September 25, 2019 Dear St. William the Abbot Families, It has been a very busy, yet interesting, week! Yesterday, as many of you may know, our students were visited by Sr. Magdalena and Sr. Renee Noel from the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Sr. Magdalena and Sr. Renee Noel were accompanied by Fr. Sean Magaldi, DRVC Vocations Director. In case you didn’t know this part, both Sisters were dressed in full habit! It was great seeing the reaction of our students as they first laid eyes on our guests. Sr. Magdalena and Sr. Renee Noel were great sports, as they made their way to each classroom in grades N- 4, as well as speaking with grades 5-8 as a whole group. They sang with our Kindergarteners, played with Legos in Nursery, and fielded various questions from our students. They also spoke about vocations and shared their own personal stories of hearing God’s voice, leading them to religious life. It was a happy and very worthwhile visit! Today, we shifted gears, and hosted a Civil War presentation for grades 4-8. Civil War reenactors (including Mrs. Frank’s son, Greg) spoke with our students about the life of a Civil War soldier. They discussed the types of uniforms soldiers wore, the weapons they used, and the food they ate on a daily basis. The highlight of the presentation was, of course, the simulation of the firing of rifles. Not sure what our neighbors thought, but the kids loved it! Thanks to Mrs. Bradley for arranging this special presentation. I am in the process of putting a Faith Formation program together for our parents. I will be sending a survey next week, via email, to gauge interest. Tentatively, we are looking at a 40 minute class, once a month, with Fr. Joe or Fr. James. The class would be held during the school day following lunch, so it would be perfect for our lunch volunteers. More information to follow next week. Lastly, I would like to thank the many parents who took the time to contact me in support of last week’s letter regarding the use of social media. It appears that many of us are of a similar mindset. It’s good to know that we are a community of upstanders and not bystanders when it comes to the use of social media and its effect on our school community. Thank you for your support! Have a great week, Mrs. Bricker

Lunch Volunteer Updates

Hello and welcome back to the new school year,

We have made some slight changes to lunch duty this year. The two of us will be in the cafeteria each day to

ensure that everyone has what they need for a successful lunch.

Please take note of the changes to procedures listed below:

• No one is allowed in the distribution room including students.

• When you are ready for ice cream please bring the bin and iPad to the window so that we can fulfill the

ice cream order.

• If you have extra food because a student is absent please return it to us.

• If you have a student without food please send them directly to us.

• Please make sure only volunteers are distributing food, NOT STUDENTS. If you need assistance,

please reach out to a teacher on duty. This will ensure that everyone receives what they ordered. This

is especially important as we only have the exact quantities that are ordered each day through Boonli,

we do not order extra food.

• Please note that no volunteer is guaranteed to be assigned to their student’s grade. If there are

multiple parents for one grade and none for another you will be assigned to cover that class.

• Lunch duty is a weekly, yearlong commitment. Drop ins are not permitted. If you are unable to

volunteer on your assigned day, you are expected to find a substitute. The substitute does not have to

be someone who regularly does lunch duty as long as they are virtus trained.

Please review the volunteer lunch schedule for your grade. We are still in need of volunteers for some days. If

you are willing and able to help, please contact Diana Impemba at [email protected].

Thank you for all your help, please let us know if you have any questions.
