I’ve been looking for an easy and delicious baked beans recipe and finally found this one from Taste of Home online. It had good reviews, will be a perfect side dish, and is so quick to prepare. I guess you’d call this “practically homemade” because it uses canned beans, but since I was looking for something fast, this recipe fits the bill! You can substitute whichever beans you like and even cook it in a crockpot rather than in the oven. Have a wonderful Memorial Day, and please remember our Vets.

Ingredients1 pound ground turkey or beef (you could also use ground pork or other meat)2 large onions, chopped¾ pound sliced bacon, cooked and crumbled4-15 ounce cans pork and beans1-18 ounce bottle honey barbeque sauce1-16 ounce can kidney beans, rinsed and drained1-15-1/4 ounce can lima beans, rinsed and drained1-15 ounce can black beans, rinsed and drained½ cup packed light brown sugar3 tablespoons cider vinegar1 tablespoon Liquid Smoke, optional1 teaspoon salt½ teaspoon pepper

Directions:Cook beef and onions in a large skillet over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Transfer to a 5-quart Dutch oven. Stir in remaining ingredients.

Cover and bake at 350 degrees for one hour or until heated through. Makes 18 servings.

A month or so ago, my daughter-in-law sent me an invite to join her in Nexercizing. “What is Nexercize?”you may ask. It’s an Apple app that encourages you to exercise at least 15 minutes each day---any kind of exercise. The Nexercise mission is to motivate people to get in some exercise every day. They want you to “…have fun while getting healthy!” There’s a long list of exercises to choose from---aerobics, active housework, badminton, calisthenics, car washing, hula hoop, kick boxing, manual labor, moving stuff, playing with pets & kids, running, skateboarding, video games with motion, walking, weight lifting, and more. Then there are also loads of popular programs such as Beachbody, ChaLean Extreme, Fittpros, Hip Hop Abs, Insanity, Les Mills---the list goes on. Just register, choose the type of activity you want to log time on and go for it!

The beauty of this program is you are reminded and encouraged to exercise via your email each day and you can track your daily, weekly, and monthly activity; as well as compare your level of exercise with others in a group you choose or are assigned to. For me, it’s highly motivating. Walking to the mailbox or in the grocery store, active housework, and yard work are all things I do often and are easy to log. I also walk at the nearby wildlife sanctuary so that walking gets logged. It all adds up, in fact I’ve already walked 15 miles this month! Nexercise motivates me to do more on a regular basis.

Another form of encouragement is Nexercise awards “medals” for various activity times and levels, points to redeem from various vendors, etc. The most motivating factor for me with Nexercise is the reminders to do my 15 minutes per day---even if I do a little at a time, Nexercise lets me know how much more I need to do to complete my minimum time. I don’t know about you, but this is encouraging to me. In fact, I am on my way to the living room to do some squats, lift a few weights, and do a few calisthenics to round out my day’s Nexercise minutes!!!

Still not convinced? Here’s some positive feedback from well known publications:

Workout or a video game? Now you don’t have to choose. With the Nexercise app, your workout is transformed into a fun game. – Shape Magazine

Of the apps that I tried, Nexercise is the closest to what I would call a true Fitness App For Lazy People. It was made for the express purpose of making exercising more fun, like a game. – Huffington Post

You don’t have to be a marathon runner or weightlifting pro to be the champion of this fitness match. As long as you’re physically active for at least 15 minutes, you’re a winner in this game. – Washingtonian

Congratulations to Aunt Kerri and Uncle Erin for finishing the Wings for Life World Run that they did in honor of Austin Ervin!

More than 3 million people are affected by spinal cord injury.

This number is increasing by 130,000 patients every year as a result of traffic accidents, awkward falls, sporting injuries or even a gap-year seaside tragedy.

The good news is that scientists agree: Injured neurons are able to regenerate so paraplegia will be cured one day.

The ultimate goal of Wings for Life is to make spinal cord injury curable.

