ART ON THE BOX #1 2017 “Historic Opera House & Princess Theater”VINYL WRAPARTWALK ST. JAMES COMMITTEE This artistic wrap showcases historic photos of the Princess Theater and the Grand Opera House. Both buildings are in view while standing next to this box, which provides a visual comparison of the past and present. The Princess Theater still operates as a one-room cinema today, while the Grand Opera House building houses retail on the main level.

SUMMER STUDIES 2017BRONZEFRIENDS OF THE LIBRARYThis timeless and adorable bronze statue features three children sitting on a bench. The children are laughing and reading books. “I do believe something very magical can happen when you read a good book” (JK Rowling).

ART ON THE BOX #2 2016“World of Imagination”PAINTJOHN GILFILLAN ON BEHALF OFTHE ST. JAMES ARTWALK COMMITTEE These three painted utility boxes are situated next to the library in St. James. The painted images illustrate book shelves along with fun fictional characters coming to life. Can you find the small blue fish?

PLAZA DE ST. JAMES 2018INTEGRALLY COLORED CONCRETE, BRONZE INLAYS, LANDSCAPING, LOCAL FIELDSTONES, AND STAINED CEDARSARA K. UDVIG, ST. PAUL, MNFunded through Partnership Art. Special thanks to Prairie Lakes Re-gional Arts Council. Plaza de St. James is a meditative park space that encourages reflection on the paths of migration that our residents took to St. James. Colored concrete paths form the shape of a compass star with community member footprints cast in bronze merging together on the northern point. Field stones gathered from local fields fill the cages of unique gabion benches at the North, South, East and West points of the compass.

MAKE TRACKS TO ST. JAMES 2017STEELGREG LINGBEEK, ST. JAMES, MNArtwalk St. James had this piece designed to reflect the rich railroad history of the St. James community. St. James was founded and created by the expansion of the railroad in the 1800’s and the railroad is still operating today.

GARDEN OF GOOD PEOPLE MURAL 2018ACRYLIC PAINT ON POLY TAB FABRIC WITH PAINTED ALUMINUM PHRASESSARA K. UDVIG, ST. PAUL, MNFunded through Partnership Art. The Garden of Good People Mural proj-ect was designed and created through a heavy community engagement process. The flower images were taken from pictures that children drew at a community event. Saint James residents of all ages came together to paint portions of the Mural on community painting days.

JAMES COMMITTEEThis artistic wrap showcases imagery of the beautiful St. James Lake area, which can be enjoyed at the end of the Artwalk. St. James Lake offers a serene setting for a 4 mile walking and biking trail, fishing T-docks, play-ground equipment, an outdoor pool, water sport rentals, and much more.

OPEN APPLE 2019STEEL, COPPER, KASOTA STONE, BRICKJEREMY HALL, ST. JAMES, MNThe Open Apple sculpture encompasses the 1872 school bell, signifying the continued excellence of Education in St. James. The sculpture itself is made of steel and copper which will weather appropriate colors. The base and granite pillar are made of Kasota stone and granite recovered from a historic 1899 building that burned down in 1996.

HELPING HANDS 2017CONCRETEJASON JASPERSEN, NEW ULM, MNArtwalk St. James had this piece designed to reflect the helpful nature of our community. The artist took the idea and came up with a way to show how we “soar” when we come together. The sculpture of two hands casts a puppet shadow of a soaring bird at certain times of the day and/or year. “Together we soar”.

ART ON THE BOX #4 2017“In Memory of Bill Lammle”VINYL WRAPARTWALK ST. JAMES COMMITTEEThis artistic wrap was created in memory of long-time St. James resi-dent Bill Lammle. Bill purchased St. James (Tri-County) Implement in 1937 and operated it until he retired in 1971. This artwork showcases his legacy combined with our rich agricultural heritage.

VETERAN’S MEMORIAL 2014GRANITEST. JAMES AREA VETERAN’S FOUNDATIONThe St. James Area Veterans Foundation was formed in 2013 with the sole purpose of establishing a permanent memorial. The memorial honors local men and women that served in the military, and gives family and friends a place to gather and reflect.