Mount St. Helens, located in the Cascade Range 96 miles south of Seattle, Washington and 50 miles west of Portland, Oregon; has been an active stratovolcano for thousands of years. Native lore talks about the violent displays and damage of the volcano through the years in human terms, including stories like fights between two warriors over an Indian maiden leading to flattening of trees and extensive damage. May 18, 2014 marked the 34th anniversary of the devastating eruption of Mt. St. Helens---the most disastrous volcanic explosion in U.S. history. In all 57 people died, 250 houses, 15 miles of railways, 185 miles of highway, and 47 bridges were destroyed. A 5.1 earthquake started the eruption and the summit went from 9,677 feet to 8, 365 feet, leaving a 1 mile crater in its place. The eruption started a massive flow of rock fragments and gases spread over land quickly flattened trees, vegetation, and everything in its path for 230 square miles. The flow travelled for miles down the Toutle and Cowlitz Rivers, moving 17 miles of material south into the Columbia River. For more than 9 hours, an ash plume released over 1.5 million metric tons of sulfur dioxide was released into the atmosphere, reaching 12 to 16 miles above sea level. Moving at 60 miles an hour, the ash reached Idaho within 4 hours and was found as far north as Edmonton in Alberta, Canada! Volcanic activity and earthquakes continued from Mt. St. Helens until 2008, during which time people always worried if a catastrophic eruption would happen again. Of course, history tells us it will, we just don’t know when.

Mount St. Helens - May 19, 1982

Mount St. Helens - May 17, 1980

The Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument was created by President Ronald Reagan and the U.S.Congress, setting aside 110,000 acres around the mountain in the Gifford Pinhchot National Forest. Since the eruption, scientist are continually studying the volcano and surrounding area. Vegetation and wildlife have returned and Weyerhaeuser maintains an extensive tree farm in the area---trees are harvested and replanted, leaving the area in a constant state of vegetation. In certain areas nearest the mountain, you can still see where the trees were flattened and rocks strewn. It is an eerie and sobering sight, but life is returning and with it people are coming to visit by the thousands to camp, fish, hunt, hike, and learn about the history of Mt. St. Helens and the surrounding area.

On a visit with my sister in the Seattle, Washington area last May, we took a road trip to Mt. St. Helens National Volcanic Monument. We had memories still fresh in our minds of the “big one” that occurred there May 18, 1980, especially since we had relatives in the Seattle area during that time. It was a beautiful, blue-sky day and we could see how much life had been restored since that terrible day in 1980. Close to the mountain we could see how the trees had been uprooted and strewn about, lava had been deposited, and most impressive of all, the top of the mountain had been blown away. We went through the Johnson Ridge Observatory, closest visitor center to the mountain, and saw maps, films, and extensive information about the volcano and the eruption. Walking on the surrounding trails near sunset was a magical experience. As the sun set on our way out of the park we saw further signs of life returning to the area: several deer grazed nearby.

There are four visitor, learning, and observation centers in the park---each with their own viewpoints of the area. Extensive trails, roads, bridges, and campgrounds move people throughout the park. And programs from learning about volcanoes and the environment to purely recreational are available. Learn more about what Mt. St. Helens National Volcanic Monument has to offer at http://www.fs.usda.gov/mountsthelens.

May Appsby Nicole Flothe

With graduation happening in a lot of households around the country I found some great apps! The first app, Obaby, can be used to add graphics and words onto your photos quickly and share with your loved ones. Voice Memos comes standard with iPhones and I love to record short clips during music events or ceremonies. Live Cams will be useful to explore places around the world that would be fun to visit someday. I added a new merchant service provider, Intuit has a phone app to receive payments easily. Epicurious is a recipe and shopping list app, perfect for the upcoming summertime parties. Brit & Co. has so many fun creative ideas and lifestyle tips. Print Studio will be helpful in actually getting the photos off my phone and into cards or photo albums. Lastly, Klout has updated their service and now lists great content I can post to my social media sites and Newstand is perfect to enjoy your favorite magazine!

Staples allows you to trade-in your items for store credit and they offer an online service letting you ship to them free of charge. If you like the idea of just sending your item (most times pre-paid by purchaser) and not having to head to a store, check Online sites including ASDA, Usell, and Gazelle that will give you an estimate, have you send them your item, then send you a check. Most times using these services will save you more money than going to the service provider locations but you may also want to check on what type of trade in program your preferred service provider is currently offering. You may also want to list your item for sale on popular sites like eBay, Amazon, or Craigslist. Happy trading and be sure to download our Free "Into Tomorrow" App on your new device.

I was called by my son Nathan's school to let us know that he was selected to receive the Optimist award. They said we'd be getting a call about the award ceremony and it was a great honor. I'd never heard of the Optimist Club of Naples and was pleasantly surprised that he was chosen. The ceremony was held at the School District Headquarters and they explained that all the teachers from each school have to agree on one student per grade to get this award.
